NUance
My wild ast guess is that they name it the Pershing Trophy for General John J. Pershing. Quote Link to comment
huKSer
Iowa message board (hawkeyenation.com) already has 54 comments on their "traveling trophy" thread. The other big 10 teams take their trophies seriously! Quote Link to comment
talaricohusker
i would like it to be called the farmagddon trophy that would be cool but some say that is already clamed but not used that often. Quote Link to comment
walksalone
Nothing about this seems forced at all. Agreed. I'm not going to raise a stink, but I'd rather have this turn into a rivalry rather than just declare it a rivalry from day one. Rivalries are something you build. you mean like the much heralded Colorado rivalry (sic) Quote Link to comment
billdozer15
WOW....the Hawk fans are in an uproar over this. We dont even know what it is going to be and they are ready to hold their AD's feet to the fire. Evidently this pseudo rivalry has their feathers ruffled. 58 posts and 4 pages of banter compared to our 20 posts. LOL. Meltdown Quote Link to comment
The Dude
As long as it pisses off the Iowegians, I'm fine with calling it The Nile Kinnick Trophy. Quote Link to comment
tmfr15
Start the series with mutual respect. Certainly we respect the legacy of Coach Fry. We hired one of his grad assistants to lead our team. The Fry coaching tree is very impressive. And Iowa officials are saying all the right things about how much they respect Nebraska. If the Friday breakfast highlights some of the common connections between the two programs and acknowledges each side while establishing a trophy, then fine. A trophy doesn't make a rivalry, but it would be some extra motivation to win the contest. Never going to amount to much more than what we had with the Missouri game, but trophies are a little bit more important in the Big 10. This also could be the start of something positive. Maybe we can have a healthy relationship between the two schools that develops into a rivalry over time. And 20 years from now, if the games are predominantly tight decisions, we'll have a rival to take the place of Oklahoma. http://huskerextra.com/sports/football/article_40ba8cb2-f8a8-5a19-8f5b-9b76b0794dc4.html Quote Link to comment
mnhusker
How about the Osborne's Nebraska Fries Iowa Trophy ........ Could say traveling Trophy but I like the Dust theme so traveling would not make sense. Quote Link to comment
corncraze
Will we get trophies with other programs as well then? Get us one for the Minnesota and Penn State games so at least it seems as more of an acceptance to the conference rather than a forced rivalry. Quote Link to comment
walksalone
how about "The only things Iowa's famous for is Radar from MASH and Buddy Holly dying here" Trophy Quote Link to comment
Hercules
I think they should be able to name it the Niles Kinnick trophy, but the little figures on top of the trophy should be Eric Crouch bulldozing that Hawkeye DB back in 1999. 1 Quote Link to comment
