Because planes were the only thing in the bill?

Russia would look like a genius of they signed a paper treaty that recognizes territorial gains and removes the teeth of the sanctions.  Keeping UKR out of NATO would be gravy.

No, They would look like murderous thugs that the world let get away.

f#&% anyone than thinks Putin is in any sort of way a “genius”.

No I think the word for the Trumpist would be “savvy “<_<

Trump as always did an exxagerated dysphemism.  A foreign dictator doesn't have to be a genius to know that you strike when your rival is slow and indecisive.  By that a fox is a genius.

btw, the USSR was not shy about sending airplanes to countries like Vietnam and Korea.  https://www.rbth.com/history/332396-how-soviets-fought-against-americans

And we've now reached the "Trump said it but didn't mean it" stage of revisionist history.  Of course that comes once Putin's invasion looks to be anything but "savvy", "genius", and "wonderful" rather the sadistic, murderous, reckless and self-destructive boneheaded clusterf#&% that it's turned out to be.

Not to mention... tons of Russians dead, a tanked economy, a more united NATO, a more united EU, show your a$$ as a paper tiger with nukes and real incentive to never rely on Russian resources ever again. Putin crushed this.

He’s right up there with Stalin and Hitler…

The assault on Mariupol has revealed the full extent of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s determination to take Ukraine as he claims that his country will undergo a natural and necessary "self-purification" of "traitors."

"The Russian people will always be able to distinguish true patriots from scum and traitors and simply spit them out like a fly that accidentally flew into their mouths," Putin said Wednesday. "I am convinced that such a natural and necessary self-purification of society will only strengthen our country, our solidarity, cohesion and readiness to respond to any challenges."

Only one military force in the world can save Putin from utter humiliation now: NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. NATO intervention in Russia’s war on Ukraine could halt that country’s barbarous attacks. But it would mean war between Putin’s regime and the West, and this war would be such a gift to Putin that we should expect that he will soon do everything he can to provoke it.

The U.S. and Europe should resist such provocations.

First and foremost, NATO intervention would help Putin by allowing him to rally his nation and impose even harsher measures to suffocate dissent. Millions of Russians clearly want nothing to do with this fratricidal war, which is one reason Putin has been desperate to keep them from hearing anything about it other than weird Soviet-era cant about neo-Nazis and weapons of mass destruction. If NATO were to become involved, however, Putin’s regime would gladly play footage of Russian men being blasted to pieces by U.S., British, and other allied jets. (Americans who think that a “no-fly zone” would not require attacking land targets, perhaps even in Russia, are deluding themselves.) And even if the Germans were not participants, Russia would almost certainly fabricate videos of German jets attacking Russian military units to play on the obvious and reflexive nationalistic anger that many Russians will feel at such images.

Pretty bold compliment for a professional columnist at The Atlantic.  Why would I trust this guy's take on anything?

Blast from the past year.  Russia was lying about her troup movements and Biden was worried that military aid would be a provocation The White House statement also acknowledged that additional security assistance had been made ready, but would be contingent upon Russia crossing territorial red lines:  https://www.politico.com/news/2021/06/18/white-house-ukraine-military-lethal-weapons-495169
