  1. I'm curious why everyone is willing to throw NPR into the trash heap of biased journalism based on one person's statement. How much vetting has been done on Berliner's allegations? Here's one thread about that. These are just the first few posts. It's a long thread. Berliner does regurgitate Republican talking points that we keep seeing right here on HuskerBoard from everyone's favorite goalpost-mover. Why does someone who's apparently willing to fudge facts get so much up-front credibility?

  5. Take any random foreign intelligence operation and no way could they come up with a more comical or embarrassing disinformation campaign against the GOP then the GOP's actual day to day clown car towing a dumpster fire inside a three-ring circus s#!t show. Imagine if your job was to try to spin this comedy any other way.

  6. Those are all givens and none of them would have resulted in such a high profile conversation. Movements are blunt instruments and often have blunt instrument terminology or sound bytes. "Make the police better" does not center a nationwide conversation, just like, "Black people shouldn't be disadvantaged" or "women want equal rights as men" similarly don't really move much of a galvanizing needle. Anyone that thought Defund the Police was literal is an idiot or actively looking for a reason to be in opposition, and even those folks and the ones who disapprove of the language having a disagreeing response to it ultimately makes the intent behind the slogan successful.

  7. There’s no perfectly objective news source. AP and Reuters usually do a pretty good job. BBC too. But they all have some level of editorial influence. People need to just read varied sources and use critical thinking skills to evaluate which editorial bent might color those sources. The critical thinking part is lacking in a lot of people.

  14. BTW Red Five, thanks for the updates man. You are doing some great stuff keeping everyone updated! Thinking this is a list of guys we want most with 4 scholly's remaining. 1a- F William Kyle (JR) 1b- F/C Igor Milicic (SR) 3 C Malique Evin (JR)- if we miss on one of our top two I think he fits in here nicely. 4 G Brendan Hausen (JR) 5a G Connor Essegian (JR) 5b Depth at guard or forward - I think Fred will not take another HS player unless it is a late bloomer we find similar to Diop last year. - Outside of Milicic, it looks like we will be targeting guys with 2 or more years of eligibility left. - I still believe we can get both of Kyle and Milicic, will be interesting to see what happens. Also, still waiting to hear on Mast. - An absolute need is bench shooting and Hausen fits that role- would be a great get for us. - As I said before, it will be interesting to see how many guys may come here to possibly sit for a year and play a lot more in the coming years. - Nebraska is going for guys that fit what Fred wants to do as opposed to NIL bag getters.

  15. The context that I took from that is that he isn't expecting anyone to enter the portal before spring practice is over, not that he wasn't expecting anyone to enter the portal at all this spring. It wouldn't surprise me if we lost some OL (21 on scholarship) or DBs (24 on scholarship).

  18. The word they should have used was "reallocate," because the non-crazy people pimping "defund the police" wanted to use some of the public funds that go to police for things like first-responder mental health intervention. Basically, instead of the police having to deal with people experiencing mental health crises, trained mental health professionals would be the first responders. But "Reallocate funds currently given to law enforcement to instead be distributed to better mental health responses" isn't as catchy as "defund the police!" That's where Republicans have just run circles around Democrats, for decades now. They absolutely understand how to provide succinct, easy-to-remember phrases to their constituents that convey a clear, direct message.

  20. A few updates: Reports are we aren't getting a visit from Pharrel Payne (Minnesota) as expected later this week. We have moved on from Joshua Ola-Joseph (Minnesota). Another new name to follow as of today is Connor Essegian, a junior SG from Wisconsin. Started 19 games as a freshman, then as a sophomore was moved to a bench role and only averaged 8 mins/game. Career 35% shooter from 3. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/connor-essegian-1.html

  21. Absolutely. The good thing is that violent crime across the board has been on a downward trajectory since the 1970s. As we distance ourselves from COVID, violent crime seems to be resuming it'd downward trend. There are a lot of really dumb ideas to come out of the American left, and "defund the police" was one of the worst.

  23. It seems to me that you have grabbed the worst possible strain of narcissistic leftist agitator to represent everyone who would protest on behalf of Palestine. That allowed you to ignore the points I was making and common positions I was conceding. There was a revolutionary Marxist contingent in the Vietnam and Civil War protests, too, and they did hinder the larger movement to some extent. But they were also the folks at the ramparts who forced the conversation, and allowed the more moderate to make the stance more reasonable and ultimately mainstream. i.e. you were an idiot to have a poster of Mao in your room, but you weren't wrong about the Domino Theory. Martin Luther King benefitted from having Malcom X and the Black Panthers to his extreme left. Sounds like you don't think the conversation has shifted on Gaza, nor should it. But a disturbing common thread to Gaza, Vietnam and the Civil Rights era are the bystanders in the middle, often women and children, being killed in pretty horrific ways while people debate whether trying to stop those deaths is political posturing. If you know your history you obviously know Netanyahu's history, and why it's lazy, unserious and dangerous to support him unequivocally. It's an easy but false equivalency to think that equates to supporting Hamas. Israel itself is divided on what should happen next. If you don't think protesting college kids really care about the people of Gaza, you have at least one thing in common with them. Of course we can agree to disagree, but I still find it a worthy conversation, even with all the laughy emojis I'm getting. There's also a distinct possibility that we agree: the worst possible strain of narcissistic leftist agitator is really irritating. Now let's join hands and solve the Middle East!

  26. Sorry man, but there’s not. Simping for a terrorist organization that wants to eradicate all Jews and infidels from Earth isn’t the same as a lunch counter sit in from the 60’s. Shaping the conversation with slanted views and deliberately misleading social media propaganda isn’t terribly helpful. Of course politicians with no true skin in the game or consequences can make empty requests for a ceasefire. Has any of it worked? Is it a good faith effort or is it empty political posturing? Do they really think there’ll be one or are they just getting a sound bite on record? Did Hamas see San Francisco’s City Council resolution for a ceasefire and say to themselves “Guys, this is what we’ve been waiting for. After millenia of fighting and killing, some nameless faceless politicians from thousands of miles away says we should stop.” Hamas has repeatedly said they’ll never stop committing Oct 7th’s. How can anyone think a ceasefire is a reasonable request when that is one side of the bargaining table? It’s a lazy and unserious position. I disagree. If they don’t know the difference or need it painstakingly explained to them, then that tells me all I need to know about their position and that they aren’t serious people. Ultimately I think we can just agree to disagree on this.

  29. Sorry man, but there are nothing but common threads in this kind of activism and protest. That it hasn't yet reached the scale of Vietnam and the Civil Right movement doesn't change the motives, the players, and the public reaction. You don't have to like it. Folks back then didn't either. But it's entirely possible they've shaped the conversation. While you contend they are "shrieking about a ceasefire" they've been joined by politicians of every stripe and nation, who agree it's a more than viable option for stopping the death and starvation of innocents on a massive scale that Hamas clearly anticipated. And possibly avoiding a global escalation. The conversation has changed significantly in six months, and a lot of that wacky left stuff has gone mainstream. I don't agree with coddled self-satisfied cosplaying college protestors on plenty of things, and I go out of my way to de-romanticize their melodrama. But I do have to bring my A-game because they actually are well-versed on the history of the region. More than most. Forced to do my homework, I realized how much s#!t I'd forgotten. Or had wrong. And yeah, they didn't hesitate to bring up Yemen, either. I implore them to understand that the difference between Biden and Trump remains just massive enough to deserve their vote. It's a tough sell. Seems to me they actually do care about the Gazans, but your mileage may vary. If you think a cease fire isn't even viable, there's nowhere to go but down.

  38. I agree. This was for cheeseburger-gate and Harbaugh not cooperating because he thought it was stupid. I am surprised Michigan took the penalty since Harbaugh was suspended for 3 games for this and Moore one game, but it doesn't really hurt them. In other notes an NFL scout was asked if sign-gate would affect the draft stock of Michigan players. This was his answer. "Nobody in the NFL cares." "I've watched them play, and I've watched them physically beat the snot out of everybody up front." "I don't think there's some piece of information that's the reason why Aiden Hutchinson just put the Ohio State tackle on his backside. I don't see the connection there." "They have a bunch of NFL players, they're big, they're strong, they're physical, and they beat people up." https://www.youtube.com/shorts/v30gfDyg6cY?si=7hox5L9K4OM7BYEf

  39. Some potential other names, as some players we get will understand they will have a limited role this year to get a bigger one next year. Nothing confirming these guys, but they have connections and could end up here depending on numbers. PG Josiah Dotzler- Creighton (Does he want to develop for a year to play 2/3 years in the future?) F Gus Yalden- Wisconsin (Has ties to the state and would play a lot more in the coming years. In a similar boat as Dotzler) F Max Murrell- Stanford ( Unlikely- would be a culture fit guy similar to Coleman this year) The bolded players are the ones that would fit really well for us. Griffiths is now N! Fidler I want but doubt he accepts a bench role. If Nebraska gets Milicic and Kyle it means Mast could miss some time next season.... Joshua Ola-Joseph gives Nebraska some athleticism and depth- but does he want a bench role is the question. Nebraska is going to have to get players that will accept bench roles now for bigger roles in the future. Think Hoiberg goes to a 9 man rotation by conference play and potentially 8 man depending on who he gets.
