  2. IMO it's an issue for both of them. They're his private security and it was his golf resort. I would think the two could work together to come up with cost effective and amicable housing for his security detail. Additionally, the sheer volume of times he traveled led to them renting the cottage nightly just to be prepared. That's pretty wild if you think about it. And it's not like the Secret Service can just... not go where the president goes. There's also no question Trump ran up a considerable travel bill during his presidency. For comparison, Obama had $97 million in travel expenses during his eight years. It took Trump only three years to blow past that figure, mostly on golf trips and vacations. In a one-month period in 2017, he spent $13.6 million on four trips to his Mar-A-Lago resort. This all comes from the Government Accountability Office. It's no surprise that the admin was also pretty hush hush about the spending leading up to the 2020 election. Doesn't paint a pretty picture of fiscal responsibility.

  3. This may not necessarily be 'censorship.' Perhaps we should have a separate discussion thread for cancel or 'woke' culture discussions, but either way, found this situation interesting. 6 Dr. Seuss books won’t be published for racist images Here's my take on this kind of stuff, generally speaking. If they feel it is wrong to profit off of those kind of things and don't want to publish any more copies, that's their prerogative. Ultimately, I understand and can respect the argument in favor of this. But I don't necessarily like them being pulled from schools or, in some cases, the attempts to prevent exposure. I think that can sometimes do more harm than good. Perhaps we should be having conversations about how to teach and instruct off of these materials, showing why things they did might be wrong by today's standards ethical standards.

  5. The cash flow machine started early in the four-year grift. Remember how much trumpets praise him for working without a salary? Hell, he made up one year's worth of that salary in rent from the Secret Service from one location.

  6. If someone coming in can help the team, bring them in. If they are just being brought in because, hey...this looks good to the fans....then don't do it.

  7. From what I am reading, it sounds like the issue stems from the artwork in the books more so than the words. I wonder why they couldn’t rework the art and keep publishing? Seems like this is an overkill, but they control the rights so it’s up to them I guess. My personal opinion is I think it’s being overly sensitive.

  12. Yes it is relevant. If Trump stayed at Bedminster for 30 total days ( don’t know the number) in a calendar year but SS rented a cottage for 365 days, that seems to be a SS problem not a Trump problem.

  13. Axios points out some political hypocrisy GOP members who oppose proxy voting - went to CPAC and then voted by... proxy. Think of the bigger picture. They oppose the mass mail in voting vs in person voting during the pandemic, yet it is ok for them to do so in Congress so they could attend CPAC. https://www.axios.com/republicans-ditch-congress-cpac-covid-vote-37b7aa48-3e42-4da5-84a7-3363b1162fb7.html

  22. To the bolded, I'm asking because these are paid staff members in Trump's administration who made the decision to spend the money. Making it seem like it's an 'SS' problem treats them like they're some third party vendor and they're not. They're a part of his admin. Why would the SS be responsible for setting the terms and conditions of being able to stay at the president's resort during a vacation stay? They can't not go where he goes. Those rates were set by the resort, a resort owned by Trump, who directly profited from the expense. And somebody decided it was acceptable to rent a nightly cottage in order to be prepared for Trump's stay. The fact that Trump basically funneled significant amounts of taxpayer money into his coffers in the primary issue here. I, too, will not harp on vacation time in general. A stressful job deserves time off. Trump verifiably took that to the extreme and made significant profit off of it. At best, it's gross negligence. At worst, it's profiteering.

  24. What should the Secret Service have done? Told trump he couldn't go to his expensive resorts? I'm not seeing how this is the Secret Service's fault at all.

  25. Yes, it is very well done. Makes the Gospels come alive but it is not a traditional religious film. They try to paint the participants as they may really have been without the stain glass religiosity. A lot of 'behind the scenes' type of stories. Putting more flesh on the scriptural narrative.

  30. Math question. How do they get 15%? In 2019, the population was 328 million. So, 75 million would be 22.8%. For it to be 15%, the population would need to be 500 million.

  32. This is so beautiful, especially because of how many options exist off of it. There are three reads here: 1. Thor reads Mayen coming down for the dribble hand off. He has to determine if the man guarding Mayen can get there and/or if his own defender will hedge and ultimately trap him if he gets the ball. Thor then immediately clears out after denying the hand off and passing to Andre 2. Andre doesn’t give to Thor after he clears out, this may be a dummy action but we probably have a counter somewhere off it where Thor takes it and uses Andre as a screener if his man overplays it and shoots under the screen for a quick 3 3. Hard dribble at Mayen by Andre and then beautiful denial and back cut by Mayen. Just a RIDICULOUS pass for a Center to throw but Andre leads him perfectly for the easy bucket. It’s just gorgeous.

  34. It's all in the presentation. If I were Frost, I would make sure the players know exactly who these guys are, even show some short clips of playing time and what the accomplished and explain why they are there as mentors. Then, Peter and Forman should almost never even bring up the past and only talk about the "now" and "future" and how these kids can get there. If a kid wants to ask about the past, fine, keep it short and sweet then get back to the now and future. I think the part where Peter loses some people is his wide eyed crazy talk about what he thinks it takes to be great and people think that's just him living in the past. Funny thing is, I think he had that same wide eyed crazy talk in college. I understand why some people think that gets old. But, that's just the way he is.

  38. With the new administration, there is now some movement on this issue based on the Axios article below. The last post in this thread was from Sept 2019 - way before covid and way before George Floyd & other similar situations were brought to light and also before all of the unrest of 2020 that followed. Have your attitudes changed since then regarding reparations? https://www.axios.com/biden-cedric-richmond-reparations-f4984eab-18fd-4f4b-ad14-4cd10c54a18a.html

  41. Biological sex has to do with sex chromosomes, and there are more than 2 combinations in nature. Gender has to do with social constructs, like the idea that men should wear pants and like the color blue, women should wear dresses and like the color pink. These have nothing to do with biological sex.
