Blackshirts are gone.

I appreciate the honest attempt but, if you take Suh out of the equation, it all looks remarkably similar. Of course there are different players all possessing differing levels of skill and experience. Always has been and always will. And almost every snap of the ball varies in some manner. I've just seen way too much of it look the same at the end of the day and have heard the same excuses through all of it. At some point the job has to get done and the buck needs to stop with Bo.

I've said it numerous times- I like Bo. Really. His demeanor didn't bother me other than now I am pretty sure it has an adverse reaction within the team. I would've loved nothing more than for it all to work out and have him here long term. But I've passed the point of no return. I have zero belief he will ever do anything more than he has here. I appreciate the things he did fix that were demolished during the Callahan era. I just wish he showed any sign of adjusting for current conditions. He keeps trying to jam square pegs in round holes and then simply blames the peg for not being round. I've had enough of it.

I don't know if there would have been a winning scenario here for the staff had they chosen to leave them or take them.

They already lost this battle when they fundamentally changed the blackshirts from a worn emblem to live up to, to a reward/punishment system that requires action such as both this and the yearly when-will-he.

Totally agree with what JJ said. But it is what it is. Just because it's not recognizable as the blackshirt tradition of old doesn't mean it doesn't work for Bo and the team.

I hope he didn't take them away and the team elected to return them.

I was a proponent of him giving them out from the start to hopefully instill an identity and edge for the defense.

I am now a proponent of never having another blackshirt handed out until there are 11 players playing like one game in and game out.

Yes, the DTs are very important and Suh (and Dorsey) would show that to be true. It's why there was such an emphasis on the DL position the past couple of recruiting classes. We severely lacked depth on the DL last season, resulting in having to move an undersized Meredith to the interior DL......where we were already undersized to begin with. Pelini's LBs are typically tackling machines and certainly our issues on DL last season didn't help Compton's cause. This is where the emphasis on recruiting has become so important. This current group of young DL shows some reasons for optimism. I'd have to look it up, but I think Compton was not far over 100 tackles. Ruud and David were more in the 130+ range. That's the range we need to get a LB in tackles. Pelini is not a one hit wonder in this area. He's produced results at each level of the defense over the years.

I hate to be a big poohead, but I have a suspicion that many of these guys are not going to be motivated by anything. Certainly not practice jerseys.

After improved performances against Illinois and Purdue then having a bi-week you'd think they'd have been motivated for the Minn game, but practices supposedly sucked and we all saw the game. Ya, I'm not sure what gets them going.

So many jokes would fit here, I can't seem to pick one...

Just a motivation ploy. However its not like the defense at this point deserves to wear them. AT ALL. Lets not forget what it means to wear those shirts. If they want them back, then earn it.

Understand it's a shot at motivating the guys?? But how many players had them before? If the other 8-9 guys weren't motivated before they had them why would that change now?

Not meant to be directed at you Silent, I just don't understand how he is going to motivate 11 guys to get a blackshirt when it's apparent they could have cared less to begin with.

No i agree. Remember when Pelini first got here and took the shirts away? Everyone was excited saying the team had to earn them. I just really think the defensive woes are starting to take a toll on husker nation. We all just want a decent defense thats has some balls and stoppes the run. Is that too much to ask?
