  7. When Nebraska ran the ball frequently and effectively, and Tre Bryant got into a rhythm that lasted all four quarters, I thought "well that's one thing HuskerBoard won't be able to complain about." Man, I was wrong.

  8. One of the things I've learned over my 15 years ... one gains greater respect when one posts information on recruits that they read and source out. When a newbie or long standing member starts to just throw out their random thoughts and hunches it leads to debate and division. Every recruits thread is a place where one can state an opinion, from what I've gathered, yes, but it is best to stay on topic as well. You will never go wrong with taking a back seat, reading and becoming familiar with the topics, recruits and other members ... to learn how to become a good member on the board. Personally, I get frustrated with folks who come in try to build a "rep" around here but who can't back it up. I really appreciate the members who state info they find and source it out. They will share opinions as well but will always have some substance to the reasoning. Welcome to the board by the way. I've been around a while but do more reading and listening. I use to get really involved in the recruiting and drank a lot of red kool-aid. Now, I don't try to hype myself up or the board about any recruit ... I just follow the recruiting and hope to get a view on how a recruit might fall based off some of these key guys in here who know certainly far more then I. Sincerely, Mark

  20. So....just so I know what to think about this. Before the game, I remember a couple different conversations: a) We NEED a featured back. I specifically asked why running 200 yards with one back is better than running for more yards with multiple backs.....I was told I obviously have no clue what I'm talking about. Clearly we need a featured back and one who can take over the job. b) Constantly, fans complain that we don't stick with what is working. Well.......running Bryant was OBVIOUSLY working. So.....I'm guessing those two thought processes are wrong?

  21. Lots of people are implying it with all their doom and gloom all over the forum. And this topic isn't really about confidence or overconfidence, despite the title. The OP said he doesn't understand how anyone could think Nebraska has a legitimate chance of winning. There is a huge chasm between thinking Nebraska has a legitimate chance of winning and feeling confident that Nebraska will win. People who think Nebraska doesn't have a legitimate chance of winning the game have either never watched college football or are masochists who like to wallow in their own misery (i.e. cry in their beer).

  31. Geeeeez. I can see why there is bad blood there between the Huskers and the Chickens. A lot of Miami fans have been downright mean spirited about the cancellation. Saying our close game with Nebraska meant nothing because Nebraska was fat and slow(more than one said this). They just can't understand how low class it was for their admin. to cancel the game when ever other Florida team is still playing Saturday. It was well known that Richt wanted to cancel the game when he was hired. They needed a way out and got it. Really, really sorry and pathetic. Their fans are awful. Several have been banned for dropping F bombs on our board.

  32. He said stakeholder, not stockholder. It is a public university that runs on tax dollars and an athletic department than runs on the money of the fans. They have to take fans into account when they make decisions, or the money runs out. That is basic business school stuff here, folks. Don't bite the hand that feeds you.

  36. Thought I'd copy SOME OF the article here - too important to miss the full read - so go to the website noted above. I made bold several important points. Note the final bold copied here: The brief from current and former House members noted that Mr. Reagan had referred to gerrymandering in 1987 as “a national scandal” and called for “an end to the anti-democratic and un-American practice of gerrymandering congressional districts.” WASHINGTON — Breaking ranks with many of their fellow Republicans, a group of prominent politicians filed briefs on Tuesday urging the Supreme Court to rule that extreme political gerrymandering — the drawing of voting districts to give lopsided advantages to the party in power — violates the Constitution. The briefs were signed by Republicans including Senator John McCain of Arizona; Gov. John R. Kasich of Ohio; Bob Dole, the former Republican Senate leader from Kansas and the party’s 1996 presidential nominee; the former senators John C. Danforth of Missouri, Richard G. Lugar of Indiana and Alan K. Simpson of Wyoming; and Arnold Schwarzenegger, a former governor of California. “Partisan gerrymandering has become a tool for powerful interests to distort the democratic process,” reads a brief filed by Mr. McCain and Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island. The Supreme Court will hear arguments in the case, Gill v. Whitford, No. 16-1161, on Oct. 3. The Republican National Committee, the National Republican Congressional Committee and the Republican State Leadership Committee all filed briefs on the other side. They urged the Supreme Court to reject a challenge Charles Fried, a Harvard law professor who served as United States solicitor general under President Ronald Reagan, and who is among the lawyers representing Republican politicians urging the Supreme Court to reject extreme political gerrymanders, said it was important to take the long view and to act on principle. “It’s not a partisan issue,” he said. “We are working for our republic, and not for Republicans.” In the 1980s, when Democrats had more political power in state legislatures, they were enthusiastic proponents of partisan gerrymandering, Mr. Simpson, the former Wyoming senator, said. “The Democrats laid the groundwork and set the template, and then Republicans figured they better get cracking, too,” he said. The two parties’ legal arguments have flipped as their power shifted, Professor Fried said. These days, both parties are using their power more aggressively than ever, according to a brief filed by 65 current and former state legislators, 26 of them Republicans. The phenomenon is commonplace, Mr. Schwarzenegger said. “It’s a rigged system,” he said. “You have situations where you get 50 percent of the vote but only 35 percent of the seats. That is corrupt. That is incorrect. It’s unfair to the people.” “They know that elected officials’ legitimacy comes from being freely chosen by voters, not through seizing power from voters to keep themselves in control,” added The challengers say they have identified a mathematical formula to help identify unconstitutional partisan gerrymanders. Representative Brian Fitzpatrick, Republican of Pennsylvania, joined a brief filed by current and former members of the House of Representatives urging the Supreme Court to reject the Wisconsin maps. He said partisan gerrymandering had contributed to toxic polarization in the House of Representatives. “You have 435 districts in the nation, and there’s probably only 20 or so that are legitimate swing districts,” he said. “For the 415 safe seats, their main election is in the primary, not the general. When the main election is in the primary, you legislate accordingly. The result has been a growing cavernous divide, which has created a Hatfield v. McCoy environment in the legislature, and it’s hurting the American people.” The brief from current and former House members noted that Mr. Reagan had referred to gerrymandering in 1987 as “a national scandal” and called for “an end to the anti-democratic and un-American practice of gerrymandering congressional districts.” Mr. Simpson said it was time for the Supreme Court to heed that call. “This case is long overdue,” he said. “Quite literally, gerrymandering is killing our system. Most Americans think politicians are corrupt, and when they’re rigging maps to pick their own constituents, they’re giving them reason to believe it.”

  38. I get what you're saying but isn't this the same argument some people make AGAINST our own head coach? That he is a 500 coach at Oregon St so no way he could be better than Bo who won 9 games every year but is still coaching in FCS? Aren't we both transitioning?
