It's just another ideological battleground. It's not at all about that - it's just an avatar for winning the culture wars. It's funny because right-wing folks bemoan how the left tries to turn everything into power dynamics and identity politics....then they turn around and celebrate a W in an environment like this that doesn't really mean much, but is perceived as a victory for their group.

Well they're also scoring Ws across the South as they ban books and rewrite text books so absolute bulls#!t can be held up as "the other side of the story."

The other side of this culture war requires people to be less intelligent. That's a stone-cold fact.

If anyone of any political stripe is relying on news from Twitter, they deserve Elon Musk.

I won't even say Musk is going to be bad, that isn't fair. He just hasn't impressed me with his stances vis-a-vis Twitter, whereas it seems like a lot of other people are super jacked about him. I could see why his expressed views could sound great to someone, in a vacuum, as applied to incredibly black and white situations. You don't really learn much about him because those situations are easy. When situations become more complex and require some degree of nuance to parse out and you'll find a bit more about Elon's Twitter in practice.

Part of the reason I can't manage to get my jimmies rustled by it being less automatic to find conservative views on social media is how incredibly dishonest they tend to be. In general the amount of derp that spreads like wildfire on social media is astounding. And it's probably bad for whoever is exposed to it by making them actively stupider. Part of me says just burn it all down and chalk it up as a mistake.

Identity politics is such a funny complaint coming from the American right. It's died down now in favor of "radical socialism" but it was always ridiculous because they did the same thing, just focused on white, Christian identity politics.

A necessary component of the censorship discussion is that the American right LOVES playing the victim card 24/7 even when they haven't actually been victimized. Certainly not on Twitter. They haven't been shadowbanned. They either got regular banned by breaking terms of service (generally very obviously for cause) or their opinions just sucked and weren't popular.

For a crowd so centered on machismo, they would certainly be taken a lot more seriously if they stopped acting like petulant whiners all the time.

That's one view I guess.

I don't give a rats azz one way or another, but I can guarantee you that the far left are waaay bigger whiners

If the question was whether Alex Berenson was wrong or misleading --- and it was --- I think I've answered it.

I'd also suggest his level of certainty, outrage, and shoutiness was unwarranted, and thus this meme shouldn't be shared so triumphantly.

But every point ened up true. You may have viewed it as misleading at the time, but hindsight bears it out.

No. No it didn't. Not even close. I already addressed this.

Hindsight makes it even more stupid.

I would say far left and far right are both big whiners. They are constantly complaining about trivial s#!t.  Whether it be wearing a mask in Menards or complaining that Barbies are in different aisles than Ninja Turtles. It’s what makes them all so damn unbearable.

You told us your view. Which is fine, but doesn't make it a fact.

The vaccine does not/has not stopped contaction or transmission. Therefore, it is not like a "normal" vaccine.

I agree it does mitigate the consequences of contracting acovid.

Neither does the flu shot, neither does the tetanus shot, neither does chicken pox or shingles. Please don't quit your day job and leave the defining of vaccines to the doctors and pharmacists.

So, you agree. Thanks.

I never claimed that I am any of those things...just someone who can see the actual/factual results of this argument.

The first part of Musk's tweet is true.

The second part of Musk's tweet is absolutely 100% false. Neutrality does not, in any way, imply equally upsetting both sides, because the sides aren't symmetrically far from center.

Put it this way. Forget conservative/liberal for a second. If 80% of the "far left" side believe in political compromise and only 32% of the "far right" do, being neutral does not mean that you adopt the middle between those positions (even though that's exactly what Elon is suggesting).

If you have any more reliable info on this I'd appreciate it. Looking into it, all it yielded was a lot of unsubstantiated allegations, a story by Vice that alleged it was occuring and a NYT article stating it was not. Closest I can find is Republicans mad their name was not auto-populating into the "suggested accounts" when you search for someone on Twitter - but that you can STILL go to their page directly and view all of their tweets.

If that's the case it's another example of Republicans feeling victimized about something I can't really pretend to care about.

We experienced it a lot during the height of covid during live streams of our podcast.  Once some of the data became questionable we would have debates and discussions and gained a lot of live viewers during that time.  Then they magically disappeared when we would say specific things.  Has happened multiple times since the election as well when someone says anything about vote count inaccuracies, masks/vaccines and criticism of Biden over certain things.

Specifically YouTube is the main culprit.  We had a video of someone reading something in the middle of the long show, then a clipped down portion of just that.  One video was deemed misinformation or something along those lines, the other never got a strike.  They started using the strikes as a way to enhance the shadowbans as well, if the strike is a two week live restriction, you can expect around 3 months of being buried in the algorithm and search results.   You would have to type in the full name of the channel, hit enter, AND sift through various other related channels before finding it.  Before you could type in half the name and it would pop right up as a suggestion.

There are sneaky things they can do to minimize reach, none of it they admit to.  At least Twitch just outright bans people and is honest about it.
