Lil' Red
On the replay it looked good to me but I think Maher's strong leg cost him there because if it wasn't above the uprights it would have been an easy call. And the kick should be review-able but no guarantees they would have overturned it after the Toledo-Syracuse game. Quote Link to comment
C N Red
They have shorter uprights in War Memorial than we have at Memorial Stadium, unless my eyes were batty. I read some commentary that the whole ball has to be inside the upright, and the ref determined that part of the ball wasn't inside. It was terribly, terribly close. There was no perfect camera angle that showed it was in. Hard to say the ref was wrong, when he had the best angle. You are correct sir, the entire ball has to be inside the post when it goes over the posts. If the ref deems any part of the ball would have touched the post it is no good. Quote Link to comment
Nhusker23
I was sitting in the south endzone (opposite the FG attempt) and it was really close, but looked a bit to the right. Quote Link to comment
tschu
Plese excuse my drunkeness I, too, have had many beers. And some bloody marys. And I have to get up early tomorrow. I should not be up talking to you guys. Its all good knapp, we appreciate it. I have to take an online test tomorrow morning because I am a procrastinating SOB. But hey, the fact that we are drunk and up late and posting on a message board says something about the quality of Husker fan that we all are, right? Quote Link to comment
deedsker
He got hosed!!!! Quote Link to comment
It'sNotAFakeID
My first thought was no good. Still think he got robbed after seeing the replay, but I digress. It didn't dramatically effect the outcome. Quote Link to comment
Landlord
Lost in all of this is that Maher absolutely bombed that ball from 50 yards. 1 Quote Link to comment
Hammerhead
From what I heard, it went directly over the upright, and the rule on that if the kick's directly over an upright it's ruled no good. Quote Link to comment
Danimal
It is ridiculous that Wyo has high school goalposts. Maher has a big leg but no way should a kick from that far be going over the goalposts and have to be a judgment call. Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt316
FWIW Kicks between the uprights are reviewable, kicks that go above them are not. IMO all uprights in Division 1 football should be required to be a specific height if you have a rule like that. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
FWIW Kicks between the uprights are reviewable, kicks that go above them are not. I tried to tell people this when they were freaking out about it in the Wyo discussion thread, but they weren't having it. Quote Link to comment
NUance
Lost in all of this is that Maher absolutely bombed that ball from 50 yards. Good point. 50 yards, at an angle. And the ball was 10 feet above the upright. That stadium would be a good place to set the ncaa record... Quote Link to comment
iowahusker09
hey at least it wasnt as bad as the call in the syracuse toledo game. Quote Link to comment
caveman99
Not sure if it was reviewable, but two things come to mind. First of all in the Syracuse-Toledo game, Syracuse missed an XPT with like 2 mins left that was called good by the Ref. They did review it and the call was UPHELD, despite clear evidence that the ball passed in front of the upright, not behind it. That was huge because Toledo hit a FG at the end of the game to "tie" the game and they ended up losing in OT. First they did review the kick, not sure if it makes a difference if the ball is above the post or not. Also it would appear getting the call right isn't as easy as it should, and despite clear video evidence to help. Quote Link to comment
papersun87
Lost in all of this is that Maher absolutely bombed that ball from 50 yards. And his kickoffs were routinely out the back of the endzone. Mountain air FTW? Quote Link to comment
