Adam Clark, the longtime director of football operations for former Minnesota and Northern Illinois coaches Jerry Kill and Tracy Claeys, joined the Huskers this spring. He takes over many of the duties previously handled by Dan Van De Riet, who was promoted this spring to associate athletics director of football administration and will oversee both the operations and recruiting departments.

Van De Riet’s base salary is $203,430 — second-highest among NU’s non-coaches behind executive director of player personnel Billy Devaney, who makes $300,000.

Is there a reason Nebraska seems to pay so pathetically compared to their peers?

You would think one of the ways to help equalize our recruiting disadvantage would be to excel in some other areas. Guess not.

 

Edit- Let me specify, the pay is not necessarily pathetic but when compared to the Michigans, Ohio States, Bamas etc., it seems like an area where we could level or better the playing field.

We are still paying Bo a lot of money ($1.8 million per year until 2019) that could be given to the staff.

Tom nor his assistants got paid sh#t compared to others. Thats why we got so far behind. We thought we could only afford coaches who would work for what Tom and his guys did. Your not gonna see that kind of loyalty for crumbs anymore.

We're not top 1%, but especially compared to how frugal we were UNDER Osborne as AD, we've been ponying up the cash for recruiting and for assistants more and more each year. Bob Diaco is the highest paid assistant in program history.

While I'd prefer to not be like that, if that's what it takes to keep up with the Jones' and be competitive, so be it. It's the current state of CFB and it's only going to get worse.
