I agree with everything you said except for the bolded. We absolutely need to be picky. All voters should be educated and picky about who deserves their votes.

If you see us finishing 19-25, why is Athlon “high AF” to put us at 19? Polls are supposed to show how good a team is compared to the other teams. It means they think Nebraska will be the 19th best team this season. If Nebraska ends up at 19-25, the people who had us unranked at the beginning were the wrong ones.

Alright so I've been thinking about this most of the morning and we have to remember this is "Huskers Online" interviewing him so of course he's going to talk up Nebraska.. He's not going to do an interview and be like "Yeah they're alright" or "Yeah they're in my top 3"... He's going to build them up just as he would if he were being interviewed by ASU, or USC interviewer..Him and his big/little cousin would be a HUGE pick up but I don't know if that video is 1000% proof that he's N. JMO..

Sounds like a Nebraska lean to me. Talked glowingly about Nebraska and the other 2 seemed like an after thought. USC yeah had family ties there Arizona yeah its close to home.

FWIW it seems like the first major 2020 domino to fall is Warren. I've heard a lot about her flaws, but from what I've heard of her positions she sure is supporting a lot of good stuff. I'm all about someone that's going to say enough is enough with bowing on bended knee to big business and wealthy donors. I like how she's going out of her way to point out how she actually strongly believes in capitalism, with government playing a vital intervening role, rather than being branded a raging socialist like a lot of people no doubt assume her to be. And I REALLY don't care if some people think she's screechy or too shrill. After watching Trump comport himself like a pre-teen girl over the past two years anyone could be 1000x more presidential than what we've got now. I'm not going to be picky. Probably not my favorite but glad she's getting in.

Good back and forth here. I'll just say I think everyone here made good points. Trump is the ugly, overt realization of the dog whistles the GOP has utilized for decades to get elected, even the "good ones' like Reagan who enjoyed broader political appeal. But Trump himself doesn't represent conservatism, he merely co-opted it for his own purposes. I prefer to just think of it as Trumpism, which incorporates certain conservative policy positions. You CAN be a conservative without supporting Trump. The problem is I'm not sure you can successfully be a Republican without doing so. @TGHusker@BigRedBuster I for one don't expect these actual conservatives who criticize Trump to suddenly vote like flaming lefties. I expect them to vote like conservatives. It's just disappointing seeing time after time when we get party line votes to keep Trump's taxes secret from the country or not even let a Mueller protection bill get to the floor. Republicans refuse to act as a check on Trump and instead serve as lap dogs to protect him at every opportunity. Hence America opted for the only available recourse and removed a bunch of Republicans from political office last November.

NU has had 2 close games where difference in free throw shooting has mattered. One time, NU won with the help of strong FT shooting, and one time NU lost after poor FT shooting. That is going to happen. If NU loses more games this year as a result of their FT shooting, then it will be an issue, but nobody can make that distinction right now.

I did notice. And it's a big reason why I don't trust the GOP. I'm for universal healthcare. I'm for green energy and an aggressive approach to climate change. I'm for rebuilding our infrastructure. I'm for a lot of things that cost a lot of money. I'm also okay for raising taxes and making cuts to pay for them. I just don't get why Dems think the words "raise taxes" is a dirty word. If we citizens are getting something for our money (like a planet to live on) it should seem like a "steal". I think most families would be ecstatic to pay $5000 a year in taxes to pay for healthcare instead of the $12000 they pay to private companies in the forms of premiums and deductibles. American people aren't all dumb. Lay out the problems. Lay out the math. Lay out the benefits. Maybe I have too much faith in Americans....

I am approaching 40 and have never played organized basketball in my life, yet I can walk into a gym today and hit 65% of my free throws (after warming up of course). I would expect Division 1 basketball players to do better than that at the line on a consistent basis. I often find it hard to criticize college athletes when they give their all, as they are able to do things athletically that I simply have never been able to do even on my best days. But when the simple/fundamental things directly lead to a loss, it is frustrating.

It sure sounds crazy, and comes across as crazy, but going forward without taking absolutely drastic and immediate steps - HUGE steps, like, tomorrow - to combat climate change is infinitely more crazy. We are at 11:59 on that doomsday clock. Right now.

They're called "FREE" throws for a reason. They should be almost automatic. It is always a big frustration for me when a player isn't good at shooting free throws. Quite honestly, it's laziness in not willing to put the time in doing something so mundane in the gym to get good at it. If you're playing at this level, you should be able to do it with eyes closed.....literally.

But it's not claiming everything has and always was about trump for Republicans. Krugman was saying that in order to get elected they played to the same base of people that love him and see nothing wrong with what he does. How "principled" and "moral" can you claim to be if that is the bargain you've struck as a party for the last 50 years? What ends justify the means in order to push your legislative agenda?

That's been the SEC's bread and butter for years. They will often start with most of the conference being ranked, including half the top ten. Then when they start beating each other early in the season, the winner gets an extra boost for beating a ranked team. By the time the dust clears, most of these SEC teams have 4-5 losses but the top of the conference has a buoyed reputation by running a gauntlet of ranked teams at the time.

Two different times, actually. When did Tom Osborne coach somewhere he didn't have a great chance of winning almost every single game? I was disagreeing with your comment about players should be automatic in making their free throws. That was your lazy post. I also commented that I think we should see if the FT misses cause more than one loss before overreacting, because NU also won a close road game with strong FT shooting.

Long term there's a chance of a payoff here. If we actually are undergoing political realignment, being the party of actual fiscal responsibility instead of just portraying yourself that way like the GOP does could further push suburban Americans further toward the Dems. But if they're just temporarily bailing on the GOP due to Trump, it wouldn't really serve any long-term interest. Ultimately I think them voting against it and having their voices in Congress is a very good thing. Having more leftists voices in Congress could wind up more like the Parliamentary system other countries use where Greens constitute their own bloc but not a big enough one to govern without forming a coalition with others. I would love a system like that. Ultimately I'm cool with them pushing the Dems leftward because while I still think America is a rather moderate country, our politics have drifted further right than I'm comfortable with and while the Dems are center-left they're much more center than left at this point.

Yes, NU shot 65% in one game. It's going to happen over a long season. NU has had 2 close games this season which came down to the final possession. One game was won (Clemson) with the help of strong FT percentage, and one game was lost by a poor FT percentage.

That's it right there. The number of Americans who think through these issues and vote in the best long-term interest of the country is sadly outnumbered.
