Cruz says he's coming back to Texas Thursday (today) and only went to cancun to escort his daughters.  :movegoalpost:

Yea right.  He felt the pressure and we'll see if his story holds up. I wonder if he takes the covid test before boarding the plane coming

back.

The latest: Cruz issued a statement Thursday claiming that he accompanied his daughters on the flight to Mexico for a vacation they wanted to take, and that he is flying back Thursday afternoon.

What they're saying:

Quote

This has been an infuriating week for Texans. The greatest state in the greatest country in the world has been without power. We have food lines, gas lines, and people sleeping at the neighbors’ houses. Our homes are freezing and our lights are out. Like millions of Texans, our family lost heat and power too.
With school cancelled for the week, our girls asked to take a trip with friends. Wanting to be a good dad, I flew down with them last night and am flying back this afternoon. My staff and I are in constant communication with state and local leaders to get to the bottom of what happened in Texas. We want our power back, our water on, and our homes warm. My team and I will continue using all our resources to keep Texans informed and safe.

— Sen. Ted Cruz

The big picture: While Cruz has no direct control over the power situation in Texas as a federal lawmaker, outraged critics argued the senator should be stateside trying to find solutions for his constituents.

  • More than 30 people have died as a result of the extreme weather sweeping across the South this week.
  • The Texas Democratic Party has called on Cruz to resign. Cruz's former Senate opponent Beto O'Rourke is coordinating volunteer efforts to check in on senior citizens in Texas.

Between the lines: The CDC has advised that individuals "should avoid all travel to Mexico" due to the coronavirus pandemic and that "[a]ll air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens, are required to have a negative COVID-19 test" before boarding a U.S.-bound flight.

Look at this nutter and her gun fetish. No trigger locks, no racks, just randomly propped up on books. LOOK AT ME! I'M A GUN PERSON!!!

What a party.

Weird.

I get that she is just trying to exercise her right and show off her hobby, but how does she not realize it looks ridiculous???

Imagine Ben Sasse wearing a Husker football helmet and his Runza vendor bag during a Zoom.  Self awareness is really lacking with many adults today.

My number one qualification for elected officials anymore is to just vote for the guy/gal that doesn't come across as a whack job...It's surprising how hard that can be :)

"Flyin' Ted"

This is terrible look for him.  Even though it’s a State issue, he needs to be in Texas and showing solidarity with those who are freezing and losing or will soon lose their property to water damage.
I can’t understood his thought process here.

No, I said Dave’s not wrong.

That's my point, though. (FWIW, didn't really mean to put you on the spot to answer). More of just a curiosity.

It largely sounds like a strawman. I don't know how many people out there legitimately believe a $600 stimulus check will "change their life." I know a lot of people who could use that money, but to literally "change their life?"

He also has to have a negative COVID test in order to return to the country. So he'll need to organize and show the negative proof before boarding the flight he claims he's taking tomorrow. And if he tests positive, he has to quarantine in Mexico for two weeks.

Icing on the cake in addition to all of the other reasons this is a really, really bad idea on his part.

He didn’t

You do understand the pandemic caused many people to lose their jobs and many businesses to close their doors and that is why people need stimulus checks, right? It isnt mental illness or any of the other crap he said.

It looked to me like you replied to the comment "Rush Limbaugh made America worse by being on the radio."

"He didn't".

As in Rush didn't make America worse by being on the radio.

I'll take your word for it.  Apologies if I misread your quote.

And if there are people whose lives would be dramatically changed by a $600 check, shouldn't we be in favor of that?

Absolutely, but I don't think that's what Dave is getting at or really addressing, and that's my problem with his opinion on this.

He's making it sound like the stimulus check is a lottery win. The vast majority of people on social media or those who have been interviewed about their financial struggles related to coronavirus just want to pay simple bills and afford themselves some stability. "Life-changing" suggests a clear and abrupt adjustment to every day life. A tangible if not monumental transformation. That's not what a stimulus check is intended to do.

He's effectively making these people sound like money-grabbers by minimizing and exploiting real challenges they're facing.

And (apparently?) conveniently forgetting that this is their own tax money being returned to them, not a gift or a handout.
