  1. Do you and your families open a gift on Christmas Eve?

We never used to open gifts on Christmas Day.  We always went to church and came home to gifts and appetizers (grown ups drank :) )  Then on Christmas Day we would have a big dinner without the "hub bub" of presents.

Now, with a wife that sometimes works on Christmas Eve (like tonight), and living in different towns than our parents and siblings, opening gifts are a crap shoot.  We'll probably start tomorrow and finish sometime around New Years Eve..haha!!

We open one on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas Day.

Merry Christmas everyone. Enjoy your families today!

  2. Does anyone know where you can find morrell mushrooms around the Omaha area?  When I was a kid we would go mushroom hunting all the time in the Spring. They are delicious when deep fried and served with homemade onion rings made from Vidallia onions.

I was surprised that J.T. Barrett was in this type of game.  Doesnt strike me as an NFL QB at all.  What little i saw of his time in there, he was a clunker.

      ladyhawke

I agree.  He did NOT have a good game!  There was a running back in there, Lawry (sp?) from Old Dominion!  Wow!  That kid could move!  He reminded me of Roy Helu!!

Me too! Exciting game. Glad Rex made the winning touchdown.

  8. Going through old newspapers I’ve kept relating to the Huskers. Ran across the OWH edition of Bo’s firing and laughed at these headlines:

Shatel: Eichorst Sounds Like a Man With a Plan

Shatel: Don’t Expect AD Eichorst to Flounder as Pederson Did in 03 (No he just set out to destroy our program!)

Chaitlain: Eichorst Proves He Understands NU Tradition, Standards (HUH?!)

I’ll bet both of these reporters cringe at these articles!

      whateveritis1224

For those headlines.  Eichorst was a man with a plan (the plan ended up not working, but it was a plan).  Eichorst did not flounder like Pederson did in '03, he found a guy and hired him.  Again the hiring ended up back firing on him, but he did have a plan.

The Chatelain headline is one that does not work, but was there anything at that point that indicated that firing Bo was a bad move.  IIRC most fans were at the point ready for Bo to move on.

Hindsight is always 20/20 and I don't see a problem with 2 of the 3 headlines (with the Chatelain one coming off the fact that most of Eichorst's firing press conference was spent discussing the fact that while 9 wins was ok, we should be striving for more).

    3. Thanks_Tom RR

      Thanks_Tom RR

If Eichrost had a plan, he would have fired Bo the season before when Bo challenged him to do so. Eichorst did make a quick hire, but it was heavily questioned by all, though everyone agreed Mike was a "nice guy". To say we had to wait until hindsight before we could understand the missteps of those choices is misleading.

Also, it was well documented that the fan base was completely split about firing Bo.

    4. Thanks_Tom RR

      Thanks_Tom RR

Simply, if you had a plan and understood the standard of this program, you don't hire a perennial .500 coach.

  9. Good news for Nebrasketball! Both Palmer and Copeland are foregoing the NBA and will be returning next year! Whoo Hoo!  http://www.wowt.com/content/news/Two-key-Husker-seniors-return-to-basketball-team--483822281.html

It would be great if Watson can get his game/production back. Developing Jordy to get 15-20 solid minutes would go a long way. I’m most excited to see Roby next season and looking forward to what Nana can contribute.

@ladyhawke:  Yeah, that would be a sad time.  My mother lost her father, my grandfather, at a fairly young age.  Some of my earliest memories are visiting a small town Nebraska cemetery each Memorial Day so my mom could put flowers on his grave.  Keep your chin up!

  16. Hey Comfortably Numb, we were just re-routed off of I-76 on our way to Denver. Brush got hit by two tornadoes.  They re-routed us on the outskirts of Brush. Grass flattened and huge trees pulled out of the ground. What s mess!  I hope you and your family are out of harms way.

    1. JJ Husker

      JJ Husker

We are fine but we did get golfball size hail with damage to the roof, window screens and trees. You be careful out there by Brush. They always get hammered in that area.

  17. Hey could someone who is at the game describe the Tunnel Walk. Did they play Sirius?  Scott looked really pumped

    1. ladyhawke

They didn’t show all of it on tv just when Scott and the team came out on the field.

They started Sirius- then music stopped and broke into a song I have no clue about...scratching my head and asked some younger kids what it was and they did not recognize it either...

@Vizsla1  Nobody near me recognized the song, either. But the sound quality on it wasn't great, and people were clapping and making noise.

  18. Hi Mavric I got this message under the Fundraising link:

Well, it worked for me once but now it's broken.

Perhaps it does that after the goal is reached.  But that's an odd way to show it.

NOW IT SAYS $480 OUT OF $500. I WAS GOING TO THROW SOME $$ IN TODAY. DID WE MEET THE GOAL ALREADY OR NOT?!?!!?

    4. Mavric

      Mavric

Technically I don't think the goal has been met.  But I also think the matching donor hasn't caught up with their part either.

So we're probably good as soon as they get a chance to get on here.  But we could always go over.  :)

It was my favorite but I also liked the Rocket Mortgage one where the guy explains all of he different things people were saying. That was funny too.

  20. Husker quarterbacks: Do you think Coach Frost will allow his quarterback to ‘play through the mistakes’ or will he pull them? (I heard this question on 1620 The Zobe this afternoon and thought it was interesting.  I think that as a former q.v. himself, Scott can tell whether a qb is having a ‘bad hair day’ and needs to sit out or the qb is just not getting it and needs to sit down. What do you guys think?

    2. brophog

      brophog

How often do you ever see a QB pulled for performance reasons, and how likely is that team to succeed when done? Coaches more or less allow QBs to struggle a bit. The ones that get yank happy rarely succeed.

    3. Husker John

      Husker John

My understanding is SF does not want his players to be afraid to make a play, or to fear failure. I think that's going to be a dynamic positive teaching environment for all our players.

    4. ladyhawke

      ladyhawke

I think that will happen as well, Husker John.  Scott wants to keep his players encouraged and learning how to improve their craft at the same time.

However, why wouldn’t a coach pull a qb that is obviously not getting the job done for that particular gam brophog?  There should be no shame in pulling the guy, putting another qb in who also needs to learn and who perhaps IS having a better day.  I’ve seen coaches do that before. Isn’t that what being a team is all about?

  23. I know most folks think that beauty pageants are a waste of time but we’re so proud of Miss Nebraska-Sarah Summers who won the Miss USA pageant. This was the first time a candidate from Nebraska has won.

This young woman is a graduate of my city’s high school and attended the elementary I taught in.   She was always the type of kid who helped others and is s great representation of our state.
