  1. I absolutely cannot stand this "Nebraska's stuck in the past and needs to accept it's an average program now" stuff. It's specious and surface-level and completely devoid of any context or history so that it can make points the authors want to make. No reasonable fan thinks the 90s are ever coming back but with the resources and money this place has it's still a good program and job that can still be winning 8 or 9 games consistently if it has competent people and systems in place. We consistently delivered top 25 teams less than a decade ago and Frost has signed nothing but top 25 classes, so this "They can't sign recruits anymore!" stuff is bologna. Rittenberg can eat my shorts.

  2. I will never understand why Husker fans are so upset about a sport being canceled at a different school.

  3. I appreciate everyone’s summation of the article, because I’m not giving Rittenberg another click.

  4. The problem is people can't separate health care from politics. I work in health care, when someone asks me about the vaccine, I tell them the same thing, "talk to your doctor". Pretend you are getting advice on a shoulder injury or a rash or fatigue. You'd go talk to a doctor. If Biden or Trump affected your decision on putting a rx cream on your ball rash, you'd be a weirdo.

  5. She said she wouldnt get a vaccine that Trump told her to take. So I guess she only meant one that he made in his basement and delivered to her. How does she think vaccines get approved for public use? The president? No she knew exactly what she was saying. I watched the interviews I watched the debates etc. It was blatantly obvious they were doing everything they could to discredit the vaccines to take points away from Trump. We really cant all agree with that? Really?

  6. "If the doctors tell us that we should take it, I'll be the first in line ... but if Donald Trump tells us that we should take it, I'm not taking it." (Kamala says here she would and wouldnt take it) Again it is all politics but how do people honestly not see that during the election the Dems tried to discredit the possibility of a vaccine by tying it to Trump? Like that was a real thing people.

  8. Kamala and Joe told me not to get the shot during the election. They said it couldnt be trusted. Now it is the safest thing in the world since they won. The issue here is both sides from the get go should have had a unified message around getting vaccinated. Put country above politics and it didnt happen so now here we are.

  9. From the article: "The question is how much of Nebraska's struggles can be attributed to joining the Big Ten, and how much can be tied to internal reasons. To find out, ESPN spoke to people in and around Nebraska's program since the Big Ten arrival." I can't read beyond that to get Rittenberg's interviews, but honestly, it's almost all internal. We're on our fourth Athletic Director and third coach in ten seasons since joining the conference. We have no continuity, we're constantly tearing down and rebuilding, and we have terrible roster churn. Contrast that with the teams we're trying to beat for our division: Wisconsin - three head coaches. Iowa - one head coach. Northwestern - one head coach.

  10. So it seems as if, based on what people are saying here, under circumstances largely out of his control Alberts made and followed through on a tough and unpopular decision that ended up proving ultimately to be very beneficial for the athletics department? And some people are mad about it? Like if you were a big-time UNO football or wrestling head I completely get being upset, but otherwise I'm having a hard time understanding how this is supposed to be a bad thing or reason for concern.

  11. But if things don't start to turn around pronto we'll be recruiting at a top 50 level. Kind of a cascade effect. That's an even bigger problem. IMHO we are starting to see this with the current class.

  12. AM's rushing EPA has been close to Elite. His passing EPA has been 7th, 9th, 9th in the B1G the last 3 years. Passing Yards per Game he has been 4th, 8th, 12th in the B1G. Obviously it's not all on AMs shoulders but inability to move the ball downfield through the air has been an issue. A really good rushing QB, who has been beaten to a pulp and has the injuries to show it. If our weapons on offense can get us looking like that peak 2018 offense, combined with this defense - we will 7+ games, ceiling even higher than that.

  13. it is brought up because it was one of the first steps in the distrust over the messaging from the feds. The populace is told one thing and then it is backtracked. Origins of the virus are another. I hope what people are doing is speaking to their primary care doctor to determine if they should get the vaccine or not. Fauci doesnt know you, Trump, Joe etc dont know you. Talk to your doctor.

  14. As I recall, Fauci did not say people shouldn't be wearing masks because of PPE shortage. He gave that as a reason after the fact. He deserves criticism for that. That being said....people really need to stop bringing up what was said early in the pandemic as an excuse to do whatever they want right now.

  15. I kinda jump in and out of here from time to time, but seeing as how this is a subject that I'm quite passionate about, let me throw my two cents in, here... The former President of the United States has an aversion to sensible, safe, effective, scientific study in the field of vaccination and public health measures. This is what he did most of January and February of 2020: Jan. 22, 2020 “We have it totally under control. It’s one person coming in from China. It’s going to be just fine.” Jan. 24, 2020 Trump praises China’s handling of the coronavirus: “China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus. The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency. It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People, I want to thank President Xi!” Jan. 28, 2020 “This will be the biggest national security threat you face in your presidency...This is going to be the roughest thing you face" Trump’s National Security Advisor to Trump Jan. 30, 2020 "The lack of immune protection or an existing cure or vaccine would leave Americans defenseless in the case of a full-blown coronavirus outbreak on US soil,...This lack of protection elevates the risk of the coronavirus evolving into a full-blown pandemic, imperiling the lives of millions of Americans.” [Memo from Trump Trade Advisor Peter Navarro] Feb. 2, 2020 “We pretty much shut it down coming in from China.” Feb. 7, 2020 “It’s also more deadly than even your strenuous flu... This is deadly stuff” [Trump in a private interview with Bob Woodward from The Washington Post made public on Sept. 9, 2020] Feb. 10, 2020 “I think the virus is going to be—it’s going to be fine.” Feb. 10, 2020 “Looks like by April, you know in theory when it gets a little warmer, it miraculously goes away.” Feb. 24, 2020 “The Coronavirus is very much under control in the USA… the Stock Market starting to look very good to me!” Feb. 25, 2020 “CDC and my Administration are doing a GREAT job of handling Coronavirus.” Feb. 25, 2020 “I think that's a problem that’s going to go away… They have studied it. They know very much. In fact, we’re very close to a vaccine.” Feb. 26, 2020 “The 15 (cases in the US) within a couple of days is going to be down to close to zero.” Feb. 26, 2020 “We're going very substantially down, not up.” Feb. 26, 2020 “Well, we're testing everybody that we need to test. And we're finding very little problem. Very little problem.” Feb. 26, 2020 "This is a flu. This is like a flu." Feb. 27, 2020 “It’s going to disappear. One day, it’s like a miracle, it will disappear.” Mind you, while the former president was making his statement on Jan 24, 2020, my wife was hospitalized with chills, low grade fever, shortness of breath, loss of taste and smell, light fluid on the lungs - all while she was going through chemotherapy for breast cancer. The former President was hospitalized himself with COVID in October of 2020, and probably knew he had it no less than a few days prior - after exposing everyone at the Debates to COVID as well. The first REPORTED COVID Death was March 2nd, 2020, but we know that deaths attributed to COVID happened weeks prior to this. So the true toll of this deadly disease may be vastly understated. So - anybody that tries to come with some smoke about ANYBODY being critical about the former President - just look at this list, and then remember the number 606,618. That is the current number of people who have died because of lies, laziness, ineptitude, arrogance, and sheer and utter stupidity with one man leading the group. It was like he was in charge of a group on the Oregon Trail, was left a ton of provisions by the folks who paved the way for him before, but he then said, "I don't like the last guy, so I'm getting rid of ALL those provisions, cause, Obama." Then, he started on the trail in Independence, Missouri (ironically, the birthplace of Harry Truman, who said, "The Buck Stops Here.."), got 1/2 way to Oregon, and most everybody but his people died of....dysentery because he brought more clothing on the trip than food and other needed items. His people get rescued and taken to Oregon, and he blames the whole thing on the Store Keeper (who tried to advise him), the former Leader (who left him provisions), and everyone else.

  17. Whoa. Why aren't you giving trump the same grief you gave "Kamala and Joe" Mr. neither sides? trump was applying political pressure to them to approve the vaccine before testing was complete, and accusing the FDA of delaying approval. Harris responded to that by saying any vaccine rushed by trump wouldn't be trustworthy - and she was right. trump made the vaccine political because he was behind in the polls. You claim to be "neither side." But you are blaming "Kamala and Joe" for "making it political" and completely ignoring trump's actions leading up to that.

  18. Just keep twisting words for an agenda. Fact is, neither she nor Joe ever said they wouldn't take the vaccine.

  19. "Right now, in the United States, people should not be walking around with masks, There's no reason to be walking around with a mask." When you're in the middle of an outbreak, wearing a mask might make people feel a little bit better and it might even block a droplet, but it's not providing the perfect protection that people think that it is." This came from his right wing propaganda interview on 60 minutes.

  22. both sides consistently do it. In this instance from both sides of the aisle including Fauci etc. you ended up with flip flopping over and over and over again and a large portion of the populace has lost all trust in these opinions from all sides.

  23. Well, I don't agree with that take. Harris was definitely playing politics, but it was clear she meant she wouldn't take something just because Trump said it was safe. Remember this wasn't long after Trump promoted HCQ without clinical evidence and "joked" about disinfectants. But even if she did mean it the way that you're suggesting, why does that translate to not taking the vaccine now? Why wouldn't you encourage people to take it to spite Harris for being a dumbass?

  24. But then there's teams like Ohio State in the other division who have had 3 head coaches and 1 interim since we joined. Contrasted with Michigan and Michigan State who each had 2 (Hoke's first season was our inaugural as well), or Penn State with 4. Only one of those teams has been consistently good and they've had as much turnover as us.

  26. Seems like a stretch?!?! Trump literally released a statement about it. A statement you said you read? I never claimed it would be successful. But I also thought America would reluctantly elect Hillary in a 80-20 landslide considering her opponent. It took 2016 for me to realize most Americans would rather see the other party fail than America succeed.

  27. They don’t want Biden admin to be successful. Normally we’d be talking about rising taxes or gas prices. instead they are using the failure to reach a goal as evidence of poor leadership. Not enough people are going to die to sway the next election. That’s a bit over dramatic. But having a pretty big “talking point” could sway enough voters. But if only a few Americans die because these folks need political points, I’d hope we all agree that it’s a few Americans too many. This should be a “all hands on deck” effort, but sadly Trump doesn’t want to help if he can’t get all the credit. And his loyalists are happy to put forth gross efforts to make him look better in any way possible.

  31. It is like this, think back to HS Think of the top 5 hottest girls in your school...Now think of the top 50 hottest girls in your school. Big drop off...NU has to start getting recruits close to the top 5 instead of the 37th.

  32. I’ll buy this. Been saying for years finishing 23rd in recruiting, typically behind lots of other BIG schools, and then having key recruits leave or be busts is not winning any division championships. Don’t expect big results unless we are top of the division in recruiting.

  33. Oh and add in some good luck, I swear NU has had some bad luck the last few years!

  34. i remember early on that there was a shortage of masks. i checked my masks and saw they matched what the healthcare workers needed so i donated to a doctors office because of the shortage. it was fauci saying we needed to donate them to the healthcare workers that motivated me to donate them. maybe that is why i remember the reason people were asked to not wear them at first.

  35. There isnt a quote where she directly tells people not to take the shot. However by telling people not to trust Trump on a vaccine you are discrediting the very thing you are currently pushing. It is one piece of the entire messaging error that took place. First with Trump and Fauci being on totally different pages too many times, then the mixing of politics into it to score points (Where Joe and Kamala come into play) and now the oh hey its all good. It was poorly done all around. That is what I am trying to say.
    2 points
  36. No, the one where she told you not to take the shot. The quote you posted is not what you're saying here.

  37. She said she wouldn't take it just because Trump said it was safe. She said she WOULD take it when scientists said it was safe. Republicans continue to twist these words around to be something they weren't.

  38. fauci said masks would probably help...but we needed all we had for the front line workers so no mask mandate for the public at first. the right wing propaganda has spun that to no need to wear masks at all.
    2 points
  39. I would say that people arent taking it because of overall terrible messaging from the federal government and health officials at that level. It couldnt have come from a lab in china. oh wait! dont wear a mask it wont help, wait do wear a mask, wear two masks etc. Mixing politics and health has been a flop in regards to proper messaging. The beautiful part is im not on either side....so which side am I referencing

  42. More thoughts on Cuba from the author and creator of the 1619 project. "The most equal multi-racial country in our hemisphere, it would be Cuba," Hannah-Jones said, as reported by the publication. "Cuba has the least inequality between Black and white people anyplace really in the hemisphere. I mean, the Caribbean, most of the Caribbean it's hard to count because the White population in a lot of those countries is very, very small. A lot of those countries are run by Black folks. But in places that are truly at least biracial countries, Cuba actually has the least inequality. And that's largely due to socialism—which I'm sure no one wants to hear."
