caveman99
That profit number is expected to double in 2017 when the university gets a full share of the new tv deal. Are we going to sponsor curling or something with that money? Why do you think there is talk about creating a hockey team, and of course a female sport equivalent? NU athletics is a non-profit entity, it has to do something productive with the cash. Perhaps more facilities upgrades or perhaps the academic side will get a much bigger annual stipend from athletics than they currently get. Imagine what kind of research that could fund. 1 Quote Link to comment
Count 'Bility
So what if the university and/or NCAA is making a sh#t ton of their "services". Unless youre Bill Gates or Warrent Buffet, this is ALWAYS going to be the case in the real world. They better just get used to it. Warrant Buffett sounds like a killer fusion tribute band. Thanks for pointing out my typographical error. dick. Quote Link to comment

His monthly appearance on the Husker Sports Network, Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst threw cold water on the idea of the athletic department starting up a division 1 ice hockey program. The only sport Nebraska has any intention of starting is the new sand volleyball program. That's cold water, not the ice that a hockey program would need. A lot of people had hopes that with Eichorst's background at Wisconsin and the Big Ten's expansion into hockey that the Huskers might join the ranks of the division 1 schools with hockey programs. But that doesn't appear to be in the cards at this time. http://www.cornnation.com/2013/2/13/3983054/husker-hockey-isnt-coming-to-the-b1g-anytime-soon-but-it-does-exist Quote Link to comment
Landlord
At this time is different than 5-7 years from now, when we will definitely be exploring and planning to add hockey. Quote Link to comment

I was mistaken on the other schools and I apologize. sand volleyball gives Nebraska 24 sports (14 women, 10 men) and is the first new sport since women’s rifle was added in 1998. Mavric
Sipple's take: However, there exist at least two thorny issues: 1. Only the schools in the powerful Big Five conferences (Pac-12, Big Ten, Big 12, SEC and ACC) would be able to afford stipends. Which is why the Big Five is seeking autonomy, or a clean break from the fray. The NCAA seems destined to be divided into the "haves" (Big Five) and "have-nots" (everyone else). The NCAA board of directors will meet Thursday in Indianapolis to discuss stipends and other proposals that could benefit athletes, and change the landscape as we know it. 2. At some point, of course, stipends won't be enough. Athletes will want more and more and more, as big money flows all around them. And if they don't want more and more and more, savvy attorneys will convince them they should want more and more and more, and the legal battles will continue, along with the massive legal fees. Yeah, a big money grab. Let's face it, legal battles in college athletics -- one in particular -- could become more dramatic than the games themselves. Quote Link to comment
Abdullah the Butcher
Instead of adding more sports we could take the SEC model and spend millions more on football while having less teams. Quote Link to comment
