Questions for Michigan

I wouldn't pick NU to win, but if they can go about +2 in turnovers they should have a chance. They need to trust their younger guys on the O-line to get the job done. Reeves or Price needs to be able to play. I expect a low scoring game. I hope that defensively they load the box and force Michigan to beat us throwing the ball.

I don't know how rocking the big house will be. Go read some articles from the Michigan papers. Right now you could insert the word Nebraska instead of Michigan and it would sound like they were talking about us.

The Big House is a whole different kind of monster when its amped up and the teams prepared. Really hoping for a Sparty hangover.

I am not sure how crazy it will be at the big house, those fans are very much sick and tired of hoke right now and if they don't start out hot, it could be pretty quiet.

If they get the ball first, starting hot will be easy for them. Our D needs too much time to settle in.

I think the biggest question of the game is who do we put on Devin Funchess? The guy is a beast and I don't see who we put on him to cover. Ciante would be overpowered by him and Santos is not experienced and probably not quick enough to stay with him for some of the deep routes they run with Funchess. Stanley is big enough, but would be out of his natural position lining up in the slot and I wouldn't call SJB an excellent option in run support which is needed in that role. I could see us stopping Gallon on the outside, but could see Funchess going for about 150 yards and 2 TD's.

They may be sick of Hoke (kind of like how some are sick of Bo) but they are still playing Nebraska and they probably want to beat us just as bad as we want to beat them. I hate to compare Michigan fans to Nebraska fans but just for fun, if this game was at home and we had just lost to Northwestern last week, don't you think Memorial would still be rockin' this week? People would be calling for Bo's head left and right and be saying the season is shot. Even then, I still think the place would be going wild because of who we were playing, not so much the implications of the game. Michigan and Nebraska seem to be in a very similar place football wise right now. Both are questioning their coaches and I think match up fairly well on both sides of the ball. It's been talked about other places on here but opposing teams and fans definitely get up to play us and most of all, beat us. Especially when this game will really be the defining game for both team's seasons going forward. I still think The Big House is gonna be crazy.

My question is: When will we see this again?

First of all, +1 to Nuance for posting that. I had totally forgotten how awesome that play was. Well earned, sir.

Secondly, I'd put Ciante on Funchess and pray that he sticks on him somehow. SJB has proven he's not very good in the slot... He just doesn't seem to have the quickness needed, naturally, since he's such a big guy. He's got the hips to play the outside like a beast, but the slot would be a stretch. I know Bo doesn't like to add safety help on particular receivers, but I'd at least make sure both your safeties got a good whiff of the ole smelling salts before the game, because we're going to need them to close quickly to help contain Funchess when he is tossed the rock.

And, yes, VV should start. If he doesn't, Bo truly has his head buried in the sand. The big guy is our best asset against the run, and Bo know's he's coaching for his job at this point. No more dicking around :D

Can't find it now but I'm pretty sure AA mentioned it in the last couple days and said he hopes they run it again. Maybe if Turner is healthy ...

I wonder if Cross could get the job done. Getting the initial handoff and making the pitch, that is.

I was having a conversation with my buddies about how we stop Gardner. What I have always thought (dont know if I have ever posted) wouldn't be a bad idea to stop the Zone Read on defense is to get the other team's OC to stop calling it. I think the best way to do that is that first read play that they call, the DE that they are "optioning off" just takes a complete bull-rush at the QB and no matter if he keeps it or holds it, you hit him and you hit him hard. Nothing illegal, just make sure that he understands on that play he will get hit. The next couple times you do the same. If you get a penalty, you get a penalty. By the 3rd quarter or so that QBs legs will be so heavy that he won't be able to run it effectively. It could very well be a physcological thing as well.

IIRC, this is exactly what UCLA did to us last year that ultimately caused the safety. Every time we ran a zone read/option etc they crashed him whether he had the ball or not. It worked. Do the same against Michicken. Every time we can lay the wood, lay it. He, like most QB's, will start to get gun shy, make the wrong reads or play erratic as they go into self preservation mode from the pounding.
