True2tRA
Well, I'm glad the waiting game is finally over for everyone. Not that they announced anything that everybody didn't already know long ago. We definitely all knew that Papuchis was getting the DC job. I'm not sure what to make of this Kaczenski guy yet. We will surely find out about the coaching ability of both Pap and Kac soon. I can't say I am overly excited or impressed with either hire. I just really hope it works out in the end. Unfortunately I must say this. As long as Bo continues to hire "first time" coordinators and young and inexperienced coaches at almost every level we will all be along for the ride as these guys learn the ins and outs of the job. We have watched Bo for 4 years now as he tries to grow into his own role. He still has a lot of learning to do. With a young inexperienced Head Coach and a young inexperienced staff time will tell if the athletic department and the state of Nebraska have the patience to allow things to develop. I think I already know the answer to that. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
John Papuchis will be on Sports Nightly at 7:15. Rick Kaczenski at 8:05. Quote Link to comment
RexIsMyDogg
What you got on Larry? Like to here your opinion. I personally don't know too much about him, But heard he could coach and recruit. The bottom line ... he's a racist and one of the worst negative recruiters you'll come across. Heard he was a negative recruiter as well; didn't know the other issue Quote Link to comment
TonyStalloni
Coach Kaz's father is from Youngstown, color me not surprised. Now we know the truth! Lately if you don't have a Y-town (Cardinal Mooney) connection you won't get hired onto this staff. If a man from Youngstown wants to coach he just needs to put his shingle out and either Stoops or Pelini's will hire them. Nepotism at it's finest. Quote Link to comment

Igetbored216
Is this shocking news to anyone? Pretty predictable. Let's hope that assistants/coordinators learning on the job doesn't negatively affect the team. Quote Link to comment

I think I already know the answer to that. Read the quotes from Beck about learning on the job and having to teach the coaches and kids. Year 2 he will still be learning as will the staff. Now same on the D side, IMO. Guys cut their teeth on lower tier programs or schools in the FCS, not NU. We do not need to be a training ground for folks, especially not as a DC or IMO OC. Position coaches no worries. Again without the rose colored glasses, Beck was the guy in charge of the RB's and we had no one step up besides Rex. The others did not pan out or left. Now JP goes from DL to DC. Every other thread talked about or DL being weak, getting exploited by the run, slow DE's etc and now JP is the DC. WOW! This board has also talked about the issue of player development. How do you develop when you are learning, trying t teach your assistants and have them teach the stuff to the players. Chance to make a huge splash. Swing and a miss. In a few years, I am sure that JP and Beck might pan out. They might not. Does Bo have 3-4 years to find out? Quote Link to comment
gobiggergoredder
Commencing the fire Bo thread in 3, 2, 1... How he passed on Mike Nobler is beyond me. Epic fail Bo. Word is Nobler has the inside track on Associate Head Coach. That is, when Barney get promoted again. I have a source on the inside that says Nobler is staying with the program. Well played Bo, well played. Quote Link to comment

macroboy
Congrats to JP, a young up and coming coach who has great things ahead. Welcome Kaz, excited about your recruiting potential and track record. I'd rather have up and coming coaches than fired big names. Quote Link to comment
macroboy
and I forgot, congrats Mike Nobler, we are lucky to have kept you on this staff as long as we have! Quote Link to comment
MLB 51
JP has been with Bo for 7 years. I think he knows the D pretty well. Don't think this is going to be as bad as some think. Quote Link to comment

And other big programs have had a history of success with continually promoting from within. Oklahoma is one of the best examples, and probably an influence on how and why Bo is doing it this way. There is far less risk involved. Hopefully at the sametime you are developing loyalty within your program by giving guys a shot. Could be here a long time instead of job hopping. It reminds of a couple of years ago when Dinoco offered Lightning McQueen a pretty good deal, but he stuck with the Rusteez team. Quote Link to comment
