I generally glean my understanding of what's going on by watching the games on Saturday. But with that said I do think that your assessment of how Scott really feels about the plan is probably accurate. And it is again why I've said over and over that I don't think there's any way it was his idea to fire Lubick. Now where I don't necessarily agree is your confidence that Alberts knows what he's doing. I don't know that Alberts has any more of a clue on how to fix our seemingly inexorable clusterf*** disaster than Frost did in the winter of 2018. But we do know this: Successful college football teams have good assistants. We know our defensive assistants have been steering their side of the ball in the right direction, but the offensive staff was not. So, we'll see now if bringing in what is hopefully higher quality staff changes things for the offense. Fair points all. For some reason, I feel more at ease with Trev Alberts' leadership style than with any of the prior Athletic Directors that we have had in the past two decades. Watching Bob Stoops right the ship in Norman yesterday following a turbulent weekend reminded me of what we similarly have in Trev Alberts. Someone steadfastly loyal to the program, its' fans, and its' future. He just fits the role well and I have confidence in his ability, like OU does with Bob Stoops, that better days are ahead (with or without this current coach). Quote Link to comment
Undone
@All Hail Herbie: Hey...I like Alberts in the AD role a lot as well. Some of those comments from me in that post have about as much to do with the purgatory we've been in for almost 20 years now more than anything. Quote Link to comment

And fans tend to think that just looking at one half of the Iowa game translates into us being able to run 10-15 option plays with Smothers through the gamut of the B1G schedule next year. I disagree with this; I don't think his body could take it. And then if he gets hurt, if Haarberg is QB2, he's not the same kind of option guy. Smothers is a very, very serviceable backup QB. But I don't think he helps this offense maximize its potential for scoring points next season. When you look at what UCF did in 2017, Milton was not running as much as Martinez did. And they still ran it 55% of the time. This means their RBs were doing most of the running. This is the direction I think we should go. I also think a lot of this is dependent on what Martinez's status is and where his shoulder is really at. I would take Joe Ganz as a QB every year 1 Quote Link to comment

The comment Frost made about it being a specialist issue and not a special teams issue really irked me. This should be a team effort without finger pointing and he should be eager to take responsibility for it instead of placing blme elsewhere. He absolutely needs a full time STC. 2 Quote Link to comment

Maybe if the punts were due to the punter running for his life or the FG's being missed because of bad holds or almost being blocked I would cut them some slack. But they were just normal plays they routinely botched. If a wr routinely drops pass after pass he usually doesn't play much after that. That's the wr problem not the team. 1 Quote Link to comment

Our kick off returns were 124th and our punt returns were 127th in the country. Our kick return defense was 112th and out punt return defense was 86th in the country. It was a team wide problem. 4 Quote Link to comment
JoseyWales
I really don't know why people are surprised with this crappy special teams performance. Frost has admitted that when they start special teams practice with kickers he goes to the other end of the field. you get what you don't pay attention to. 1 Quote Link to comment

How many head coaches you think stick around and give feedback to the kickers? Don't get me wrong, Frost deserves the blame for special teams because it has been terrible across the board for 4 years. But him not standing by the kickers during practice is not the problem. 1 Quote Link to comment

Gage County
I think the 2 shield blockers line up on the side that the ball is spotted. Also, I'm posting from a Holiday Inn Express. Quote Link to comment

That doesn't mean they didn't line up wrong in the past too. Quote Link to comment
