If/when we finally dump Read, will we get the added benefit of losing the circus stunt, elementary school sand lot trickery bs we try when we lineup for a PAT?

Is that a Riley thing or is it a Read thing? So sick of that. Lineup and kick the goddamn extra point like it's the automatic point it's supposed to be. Riley mentioned having 12 on the field for a punt return makes us look junior high. Well that lineup wide PAT is crap we would've been embarrassed to try as 10 year old kids. Is this really D1 college ball worthy?

The ST lines up like that to make the opponents have to spend an hour or so preparing for it. If they do not prepare for it we will burn them like we did against fresno that one time. Darlington has some speed and I do not mind it, and elementary kids would not be able to do this that easily. So all in all I do not mind it at all, as long as we are forcing teams to prepare for it.

This. As a defensive coach absolutely hate having to take the time to prepare our guys for this!!

I guess I'm just old fashioned.

Prepare your own team, control the line of scrimmage, act like you belong and have done it before and just line up and kick the extra point.

There's a reason the trickeration aspect was utilized, once, against Fresno St and nobody else. Sorry, I just think it makes our whole program look gimmicky. That isn't the level I would like to see us competing at and we sure shouldnt need it against the only teams it would ever work on.

Would people say the same things about Black 41 Flash Reverse, fumblerooski, etc., or are those different somehow?

Does Reed even recruit? I cannot remember him being the main recruiter on anyone but probably Jordan Ober, and he's a freaking longsnapper. An important job, but any Nebraska walk-on would love to do it.

He recruited Lightbourn....which gotta hand it to Read he found the one guy in the nation who could punt for negative yardage.

In all honesty, our special teams have not been a factor for many years now (even back in the Pelini era). I can't remember many special plays done by our special teams. May be I can remember three good returns over the past six years. This special teams coach, especially, is robbing the state of Nebraska blind. His salary is definitely not justified. He cost us the first seven points of the game, and his special teams have never blocked a punt or done anything to help us win a game. The only extraordinary thing his teams did is manage to net a negative yardage on a punt. A thing I did not think was possible before Saturday. It does not seem like these teams are learning any techniques. Every time we punt, I hold my breath and hope for the best. More than 90% of the opponents' punts are either fair caught or we let them go into the end zone. In the Ohio State game, a player fielded a kick that was heading into the sideline. Instead of getting the ball at the 35 yard line, we got the ball at the 11 yard line. If that is coaching, I would hate to see what the players would do without coaching.

Sadly, I do not see Mike Riley the type to fire a coach. I really hope that is not the case. I do not think our players are to blame. They need to be properly coached and this coach is not getting it done. Simple as that.

A few things that are horribly incorrect, coded by bolded number above:

1. DPE led the nation in punt return yardage two years ago.

2. Alex Henery was literally the best kicker in the history of the NCAA when he exhausted his eligibility.

3. Sam Foltz was the B1G Punter of the Year last season.

4. Mike Riley fired a coach after his FIRST SEASON.

However, I do think we are overpaying for a ST coordinator who performs like this.

Thanks for proving my point. We have individual players that have been consistent. I definitely agree with you that Alex Henry, Sam Foltz, and Drew Brown have been consistent but when was the last time we blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. When was the last time we got a safety? When was the last time our special teams dominated a game. I agree that we have special players but over the past two years, our special teams have not been dominant. But I do agree that we have had some special punters and kickers but we have always had that at Nebraska. Special Teams though imply more than one or two players. I did forget about Hank Hughes. I apologize. I was wrong. I hope Bruce Read follows suit.

Do you watch a lot of football? Like current football? How often do you think these things happen? Listen, I agree we need an upgrade if we are paying this amount of money. However, don't judge him on your ridiculous criteria.

Maybe we start by not being penalized once a game for procedure on special teams. Even though Read has sucked all year, and I agree he has, Banker said the 12 man penalty was on the defense. The punt return team wasn't even on the field. They ran on DPE and nobody ran off.

I think Read is a waste of money as well, but at least make sense when you try to make a point.

There is absolutely no need to be condescending. I did not attack you in any way. I am simply stating that our special teams have not been that special. I grew up in Nebraska and I went to UNL for 7 years during the time when Nebraska was the Alabama of today. So yes, I do watch a lot of football and I know what it means to be a husker. I am more than happy to debate with you without the condescending tone. If that is the only way you can get your point through then please keep it to yourself.
