  1. A fair number of the posters in this political forum lean conservative, too. But maybe it's not so obvious. Because as soon as these conservatives and Republicans and Libertarians express disgust over Donald Trump, or complain that one-time conservative values have been hijacked by partisan obsessives, they get lumped in as knee-jerk liberals, and the "responses to them" show no more open-mindedness that what you appear to be complaining about. The reason it's hard to defend Trump, his administration and spokespeople, and many of the right wing talking points is because they are wrong on so many moral and logical levels. I think that's starting to tire out all but the most deluded true believers. Anyone who wants to challenge some convenient liberal myths -- jump on in. I'll join you. But if your logic is shot down by tons of evidence to the contrary, it's not necessarily because you're a victim of liberal groupthink. You may just be wrong.

  2. You've made some cogent points on this thread, and forced some other posters to rethink and redefine their positions. This forum could use a little more push from the right. But this is one of those "true colors" posts. Ugly and inaccurate and yet clearly indicative of the mindset: a brave warrior for the truth who will swallow any bulls#!t conspiracy theory to thwart his liberal adversary. And then run away like a coward. This is why there aren't more people like you on this forum. Speaking of the truth, please let me know the college where you are teaching. We need to protect our children.

  7. i don't need to prove myself to them. i might try to make them realize they are being mushrooms and being fed bulls#!t from Fox and friends but they will never believe me. what i have done is registered as independent now. i will try to judge the person i vote for on his or her own merits rather than paying any attention to whether they have an R or D or I by their name on the ballot. we should ll do that anyway no matter what party we belong to. i think alabama might have started to realize that this year. and i will try to stick to the topic of this thread from here on. i let wooo boy divert me. he is like a russian bot spewing junk to divert us from the topic of the thread.

  9. I'll jump in and do it on this thread, because that's where we happen to be. The abortion rate in the United States is at an historic low right now, even lower than it was prior to Roe vs. Wade. Contraceptives help stop unwanted pregnancies. Those are facts. Informed speculation suggests that Planned Parenthood -- by its name and everything they do -- is trying to reduced unwanted pregnancies through private counseling and easily available contraception, and has been highly successful at this. When unwanted pregnancies happen anyway, abortion is a legal option. The combination of safe, legal abortion, sex education and multiple affordable contraceptive options appears by every available metric to have reduced unwanted pregnancies and the abortions that come with them. Prior to Roe v Wade, illegal abortions were common -- again, at an even higher rate than they occur now when abortions are legal. People with money could get safe abortions for their wives, daughters, and mistresses from reputable family doctors. People without money had to rely on unsafe abortions from high risk practitioners. So it would make sense for Planned Parenthood to ensure their services were available in low-income neighborhoods -- including the free contraceptives that cut into those awesome abortion profits -- but in fact Planned Parenthood is in cities and neighborhoods of all incomes and ethnicities.

  20. Every so often I try to imagine that Obama is president. And it turns out his campaign adviser helped get a pro-Russian anti-European president elected in Ukraine and that president's opponent jailed. He then refused to implement sanctions on Russia after they attacked Ukraine. He then gave away classified intel from one of our allies to the top Russian spy. + 500 other things. Then I imagine how the "lock her up" Republicans would be reacting. Then I wonder how they could be so completely self unaware.

  22. Here's what I think: if men could get pregnant, not only would abortions be legal, they'd also be covered by health insurance, there would be an abortion clinic on almost every street corner, and there would be zero stigma to have one.

But, I’m sure im a libtard wackjob becauss Trump is a disgusting piece of s#!t and I would never belong to a pathetic organization like the NRA or the Republican Party right now. Ummmm......try harder.

  24. I didn't see the post, but I don't see how it requires dancing at all. The Republican party doesn't hold a monopoly on conservatism.

  25. No. You are stating talking points from some conservative propaganda - not facts. And later we can discuss on an appropriate thread.

  26. Yes, exactly. A lot of the most frequent posters here are quite conservative, though it may not be obvious. I'd be hopeful if their views shaped a new American conservatism in the years to come. I'd venture to say this board is more receptive to conservative ideas than liberal, though I wouldn't have figured this not too long ago. But conservative is not the same as the modern GOP, and that's a big difference. The slave patrol history of the 2nd amendment called to mind another thing: Section 2, Article 1, as it still appears: It's a good thing we have amendments.

  31. This is like when you're playing with a little kid, and they start running away saying, 'You can't catch me!' They think they're smart, baiting you into chasing them, without letting you know that they want you to chase them. It's cute. And childish.

  32. That's why you lock the doors if you leave it. I don't know about Nebraska but around here you can get ticketed for a "puffer" vehicle if you leave it running unattended. But I really don't care if it's 3 degrees out I'm going to opt for staying warm. I keep mine in the garage at night but t I do have to park outside at work so I usually just hit the remote start about 10 minutes before I leave. Kind of upset that my seat heaters don't come on with the remote start like my last vehicle did. I'm a wuss.

  33. Other sources, unbiased - worth reading in full. https://www.factcheck.org/2011/04/planned-parenthood/ Oh and forgot to acknowledge the reference you made to the PP organization trying to capitalize on putting clinics in low income, minority heavy areas. Perhaps that is true, but when choosing a location they aren't looking at census data and income levels in order to make money of what you hint at as a population that is churning out babies and aborting them when given the chance. It's been chosen because there's been a need determined, or an outage with affordable healthcare in the area. Are you a believer in the fact that contraception is better than abortion? That preventing an unwanted pregnancy is better than giving a child up for adoption? That a pregnant mother should have consistent medical care during her pregnancy? That men who no longer want to take pregnancy risks on have an option for sterilization? That cancer screenings and basic healthcare appointments are deserved regardless of employment status, income, sex, insurance status etc? That teenagers should be counseled on education of pregnancy prevention and other options for birth control? https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2017/10/03/are-most-planned-parenthood-clinics-in-urban-areas-where-women-have-adequate-access-to-care/?utm_term=.91c2474baaf3 More specific info on determining location placement: And re: adoption referrals - they aren't tracked, just as referrals to sites that do mammograms or vascectomy's if the clinic doesn't aren't tallied.

  34. there was an armed guard at columbine. also at the pulse night club. and at this latest school shooting in florida. and there were armed security at the las vegas concert. the assault rifle wielding nuts have so much firepower that the pistols had very little effect in stopping them when they were employed at columbine and the nightclub. not sure if the guard in florida would have done much good or not if he hadn't froze......we will never know.

  37. I mean there are probably plenty of people that do want to ban all guns, but here's the problem with the NRA and the right. There's been many opportunities to have common sense closing of loopholes after past tragedies and instead they dug their heels in and went to state legislators to get more permissive laws passed still. That digging in means that when there's enough political will to do something in the opposite direction its going to snap back the other way to the extreme. I have very little sympathy for the far right on this, even as a gun owner, they've made that the inevitable outcome by blocking any attempt for very small limits to who can get guns and more background checks for all these years as mass shooters keep upping the body-count.

  38. But they aren't paying their own way except for the education part. Walk Ons cost a lot of $. Read Mavric's post. $450,000 for 20 players. If they do these they need to add 20 female walk ons to other programs or make a new team. Also, people arguing that this will make the team better are missing the point. I think we can all agree it will make the team better and we want that, so it's pointless to discuss that part of it. Discussing it is a way of implying that someone in the discussion doesn't understand this fact. We all want the football team to be good. I care more about football than any female sport UNL has to offer. I also think people should look into what Title IX did. I wouldn't want anything about it to be reduced in any way. 1 out of 27 girls played high school athletics before it was implemented.

  43. They may feel marginalized but it's a myth that rural voters will be marginalized, or that they afe now. Right now they are advantaged. Nebraska has 4% of the senate, but only 0.6% of the population. It's harder to gerrymander people who are in lower populated areas. It's harder to affect them by reducing voting hours and access to voting booths. And then there's electoral votes per voter. Seems to me that more of these states have lower population density.
