I think we had a thread on CHAZ and some crazies thought, for the first day or two, that it was this amazing utopia... And then of course...it turned into SALO. I guess my only contention is that zero people held up Chaz's six square blocks of anarchy as a utopia, and it has virtually no relevance or equivalency to a Presidential candidate offering to build shimmering new American dream cities from scratch. Other than that, awesome take! 1 1 2 Link to comment

It's starting to seem like mushrooms play a big part in "utopias". Eat mushrooms: CHAZ is beautiful! Have a mushroom in your pants: govt built cities are beautiful! 1 2 Link to comment

We were talking about Donald Trump promising voters dream cities funded from magic beans -- and he has millions of loyal followers who could make him the next president. Again. One strategy for that nightmare is convincing people that CHAZ is the comparable analogy. 1 1 Link to comment

TGHusker
Ga Gov Kemp says the GOP is heading towards disaster if it sticks with Trump and keeps alienating voters with outrages policies. He is right. He also says he is not running for the presidency. Unfortunately after he spoke at the GOP meeting in Nashville, Trump came to town to speak to the group. I wonder whose path they will follow? https://www.arcamax.com/politics/politicalnews/s-2811031 Quote Gov. Brian Kemp delivered a scathing rebuke of Donald Trump on Saturday as he urged national Republican leaders to set aside the former president’s obsession with his 2020 election defeat and focus on issues that can attract broader support. “Not a single swing voter in a single swing state will vote for our nominee if they choose to talk about the 2020 election being stolen,” Kemp said at the Republican National Committee’s meeting in Nashville, Tennessee. “To voters trying to pay their rent, make their car payment or put their kids through college, 2020 is ancient history,” he said, adding that voters want to know the GOP’s vision for the future and “couldn’t care less about anyone’s sour grapes.” He framed the ongoing criminal inquiries of Trump in Atlanta, New York and Washington as a “distraction that could cost us dearly next year if we allow it” by shifting attention from voter concerns about the economy, public safety and other pressing issues. Once close allies, Trump made Kemp one of his top targets in 2022 after the governor refused to illegally overturn Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia. Kemp fended off Trump’s attempt to oust him last year on his way to a reelection victory fueled by support from swing voters. In the heat of the midterm, Kemp often told voters he wouldn’t say a “bad word” about Trump to avoid alienating his supporters. With a second term safely in hand, Kemp is among party leaders who are pleading with fellow Republicans to move on from Trump. The governor, who recently ruled out a presidential bid of his own, didn’t mention Trump by name. He drew laughs when he noted that the audience will hear from several 2024 candidates — and that “some of them like me more than others.” “We lost winnable races in swing districts and states that will be crucial to our success next year if we want to win back the White House,” said Kemp, who said the electoral backlash went beyond infighting over “unproven claims of election fraud” or frustration with the establishment. Republican candidates who talked about “more freedom, better schools, lower taxes, less government and safer streets” had winning messages, he said. “In the other places where the Democrats pulled out unexpected wins, in my opinion, Republicans got distracted.” Link to comment
Archy1221
Kemp is right. If GOP candidates look backwards and re-litigate 2020 or 2022 then they will lose and deserve to lose imo. Gotta have a forward looking agenda. 1 1 Link to comment
Guy Chamberlin
By the way, I will pay hard cash to anyone producing a HuskerBoard post where a poster thought CHAZ was some kind of utopia, or showed support for the Chinese Communist Party. 1 2 Link to comment
