I live in Colorado. I don't consume reefer from a bud. Maybe 1-2 times a year I'll have have half a gummie or so. It would be like someone offering me a double IPA instead of Bud Light. It's legal, no one cares, and if u drink a double IPA or take a puff, it's one in the same. Nothing illegal, no harm/no foul.

If SM, JR got pulled over in Colorado with what he had, it would still be against our laws. 21 grams is over 2 ounces. Even in a State that's it's legal you cannot legally purchase more than 1 ounce at a time.

So, let's not kid ourselves saying 'it's legal in more and more places, he shouldnt be in trouble!'

He had a lot of bud in State it's not even legal let alone if was legal, not judging marijuana laws...just saying...that's a lot

21 grams is about 0.74 ounces, right?

Correct. 1 ounce is 28.35 grams.

As for the confused cross pollination of paying athletes that got in this thread:

It is always weird to me that so many good red blooded 'Murican capitalists are socialists around college sports. If a school, and TV networks, and shoe/apparel companies are making $$$$ on what you do on the field, court, or ice you deserve a cut.....and not just your tuition and housing, as much of a cut as you can negotiate.

Not just tuition and housing? What about nutritionists, physical therapists, trainers, free trips around the country/world, tons of free clothes, bowl game swag, free access to state of the art athletic facilities, being worshiped by tens of thousands, the exposure and publicity and training that helps get a player noticed and prepared for possibly becoming a professional, or the name recognition that gives them a leg up on a career in literally anything else around the area they went to college if they don't go pro. Oh, and a few thousand dollars of free spending money each year, as well as a number of other discretionary funds for travel, clothing, etc., as well as a check cut for the difference between the cost of on-campus housing vs whatever is being paid in rent (usually a few more thousands of dollars per year).

How much is four-five years of all of that worth?

To answer your question: whatever people are willing to pay. And in the the case of some schools and athletes, that is "more".

I asked this in a status update, but is this an odd time to ask if we should be paying our students-athletes with funds subsidized by the taxpayer?

So they can buy better weed...?

I mean really, if Stanley paid only $100 for about 3/4 ounce, that's virtually Nebraska ditchweed.

Sorry, I'm making somewhat light of this. I think it's ridiculous that is a felony but I also am very disappointed that so many of these young men fail to see what's more important and keep their priorities straight. If you really want to be a winner, then act like one.

I've been thinking this all day! If he only paid $100 for that weed it is absolutely brick schwag!

I'm a college professor. I assume all of my students are on weed until they prove otherwise. If you don't smoke weed in college what are you doing? Quit wasting your life and make some bad decisions already!!

The meathead athletes where I teach like to get drunk and beat up other students. That sucks bad.....but it is OK cause muscles and testosterone and stuff! Weed, though......bad choices, irresponsible, not a leader.

Actually, I would say the same thing about drinking, fighting, skipping class, etc., for any D1 student athlete. I know it's not reasonable to expect college student athletes to never do anything like this but it is a choice they make. Absolutely I'd prefer that they forego anything that hinders their contributions to the team or their future.

Now if we want to discuss which is less bad, you won't get any argument from me, mj is likely much less problematic than excess alcohol consumption. Unfortunately society has not advanced to that point yet and marijuana is still illegal in most places. I'll stick by my request that they get their priorities straight. There is no I in Team. They can always choose to be just a regular student, with no others depending on them, and do as they wish. I think it is fair to expect a higher standard of behavior from a starting Nebraska football player. If not, don't pursue it.

This is kinda where I'm at with all this. If a man or woman enjoys MJ then find a job where there is no risk of being drug tested and enjoy your life. If a student enjoys whatever and you can do it without affecting someone else (driving, work related performance, etc) you can probably stay under the radar in a state like Nebr. If you want to be a D1 athlete here, people will take notice of your actions. Some won't care while others will, especially journalists. You really aren't a private person as a D1 athlete here.

Wrong. There is a dispensary less than a mile from where I live that sells an ounce for $95 that tests out at 24% THC.

I live in Aurora. I'm guessing you don't know much about our Cannibis laws. Someone with a medical card can buy/possess up to two ounces at a time.

Folks from out of State can buy but are limited to a quarter of an ounce at one time. (Approx 7 grams)

This is why we need to stop dragging our feet and just start using the metric system already!

When did this change?

June 2016

Ahh, must have been part of the law that changed the rules on medical cards. I missed that, thanks. I've been giving incorrect information to tourists.

Well, this will be controversial. But it's great news for the depth chart.

Prosecutors in Florida drop marijuana charge against Husker Stanley Morgan Jr.

Prosecutors in Volusia County, Florida, have dropped a misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge against Husker football player Stanley Morgan Jr.

Friday, a spokeswoman said the prosecutors dropped the charges because of “successful completion of a (drug) treatment program.”

Morgan, a wide receiver, and Husker safety Antonio Reed were arrested in May on suspicion of marijuana possession in Port Orange, Florida.

They were pulled over by Port Orange Police for a traffic stop when an officer smelled an odor of marijuana, according to an affidavit.

The officer searched the car and found two backpacks, both with marijuana in them.

Morgan and Reed both claimed one of the backpacks and the marijuana inside, the affidavit said.

Although Morgan was booked on suspicion of felony marijuana possession of having more than 20 grams, an asssistant state attorney filed a misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession. The state also previously had dropped a misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia charge.

On July 17, prosecutors dropped the marijuana charge against Morgan, who had entered a plea of not guilty.

Reed is awaiting hearings in August on misdemeanor charges of marijuana and paraphernalia possession. Prosecutors said he also qualifies for the drug treatment program.
