99% of 18 yr olds are still immature. And after looking on some college porn sites, I think college students are still the same way and have yet to learn anything (well some things I am sure they did)

I'm thinking that, given NU's newfound penchant for the quarterback being an important part of the ground game, and given that dual-threat quarterbacks are not as sought after as the prototypical pro-style variety, it would be wise to stockpile as many as possible, in case ONE gets hurt, you aren't tanking offensively. Hell, It may even become the case that QB's become interchangeable like RB's and WR's are...say for instance: QB 1 in for a series, or even just a few plays, then QB 2 in, QB 3 on short yardage, etc. In fact, Florida did something similar to great effect during Meyer's initial MNC run, as much as I think tebow is a clown, he was a great option in a short yardage situation.

 

Flip the whole concept of offense over on it's head, make a new model, a team model, where the #1 QB isn't important. The offense is. No more about "star" players(ESPN/Kingmakers be damned), rather a warring platoon replete with interchangeable moving parts.

 

Boy, that concept would mess with the big slow ten for sure...plus kinda old school Nebraska-ish.

Oh boy, that sure would be great! I would think with some real road-graders we could come close to that. Wisconsin doesn't have M. Vicks at qb and they're a load for anybody annually. Now that the seven years of fluffball is over and done with......

Are we flipping to a new concept where QB1 isn't important? It seems like the entire offense lives and dies on the legs of QB1 at the moment. I don't think you can really get away from QB1's importance anymore, unless your entire team physically outclasses the opponent in every way. Our 90's run is over and unlikely to be duplicated. QB1 will be critical to the team's performance no matter what style of player he is.

Callawatt's offense was a major failure before we even had a qb who could run.

 

Our 80's offense would be a HUGE upgrade. Maybe something close could be duplicated? Heh......just an idea.

Anyone else think that Bubba would be playing in he majors a lot sooner if he did choose college first? I do. Gordon Beckham comes to mind when you put it in those terms. Alex Gordon was in AA for a season then to the majors. He is not a pitcher.

Gordon made the majors (and you can barely call the Royals the majors) quickly, but it doesn't seem like college prepared him well for it because he went back down to the minors until this year.

 

I had to look up Gordon Beckham to see who he was. I'm not all that convinced by a .255 hitter. Where was he drafted out of HS? There are plenty of examples for and against going to college or not.

 

Carl Crawford made the majors at age 20.

 

edit: found that Beckham wasn't even drafted out of HS, so his decision wasn't even close to Starling's. Certainly there are guys who develop late, and college helps. Bubba doesn't seem to be one of them.

 

Gordon did not give his hitting coach the time of day when he first went up and you can take that to the bank.

correct, constantly switching qbs is not a proven recipe for success.

Keith Law from ESPN put out a mock draft, and he has Starling going 9th to the Cubs. What this means and who exactly Law is I don't know, but I do know that being picked 9th isn't being picked 1st.

 

Of course everything we've seen and heard from Starling makes it sound like the money is going to be down his decision list instead of near the top.

You're certainly right. Bubba himself has said he doesn't know if he's mature enough to be an adult just yet...don't forget about the numerous and practical intangible benefits of going to college for a few years and learning how to grow up and become an adult.

 

I think that's why he may come to Nebraska instead of going to the majors. He's so young and I think really close to his family. His Mom sure does want him to go to school but I've read his Dad is out of a job right now so Bubba might be feeling that he needs to help out financially. Tough decision.

Baseball America's mock draft says the same. There is a thinking that there are more quality arms(pitchers, nonbaseballers) in college than earlier projections, which is why Bubba "slipped" down to 9th.

 

But none to worry, my Cubbies led by that fat tard Hendry would pick Khiry Cooper before Bubba the way that moron runs a team.
