I love the city of Chicago... Haven't been since 2010 tho.

Is the price for parking still a twenty to thirty?? I hated that bs

I love Chicago too.  Possibly my favorite city.

When I first started traveling there for work, I’d go downtown to eat at the original pizzeria Uno. Parking was maybe $10. Then, all of a sudden it was over $30.

Still worth it though.

Well there's more to pro-business than manufacturing. Many companies do move their manufacturing facilities to states and municipalities with cheap housing and labor, and often with incentives from those local governments. But it's always been that way. And of course those companies keep going in that direction until they find an even more robust manufacturing environment in China, Malaysia, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, etc.

But California continues to generate s#!t tons of money for the United States by committing to innovation, intellectual property, and venture capital — a world leader in that regard — and that culture continues to be rooted in the state. Folks in the midwest often forget that California is the #1 agribusiness state in the country by a good margin. and is still the #3 defense contractor. Still plenty of Fortune 500 companies in the state, with more valuation than most countries. There has been a growing U.S. trade imbalance over the years, but California's tech, gaming, entertainment, and intellectual property business have done more than its share keeping us afloat.

It's easy to make fun of California, and frankly the state deserves a lot of it,  but the American economy would be screwed without us.

I agree and don’t even live in the state.

It's just chef's kiss that California is the bane of all red states' existence while it is doing the heavy lifting subsidizing their way of life so they can continue their b!^@hing about the evils of big government, high taxes and the liberal agenda.

We should end the socialization of red states like Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, West Virginia and Arkansas immediately.

If citizens of those states want Gubmint out of their lives, we should allow it immediately. They can pick themselves up by their bootstraps and figure out out.

If, after being given their "freedom", they don't like being poorer, have crumbling infrastructure, or have worse health outcomes they can vote differently. Give Republicans what they want.

I use whatever app is handy to find cheap parking. We parked downtown all day on a weekday and I don't think I paid more than $12-$15. ParkingPanda, SpotHero, etc.

really?   Wow.  I don’t drive there anymore so, I don’t need it now. I typically fly in and take the train downtown then Uber anywhere the train doesn’t work for.

Finding cheap parking anywhere in Chicago is not hard if you're willing to walk even just a few blocks.

The last three months i lived there I had a full-time freelance placement working at Wilson Sporting Goods downtown across the street from the bean and I parked for $8 every day. Never paid more than $10-15 max for an event or a night doing anything unless a friend had cash to burn and was unwilling to walk three blocks.

Yeah...so...I get the feeling you are like super retired.  Right?

Well I gave up acting in porn years ago, but I still put in a few hours a month as a consultant for both very large corporations and nonprofit enterprises.

Not sure how it makes your point either way.

We’re here now.  Used SpotHero and parked 2 blocks from our downtown hotel for $125 for the week (Sunday-Friday).

We thought that was cheap. Especially compared to what the hotel wanted to charge us if we parked here.
