pitching a shutout so far. but there is something wrong with that according to the glass empty crowd here.

Thing is we were up 22-0 at half last week.

Yeah, but we're up 10-0 at half in a game a lot of people picked as upset special.

I'll take it. I'm happy... Hope we keep the shutout going in the second half. But if there are those who choose not to enjoy a ten point halftime lead, that's their prerogative.

The lead is nice. But everyone who is watching knows that the play itself as been pretty poor. And could just as easily be a deficet.

Got to hope the Offense has some serious adjustments to make at the half and we get out there and make a 3 & out and then take a drive in for a TD and get up 17-0. That would open up things some and be a tough spot to be in if your are Illinois. On the other hand, if they score, they will be in the driver's seat and odds are the home team wins if the game is close in the second half. Based on the scores around the Big Ten today, I would say we have a chance in any game (to win or to lose).

um, I think that's how it works unless you forfeit - both teams have a chance of winning

Interesting all the people saying a defense on pace to give up 500 yards is playing great

Points allowed > Yards allowed.

This defense needs confidence right now. Preserving goose eggs will provide it.

Literally ANY competent team would have points on us right now (2 missed field goals and a failure to convert 4and1). I'm sick of the moral victories, it's what turns into blowouts against good teams. And those are coming.

I never thought I'd see Nebraska get shutout for a quarter by the incompetent Illinois defense. But hey... we're up 7-0 so we're gonna win the west now!

I bet you also never thought that you would need to see a play of the year type play by Ameer last year for us to survive McNeese State either. I have an honest question for you, what is your purpose on here other than to nit pick and complain about everything right now? Is is because Bo is gone? You don't like Riley? A combo of both? I am not saying that everyone should be kool aid drinkers because no player or coach (to include TO for two piss poor HC hires) should be above criticism, but when you complain about the new staff failing in four plus games to get better results than the staff that recruited these players did, it makes you look like a scored lover and you lose all credibility. NOt that you seem to care, but whatever.
But sunshine pumpers I ask you this. If Bo was coach, would you be defending this team's performance the way you do with Riley. Be honest.
That's kind of the whole point man. It's a little difficult to take a team of guys brought in to play spread and teach them a pro-style offense. Likewise, a defense used to matchup bracket pass D learning to play run first D and quarters coverage I'm the back end AND learn how to tackle is a little bit much to chew off by the first game of conference play.

But Husker fans and patience never did get along...

I'm not saying fire the damned guy, but any hint of criticism is responded to with one of the following:

  • It's Bo's fault
  • 408
  • you're a troll
  • Melvin Gordon
  • at least the tackling is better
  • This loss isn't as bad as needing a last second TD to beat McNeese st
  • Adjustments
  • Bo would have lost by even more (or the variant "Sure we lost, but Bo's teams never had any comebacks ever so we would have gotten blown out instead")
  • Don't criticize Riley, you're just upset Bo was fired
  • It's too early to want to fire him

For the record:

I supported Bo. I wanted to give him time, I thought he could get us there. That doesn't matter now. He isn't the coach at Nebraska. Riley is.

We fired a coach that never won fewer than 9 games. I expect us to at least meet that number, but hopefully succeed. I like what I saw over the off season. Riley seems to be a genuinely nice guy. The players like him, media likes him, other coaches like him. Seemed to do decent in his first recruiting cycle.

But then the actual season started and we lost to BYU. And we lost to Miami. And we play this like against Illinois. I have serious doubts Riley is the guy for us. He deserves time to prove me wrong, I hope he does. But, if on the journey I have some misgivings and criticism don't pull this bullsh#t that I only want Bo back or that I am a spurned lover. Go back to my posts after the firing/hiring. I moved on. It's those that defend Riley at all costs that haven't.

We either get better, get worse, or we stay in this weird place of being mediocre. Ultimately, only time will tell.
