The Trump Economy

Socialism is great when you are impacted, right? What happened to bootstraps and all that nonsense? Privatize the gains and socialize the loses, the American way.

I feel like all businesses, large and small, are going to need help to get through this.

It's just galling that the most vocal - and the most likely to get immediate aid - are those in Trump's circle: Hospitality, Business and travel.

He's such a transparent self-dealer it's absolutely astounding that anyone could possibly think this is appropriate behavior for someone in his position. But we've got vocal Trump voters right here.

What a time to be alive.

This absolutely needs to be done in a way that is not industry specific.  We need a banking holiday immediately for 3-6 months.  That means all bank loans (mortgage and business loans) are frozen in time till then.  No interest is accrued, no payments are due.  Status of loans do not change.  All money due banks right now remains due.  In 6 months, we reevaluate.  If the threat is gone and some form of normalcy is back, then we pick up where we left off.

Nobody in Washington can sit in a board room picking and choosing what industries are being hit hard.  That is an impossible task.

The fact is - they all eventually get hit -  the supply chains of all different kinds.  For cruise lines you have the local hotels and restaurants near the departure points the same is true of airlines and tourism.  So many ways we are interconnected.  You can't bail out one group and not bail out the small businesses that support that group.

It shows you who Trump values, though. Who gets put at the front of the line? His cronies and himself. Always.

It's amazing there are people out there who think he gives a crap about them beyond needing their vote to stay in power.

Its not just Trump. Its Washington in general. They care about their donors and nobody else.

Some of you guys are being hysterical and letting your hate blind you. Which industries did you think would get hit first (and hence need aid first) when people stop traveling en masse?

I know people who work for Wynn resorts, it's actually a good company to work for and they generally have excellent benefits. But the hotels in Vegas have been ghost towns since last week. These people aren't working because tourism is dead there right now. Any form of tourism is going to feel these effects first, and as others here have pointed out, it will trickle down to other industries. I'm going to go out on a limb and say the auto industry is going to be the next big hit if production is halted because of the virus.
