Guy Chamberlin
One thing Gavin Newsom does very well is think on his feet and speak extemporaneously. Despite all the sniping about taxes, housing prices, and lib regulations, California still has a very powerful economic and pro-business story, and Newsom does a good job of promoting it. He would absolutely destroy Trump and most Republicans in the Presidential Debates. But I think we're very close to the GOP simply refusing to take part in the debates, claiming it's just a gotcha exercise for the liberal media. 2 1 Link to comment

It's amazing to me the companies I talk to that say they would never locate a facility in California. In fact, that's why many of the states around California have a robust manufacturing economy. They manufacture in Utah, Nevada or Oregon....etc so they can ship into California. Link to comment

Many companies do move their manufacturing facilities to states and municipalities with cheap housing and labor, and often with incentives from those local governments. But it's always been that way. And of course those companies keep going in that direction until they find an even more robust manufacturing environment in China, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, etc. But California continues to generate s#!t tons of money for the United States by committing to innovation, intellectual property, and venture capital — a world leader in that regard — and that culture continues to be rooted in the state. Folks in the midwest often forget that California is the #1 agribusiness state in the country by a good margin. and is still the #3 defense contractor. Still plenty of Fortune 500 companies in the state, with more valuation than most countries. There has been a growing U.S. trade imbalance over the years, but California's tech, gaming, entertainment, and intellectual property business have done more than its share keeping us afloat. It's easy to make fun of California, and frankly the state deserves a lot of it, but the American economy would be screwed without us. 2 1 Link to comment

You are correct. California does produce a lot of tax revenue. But. Even those tech companies are starting to tire of doing business in CA. https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/2021-05-tech-office-lease-sf-twitter-salesforce-16151686.php Link to comment

It's just chef's kiss that California is the bane of all red states' existence while it is doing the heavy lifting subsidizing their way of life so they can continue their b!^@hing about the evils of big government, high taxes and the liberal agenda. 1 1 Link to comment

Those tech biznasses that started there 30 years ago no longer give AF about "being in" cali...that train has stopped and more will continue to leave. It is ironic that what made Cali this economic power the last 30 years is also going to be the reason that companies leave it... But hey, they still have porn industry which generates billions and for some reason Cali hates. 1 Link to comment
