Trump's America

IDK, that seems like sound advice under all conditions. Unfortunately people in these types of positions do have need to CYA. Not real sure how this can be viewed as a knock on Trump. I'm sure Washington is and has always been looking for scapegoats to blame when things go south.

A friend of mine from small town Ohio (small business owner) just sent me this:

Sanctuary cities being cut off, making Mattis SecDef, and TPP dropout are all Trump had to do to satisfy the vast majority of us in the middle and we don't need to engage in some giant public jerk off to celebrate that. Anything else that goes on from here on out is extra gravy, as far as I am concerned.

I honestly hope more people have the courage to stand up to them like this.

Pulling this administration away from its worst, most destructive impulses is going to be an exercise that we're all going to have to participate in. It's going to take some cajones, because heads will probably roll. But the fact that it's the right thing to do, as opposed to pledging blind allegiance to Comrade Trump, means it is still worth doing.

So what can we do? Honest absolutely non-cynical question - I'm calling my public officials, sending post cards and letters to my congress and senate members, marching in protest, donating to ACLU and PP as well as others locally - what are you all doing that I can join? What can we be doing better or more of?

Find ways to create awareness. All the activities you mention are awesome and you are doing more than most. The only thing I could add is find a way to educate and recruit others. Help those that believe they have no voice to realize they can be heard. Whether this is volunteering for a political group or something else. In our current social & political climate, anyone that can be marginalized will be. Empowering people in one area of their life almost always flows to other areas.

Any entity that needs money can probably also use your time. My passion is typically for education-related programs for the underprivileged & underrepresented. The state education dept, local schools, and colleges all typically some type of volunteers in this regard. Your interest may vary.

It boils down to participation, education, and vigilance... You are doing great in this regard.

I'd like to add that CALLING your representatives at their office in your state (not the DC phone number) is usually more effective than letters, email, twitter, etc. Showing up in person is even more effective if you have the time. This advice comes from a number of people who have worked as staffers for politicians on both sides of the aisle.

So is Cuomo stupid, or is he admitting to being an illegal alien?

Neither. He's showing solidarity and support to those fearful of being deported or having their rights and/or privacy taken away.

The same way that, should there ever be a Muslim registry, you'll find me first in line to sign up.

Executive Orders Are Normal; Trump’s Are Only Appalling Because of What They Say

This gives a pretty good outline on Executive Orders, but doesn't compare the amounts Trump issued vs. Obama.

Still, it's pretty hypocritical for Republicans to either applaud Trump's Executive Orders or sit mum while he issues them, considering how vociferously they complained when Obama used them.

That's my point. We all heard Republicans ranting and moaning about how Obama's administration is a tyrannical government and how he trashes the constitution because of all the executive orders he signed without Congress's approval.

I'm guessing in the first week, the number he signed wasn't any more than what Trump has done.

I'm waiting for the cries of tyranny from the right.

Does anyone know how many executive orders Obama signed in the first week on the job?

Quite a few. He signed at least two immediately for closing Gitmo. IIRC, Obama's reliance on executive orders did not arise until later in his presidency (for obvious reasons).

I think it's the content of the orders that is more interesting to me than their quantity or timing.
