Not sure the best place to put this, but I just talked to someone that works where Ochaun is working out preparing for the draft. He said he is making gains way faster compared to everyone else and the trainers are laughing about how bad our strength staff must have been. I'm sure that's common in a lot of industries to call out the previous work as shoddy but a lot of smoke that the previous staff was meh.

I agree with you that companies have layoffs way too early and many times didn’t need to do them and instead ride out the tough times, but you most certainly can measure performance in most jobs.

Classic Archy: get debunked? Create a strawman! I'm not claiming a specific way the grid went down. The fact it's not the same cause as the last times the grid went down doesn't change the criticism. Abbott (or any of the Texas politicians) could have addressed the previous ways the grid went down or even used some fore thought about other ways the grid could go down and then set about looking at ways to prevent those things from happening. I mean, you could argue Abbot or the other politicians couldn't have foreseen ice storms causing branches to down power lines, but that's pretty weak since as you point out it has happened elsewhere.

Yes, I'm aware of this. Nothing about this changes the outcomes that Texas power grid keeps failing during cold weather events. I'm totally fine with criticizing any politicians that are not trying to solve this problem regardless of party. By all means, show us what those politicians have or haven't done. Abbott (and the state government) can pass laws requiring the power companies (or others) to take different actions. Yes, the state could pass laws requiring tree management near power lines (example). The state could also pass laws for burying power lines where ice storms are likely to down power lines or bury existing power lines that get downed by an ice storm, which Abbott could be proposing right now in order to prevent this from happening again.

This is a really good interview by Bob Wachter with Ashish Jha, the White House Covid Response Director, on where we are at with Covid funding, research, vaccine and treatment development, testing, when to wear masks, long Covid, etc. Jha has always been very pragmatic about his approach to mitigation steps based on science. One thing that stood out in the interview is you could see his frustration with Congress and their lack of funding for next generation vaccines particularly the mucosal and pan-SARS vaccines. There will be another coronavirus that jumps to humans in the future, it's only a matter of when not if. These types of vaccines would most likely reduce the chances that the world goes through what we have been going through the past three years. But the anti-science, anti-vax mouth breathers like MTG and Desantis are driving the bus and slurping up disinformation simply to please their intellectually challenged base. It's worth the hour to listen to this interview. The first 15 or 20 minutes are more about the politics in DC that JHA deals with. The rest of the interview deals more with where we are at now in dealing with Covid as a society. I know 2023 is the Year of the Ostrich and everyone is done with Covid. If that's you then move on. Unfortunately, a virus doesn't give a f#&% about that.

You make a semi-good post for once and then can’t help yourself but to put this BS in there. 1) as far as funding goes, blame the Democrats if you want to froth about it as they have been in charge of the House since Covid hit and this past fiscal year Omnibus had Nancy in charge. 2) DeSantis’s FL has vaccinated over 90% of its senior population, the population that encompasses almost 80% of the deaths from Covid.

Found this topic a few pages back from the current topics. It seemed to be the best option to pitch my b!^@h. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). This where you apply for and manage US DOT numbers. I had a business partner that saw fit to register our (now my) company for US DOT back in 2002. I never had to deal with it before and I never agreed that we needed DOT as we have never done the things you actually need DOT for. So after receiving 3rd party notices about some required biennial update for the last 7 years, I finally decided it was time to deactivate our unused and unneeded US DOT account. Should be fairly simple, right? Uuuhhh no. First thing I did was look up our DOT number to discover they have the wrong “Legal Name” for our company. It isn’t currently and never has been what the FMCSA seems to think it is. So anyway, I fill out the 3 page form to deactivate our account following their instructions perfectly. I check the box for “out of business notice” exactly as instructed to do even though we are not out of business. I thought that was weird because they could easily have another box to simply deactivate the account. Then for the Legal business name I list the legal name they have us listed as and I put the actual business name in the DBA (doing business as) spot to be thorough. Well they rejected the filing because they don’t allow you to list an LLC as a DBA. So I just resubmitted the form using their incorrect legal name and listed no DBA. It didn’t feel right but apparently is what our government wants. We’ll see. I give it about a 20% of being accepted this time because the legal name, they are forcing me to use, does not match to our EIN (employer identification number). Why does everything our government touches have to be so f#&%ing hard?

Love me some Trey Palmer, and he will be in the league. I don't see him as a slot "short possession" WR. I see him as a downfield mismatch, and that might only be 3-6 plays a game, regardless if the ball finds him or not. He's got blazing speed and can catch it down field. But also, he is good with bubble screens. My fair criticism of him is that he can't do underneath stuff because he doesn't catch the mid-range passes that need to be caught. I don't know if it's because there is traffic in the middle of the field that get's into his head, knowing he could be/might be hit. But we all seen it this year, and him having alligator arms on basic mid-level routes. So I don't think that whoever drafts him will put him in that position. Running a quick screen or all-out downfield skinny post is in his wheelhouse. The NFL will do that with him. He will get drafted, be on a team, have a role, and can be happy with it. Even if it's a designated small role.

They didn't and there are a ton of examples of it. But it gets exaggerated because they weren't allowed to for a year and a half during COVID. And it's fun to tell stories with a bad guy.
