I totally agree but the lender would still recover the cost from the borrower. There’s really no way around the borrower getting stuck with the cost. From the lender’s point of view, they wouldn’t have that cost if somebody didn’t need to borrow the money.

The bigger issue is that mortgage insurance rarely pays out. It's basically a scam at this point.
