  1. I still say that for the passes Adrian misses that another QB maybe hits, he makes up for it with his legs. I'd say these improvisation running plays he makes are probably worth an extra 3-5 completions per game. When he is given time to throw I really think he's a good QB in this scheme.

  3. And the funny thing about that play too is that Martinez could have pump faked and then just jogged around that defender and then picked up like 20 yards on the ground. I feel like every time Adrian rolls out of the pocket as opposed to standing in it, his potential effectiveness on any given play goes way, way up.

  4. Offense has gotten probably 90% of the discussion on this board since the Illinois game, and probably for good reason. But one thing was sticking out again to me against Fordham on defense: I'm still not sure what our pass rush looks like once we start playing good teams. We showed what I guess you'd call good "bull rushing" in our first two games, where our three down linemen + Nelson just cave the pocket in. But I'm just not sure if that will be enough against teams like Michigan State on up on the schedule. Might be good enough for Buffalo & Purdue... My other question is whether or not we even have a Nickel sort of package at all? We probably needed one against Fordham the way they were slinging the rock. Pass coverage was pretty leaky at times for playing an FCS team.

  5. Adrian has a 63.9% career completion percentage rate. Taylor's was 59.8%. And Tommy's was 53%. INB4 the "aDriaN THrowS A l0t of shORT PAsseS" comments. So I don't think that second sentence has to be drawn up as "could be," I think we can and should substitute "is" in its place there, right? And last year he had 3 interceptions in the 7 full games he played in (and he technically played in all 8 games). He's got 0 INTs so far after these two games. I'd say that once he got that relatively bad 2019 campaign off his back he's been a lot better with decision making - but the fumbles at inopportune times are of course a concern. Put that in bold so that certain posters don't swoop in and claim I'm a "Martinez turnover denier."

  6. I do think that Martinez's average turnovers per game are now significantly trending downwards, for whatever that's worth. Last year he cleaned up interceptions by quite a bit, but it was still fumbles where he was struggling. He's started off strong again in the interceptions department and being smart with not throwing into traffic in 2021...but of course the scoop & score fumble in the Illinois game sticks out in fans' minds in a big way (understandably).

  7. I find it comical how a lot of people on this board are predicting which games we can and can't win after most teams have only played one game. Is Tulane really good or does Oklahoma suck? Washington must be trash. Iowa must be unbeatable because they beat an IU team that may or may not suck. Why don't we wait til we all have more tape to go off until we decide who can beat who. Not like a team could look really good when one player is making extraordinary plays (Minn) and then that player is lost for the year and that same team doesn't look so good anymore.

  8. Agreed. When I look at what the potential is of our WR room and then what it looks like Stepp is capable of though, I really think this could be the season where our offense breaks out. For me it's a question of whether or not special teams and dumb penalties wind up cancelling it all out.

  9. In two minutes of looking I found another B1G QB who had more turnovers than Adrian did last year. So not only did Martinez not lead the conference in turnovers "by a wide margin" he didn't lead at all. Which means your statement is false unless you are comparing everyone's totals over the last three years which would be penalizing him for playing way more games than most everyone else, which seems like you're finding stats to fit your narrative as opposed to really looking at it objectively. The stats you are stating above have so little to do with your original assertion - not to mention doing nothing to prove your point - it's almost comical.

  10. The time to make staffing changes was this past offseason and all we did was make an analyst upgrade. A fourth losing season and the CFB world largely writes-off this regime. Good coaches with options will not come here to crew what's seen as a sinking ship. We would have to beat the bushes for proven guys with baggage or unproven guys that are considered up-and-comers. Plus recruiting will take another hit, we already dropped off the radar of 4*'s, we'll drop off the radar for high 3*'s too. Booster donations and season ticket sales(which also require donations) will take a hit. We have already lowered the bar considerably for Frost, if he can't clear that by making a bowl in year four I don't see reason to have faith and give him year 5.

  11. I'm not sure that's really the case. At times, sure. But Pro Football Focus differentiates between when the OL gives up pressure and when the QB holds it too long and gets pressured. I don't know how many pressures they credited to Martinez but the line was credited with giving up pressures/hits/sacks 16 times on 34 pass attempts (including sacks). Basically every other pass play he was getting pressured. Being under that much heat definitely has an effect, even when you're not getting pressured. I know much was made of Martinez overthrowing Hickman in the left flat on one play. The announcers talked about Martinez missing another target. But when they showed the replay, Martinez was having to slide left to avoid pressure and then was basically skipping away from the guy trying to grab his ankles as he was throwing. But they didn't make any mention of that. That's a far from ideal way to try to throw a pass.

  12. To me, the problem is games like Illinois: 300 total yards for Martinez and no interceptions. But for whatever reason -- and I'm a guy who predicted a great season for Adrian -- he didn't look like a good quarterback having a good game. He was a guy taking way too long to make decisions, and not operating with the precision the offense demands. And the fumble was a really bad one -- an unfocused and kinda panicky indecision that came at the worst time. Adrian's had a few too many of those games. He's a good dude with good stats, but he's not the killer-instinct leader we need. And it's weird, because he played lights out as a freshman.

  13. Do yourself a favor and look back at that statistic over the last 3-5 years. I’ll do you a favor and give you a hint: this tweet exists because of how mediocre it’s been. It’s also not “encouraging”. We have played a FCS team and a team that literally got manhandled by UTSA. Why shouldn’t this stat on its own be good? If get warm fuzzys with our play, good for you. I want Nebraska to succeed so if this stat looks this way at the end of season, and we haven’t imploded through other means, it’ll mean good things have happened.

I'm thinking that if you polled the people who wanted 6 billion fewer humans on Earth, the radical tree-huggers would be the majority, The elites are actually hugely dependent on having lots of people to buy their products and carry heavy things for them. 24. If you're a pandemic immunologist, it's pretty incumbent to be studying MERs and SARs and cross-species transmissions, as these already existed in the larger world. If you're awarding grants, this is a grant you would fund. If China is a likely source for the next outbreak -- as it has been in the past -- you encourage China to solve the problem using its considerable experience on the subject. If you don't fully trust China, you keep a pandemic team on the ground in China to observe and report --- you don't recall them as a waste of money from a previous administration. If the lab got sloppy or just unlucky, you're not afraid to look into it because that's something you need to learn. If you didn't see compelling evidence in 2020 and wanted to avoid a racial profiling of all Asians (yeah, that happened) you might make the statements Dr. Fauci made. Or you can pretend you aren't looking for headlines that undermine Dr. Fauci for pure partisan politics without reading the actual articles.

  25. Adrian averaged 1.3 TO/game coming into this season. If an entire team averaged 1.3 turnovers a game the last three years it would be mid-40s nationally. That means 40 Football teams, in their entirety (QB, RB, WR, TE, PR, KR), turn the ball over less than just AM. This is not groundbreaking stuff. AM and Verdu both acknowledged that he has to cut down the turnovers. I didn't even think this was up for debate.

  26. Fielding punts was of course atrocious yet again in this game...but I'd say all other phases of special teams this week was actually good. -We were kicking the ball into the end zone on kickoffs -Culp had a nice field goal in the first half -Dismuke blocks their field goal I still think we need to just call for fair catches on kickoffs more often than not.

  30. in slight defense of Ervin he is the starter. He played against a fresh defense and the line wasn't moving the LOS. Same thing against Illinois. Now I will admit he missed a couple holes or made a wrong read that cost him some yards. But to say hey this guy had 5 yards a carry against a tired defense of an overmatched Fordham team in the 4th quarter isn't really an apples to apples assessment

  31. It is so lame that this is a game that we are worried about. The line is -14 but would any of you be shocked if this was a 1 point game or if Buffalo just flat out won by 10?

  32. No arguments here with most of what you refer to... I just think people should realize that the QB is only a part of that. How much better would he look with even an average running game? He is a kid who is in a rough situation and yet he still seems to put a positive spin on things and is giving it 100% effort. In my eyes, he isn't the problem.

  40. Preface: I'm normally not big on dissecting what coaches say in pressers. The pressers don't really reveal any information we can't see when we just watch the games. But this is the kind of stuff I've been trying to say about Scott. He has to run plays that his players are actually good at executing. He cites "team effort," but maybe he just doesn't have the right RB and linemen to execute zone hand offs that allow our backs to average 5.5 yards per carry? Look at our YPC stats by our backs against Illinois. Then look at even the bad hand off running play against Fordham in the first quarter. IMO he just needs to be able to adjust quicker in-game when what he wants to do clearly isn't working. Pretty much ever team we play is going to stack the box and then dare Martinez to throw - so figure out a way to work the ball outside and punish that. You're not going to punish it by just smashing one of these backs into a big mixing bowl of bodies.

  41. Not at all. I'm honestly concerned. If we make the same mistakes we have made each week (made same errors against Fordham we were just that much better than them) and they play clean football we will be in trouble. We HAVE to get a push early on up front.

  42. It already has started to kill us by the thousands and soon millions. The global elite and media think they can hide this by saying that it is a "different stronger strain" as the bodies stack up. At some point it will be impossible for them to hide the truth. Trump has more blood on his hands than most dictators at this point. Big Pharma are the direct killers, but anyone and everyone who helped them roll out this death vax will also be held accountable. This includes companies that are dispensing the death vax, the media who are pushing you to get the death vax, politicians who are pushing you to get the death vax, and any organization, club, sect, religious organization, that is pressuring you or including incentives for you to get the death vax. ALL universities, employers, and anyone else who REQUIRED their students or employees to get the death vax will be financially destroyed by the avalanche of legal fall-out that is to come once the world realized that this jab is a death sentence. To say that the world is about to change dramatically, is the understatement of the history of man-kind. Only one other event tops what is about to happen and that was the birth, death, and resurrection of God incarnate as Jesus Christ for the sins of humanity and that all who believe this and proclaim it with their mouth will not die a second death, but will gain eternal life. To say that time is short for most all of us, can not be said enough. Not only is the death vax a near absolute death sentence, but if you get one of the potent strains of the bioweapon SARS virus which affects your lungs and you survive, your life span will also be dramatically reduced. What happens is that the blood capillaries in your lungs become damaged and block the flow of blood. This requires your heart to work over-time to push the blood around the lungs and into the rest of the body. Most people who have this issue die within 3 years due to right-side heart failure. This is a what is called a lose-lose situation. Get the vax and die within a few years or get the virus and also die within a few years. The ruling elite will not allow anyone to side-step the coming culling of the world populace. There is TONS of evidence that mass depopulation has been on the agenda plan of the ruling satanic elite of the world for a very long time. Why is there a massive multi-million dollar monument in a random field in Georgia that has several goals written on them in several different languages that is owned by a firm that has ties to billionaire Ted Turner (buddies with Bill 'Gates of Hell')? One of the goals listed is a world population of 500 million (what happens to the other 7.5 BILLION people?). Their evil plans out in plain sight for everyone to see. The time for being warned has passed. It is too late now. Now all we can do is wait for the inevitable to take place. EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL during the animal trials that took this mRNA death vax died within 5 years time with the majority dying by year 3. Now it is up to those who have essentially euthanized themselves to accept in their hearts and proclaim Jesus and what He did for their sins at the cross if they want more life after their body fails. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6
