  1. Do you think the European Union has pulled the bandaid off slowly, Halltip? Because they're getting back to normal life while we're going backwards. Difference is, they didn't politicize this, they listened to their experts, they had broad national plans in place and they're going to have sports and low deaths as a result. And they're not going to have American tourists, at least not until we get this under control. America has 25% of all known worldwide deaths to this disease. Maybe we should stop presuming we know everything and learn from the rest of the world.

  3. I still think most of Martinez's regression last year was due to a drop off in the players around him. But not all of it...

  4. Dude this is so wrong. Stop spreading this crap. Mask wearing absolutely makes a difference. You want sports back, wear a mask. Anyone want to provide a decent argument against mask wearing, I'm all ears; let's hash it out. But a decent argument against wearing masks doesn't exist, so I won't hold my breath.

  5. I must have misunderstood Frost during his recent interview presser as I thot he said that UNL would NOT be revealing positive test results at all. Next thing is he is doing just that. The thot of any more of those virus task force pressers or daily updates just nauseates me. I have had more than a lifetime’s worth already by mayors, governors, whitehouse, etc etc. After 6 months, the world’s “experts” know very little, report inaccurate or misleading information, contradict one another on seemingly basic “science“ and report no real progress in the fight vs the virus. None of this is surprising as the flu (all corona virus infections) are almost unbeatable by modern meds. The good news, although never reported as such, is this bug rarely kills the patient (1 / 200). Infection #s climbing exponentially while deaths flattening says the spread has continued unabated. The mitigation (social distancing, masks, shutdowns, etc) did not work to stop it - only prolong the economic and social pain and suffering. Quarantine works well if seriously imposed. The experts refused and the result is pandemic. The flu is a fact of life, no matter what they call it, life must go on. Lets get back to living it.

  6. What does that have to do with anything. Those people should wear masks too. Im not saying stop living your life. I'm saying wear a f#&%ing mask. I don't care if you're protesting, getting a colonoscopy, buying bottle rockets, throwing tomatoes at protesters, shopping for blowup dolls - wear a mask while doing it.

  7. And we've reached the root of the problem, you refuse to believe anything that doesn't also support your views. I change my mind often when presented with facts and science. It's a pretty cool way to live, you should try it.

  8. And herein lies the problem (yet again): if people would park their selfishness and wear a mask for the good of their communities, we would mitigate the spread and be able to go back to a semi-normal lifestyle without spreading the disease as far as we have. It's that simple. If you want football this fall (or anything normal, for that matter), put on a damn mask.

  9. Case counts are going up because the virus continues to spread and never stopped spreading. testing continues to increase as fast as the new cases increase. the shutdown of parts of the economy may have slowed the spread temporarily but only for maybe 30-45 days. It is everywhere already. All the horses have long since left the barn so keeping the door closed (or shutting it again), wont do any good. At this point herd immunity has to be the goal and before the next flu season hits this fall when the two combine to increase death rates for both. The symptoms are so similar as well. Hospitals will be hit with patients who then are very sick from both at same time.

  10. If this thread has taught me anything it's that some people will create their own facts and pick and choose what they want to believe. The overwhelming evidence is that masks help limit the spread yet we have our own bunch of Einsteins that want to dispute that regardless how many times they're told and no matter what experts have to say about it. It's pure lunacy. I guess I shouldn't blame the idiots who spout this nonsense. In a way it isn't totally their own fault. Our society has made it virtually impossible to separate fact from fiction. There are way too many supposed news sources and way too many people in charge that thrive on bad information because it serves their ulterior motives. But I still won't cut anyone any slack that can't see the common sense in the good wearing a mask provides. It's so simple it hurts. If fewer of an infected persons respiratory droplets get out, anyone with a heartbeat should be able to figure out the benefit. Yet here we are, clowns to the left of me and jokers to the right. It's maddening.

  11. I spell thot that way because its shorter. lol I dare say I have researched aplenty. The problem is much of the reported research fails to answer the vital questions. And the data is all over the spectrum on both sides of the points and little is useful. Death counts are dubious. Total “case” numbers are hopefully reasonably close to positive diagnosed persons but are used to indicate the number of infections. Not likely close at all. How many hospitalizations have there been? Not reported apparently. True death rate - unknown but much lower than reported. True origin date or source of the virus? Unknown though many suspect a lab in China. Probably first illness from the virus Oct - nov 2019. Safe businesses - Walmart, chain grocers and C stores, govt agencies, contractors small & large, police and fire, a few medical facilities. some others as well. Fast food chains. Too deadly to be open - bars, restaurants, myriad other mom&pops, schools, churches, beaches, parks, etc etc etc. All these closings were surely based on well established science. Or maybe not. Fauci science of masks, worn by medicals for many decades, no benefit for a time and magically now they are great. Why believe anything else he says when other Drs with equal credentials say the opposite.

  12. He's full of s#!t. It's less effective than a surgical or n95 mask; but still filters a non-zero % of droplets (I've seen even as high as north of 50% in studies). It also disrupts flow, so when you cough, sneeze or talk, droplets don't fly 60 f#&%ing feet across the room.

  13. Other than you're non-educated opinion on the spread of viruses; and thinking mask wearing won't reduce cases/deaths/hospitalizations from Covid. Any other reason you won't wear a thin laying over your mouth and nose when your out in about? Do you hate your neighbors? Old man Johnson next door have tree limb over your yard, maybe little covid will teach him a lesson. Look, maybe you want to sacrifice a couple thousand people to have football this year, but maybe those people don't want to sacrifice themselves. Wear a mask.

  14. That's exactly what we suggest. If 80%+ of people wore a mask like they do in Asia and Europe the R naught of the virus likely drops below 1 meaning it will no longer spread as effectively and eventually die down. Pair that with testing and tracing and we can keep thousands from dying. The experts are very confident we have a vaccine by early 2021 that is at least somewhat effective. If we wear a mask to slow the spread for another 6 freaking months then we likely have a vaccine and this all slows down long term and the vaccine likely reduces deaths even further. And how is that bad? You wear a mask which is asking very little considering we shut down our entire country and it slows it down until we get more treatments and vaccines. Even if the vaccines fail, there is a high liklihood who have really effective antibody treatments in the next two months. Texas is already reporting full hospitals and ICUs as is Arizona and Florida is approaching it quickly. That will happen across the country if we "get this crap over with" and thousands will die unnecessarily because doctors have to decide who to save.

  15. Uh wear one until a vaccine develops or at the very least an effective treatment plan is in place. Vaccine should be available by 2021. If it's not here in 2021 we can revisit this. But when they're projecting mask wearing to save 33,000 lives by October. You're mindset is like me raw-dogging strippers and not wrapping up, because "Gonna get an AIDS eventually, might as well not delay it". Have some decency and common sense. We have a saying in the medical field; prevention is better than a cure.

  16. You should take a look at what other countries have done. English Premiere League is already playing again. The reason football might not be played is because we have failed to contain the virus and continue to fail at it. None of what's happening in America was necessary, and we have dozens of other countries to look at for what is working.

  22. HERD IMMUNITY, HERD IMMUNITY, HERD IMMUNITY! I WANNA DO WHAT I WANT, HERD IMMUNITY. This isn't directed at any single individual, and I wish no ill will on anyone. However, for folks that truly believe herd immunity to Coronavirus is the answer, why are they not out doing their part as suredly as those of us who believe the doctor recommended mask and social distancing are? Why aren't they walking into the ICU, purposefully getting infected, so that when they survive, their antibodies can be a key part in achieving HERD IMMUNITY. I mean for cripes sakes, if they truly believe this is the solution, GET IT DONE! Then if herd immunity doesn't save us, Darwin might. I'll tell you why they aren't doing it. It is because the people claiming HERD IMMUNITY is the solution, do not believe they will be the ones making the ultimate sacrifice. They feel as though they are isolated and safe, and will benefit from the death of others as HERD IMMUNITY is achieved, rather than contribute to those deaths. In their eyes, their own FREEDOM, to not wear a mask or be inconvenienced in any way Trumps the deaths that will occur should this course of action be followed. And since they feel as though themselves and their loved ones are safe and isolated from the potential effects, they will make none of the sacrifices. This is not the mindset that made America great, this is not the mindset that won the world wars, unfortunately, this is what half of the country has devolved into. What's good for me, is good for me, if it's bad for you, well, sucks to be you.

  24. Wear a mask when you're out until enough people have gotten the virus or community spread has slowed enough for us to effective track and trace the virus. That way we can keep hospital census low, people can have elective procedures and we don't have to worry about hospital resources and staffing.

  25. Its funny how this always turns into an argument. The people with the bunker mentality are going to do what they're going to do and the people with the 'let it happen' mentality will do the same. No one is convincing the other side of anything. See ya.

  26. Wrong, they knew about it by the end of January for sure. Wrong, dozens of other countries used quarantines/shutdowns to stop the spread and curtain the infection. China, Japan, South Korea, most of the EU, Australia, New Zealand. They are now reopening without increased infection. 1 and 2 worked in dozens of other countries. They have found existing medicines that help reduce mortality we just didn't slow the spread to have enough of them to use. They are already concerned we'll run out of Remdisivir. Experts warned from the beginning not to rely on warm weather slowing the spread and it hasn't, they just hoped it would. However, in other countries who actually slowed the spread the warm weather has helped act as a back drop and allowed them reopen more. They've proven it doesn't spread as well outdoors but there are too many cases here for that to matter. I don't even understand your third point. They have already started estimating how many have it. Some estimates say 20-25% of New Yorkers have had. Others say for every positive test there is 10 cases not tested. That's coming from the "authorities" who you say don't want to test. They are it's just a new disease it takes time to figure this out hence why we were supposed to slow the spread. You need to do a lot more research on this.

  27. Thank you. Wearing a mask is about me trying not to spread it to YOU. It isn't about me being afraid or hiding, it's about caring about others, and doing my part. Wasn't that something folks used to pride themselves on? Sacrificing a bit to help the cause and their neighbors?

  28. Dozens of other countries who effectively handled their disease suggest this is absolutely false. Look at countries around the world who are reopening without increased spread, most of the EU, South Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand etc.

  32. Why the hell does a country with our resources have upwards of 36 million people below the poverty level? That's ten percent of the population.

  33. My numbers come from the NY times daily updares. The multiples are as I said from CDC, Stanford USC, Johns Hopkins, etal. It is just not debatable that many people get the virus and have few or any symptoms and dont ever get tested or counted. Far more than do. None of these millions and millions are being included in any reported news stories, nor in the death rates. People are being misled badly about risks. Period. These are facts. They compare to other flus etc., statistically. But you will never get these from most media outlets. why? Please explain. Then I am done on this never ending back n forth. We will agree to disagree no doubt forever.

  35. A few thoughts on my stance. I am sure Masks do help. Will they stop the spread? No. But they may help. I think some portion of the population is burnt out on cancelling everything and being forced to do things. So the most common sense thing in my mind is open the economy everywhere and everyone wears masks. If you are out in public without a mask you get 10 lashes with some bamboo whipping sticks. It is the sacrifice to open the economy. Unfortunately every state is operating on their own agenda. You have some far loony left states that have some crazy restrictions and other people around the country get scared thinking man they better not bring that communist s#!t to my state. I think a vaccine will work and I think herd immunity is a thing and to assume not is just a crazy tactic by those fearfully afraid of the virus. Past history says non or low threat coronavirus's typically herd immunity doesnt work. But the more virulent and dangerous coronavirus's have been herd immunity does work. So past history with these types of viruses would say herd immunity is a thing. Add to that there is no real credible examples of someone getting it twice and per the medical journal that I think Knapp posted a few pages back, if you do get it twice it is typically more mild the 2nd time. But this is not a mild coronavirus so immunity should be a thing. So instead of saying there is no evidence for immunity so we should go to the extremes on protecting ourselves doesnt make sense to me. The evidence is this coronavirus most closely resembles SARS which immunity was a thing. One other thing to note and it is mostly because I am too lazy to look it up. But someone was comparing us to some other countries who have had way less deaths and infections than the US. How many countries in the world have a population that even remotely compares to the US. I know China and India have way more. But you cant compare us to a country who has like 10 million residents when we have like 350 million. Before the virus even got the the US I knew we were going to get hit hard because we are like the most obese and unhealthy country in the world. So lets not overlook that as a contributing factor to our death rates. The other country that got hit hard was Italy and they have a large elderly population. It seems the elderly and obese people under 55 get hit the hardest. We have alot of fat people under 55.

  38. I think if the authorities announced today - Everybody wear a mask and its business as usual everywhere would make sense for most of us. But thats not happening and no signs it will this year. Plenty of calls to return to shutdowns with no end in sight. Many millions have lost life savings. Now jobs are at risk of permanent loss. Homes at risk. etc etc. Solutions for all these folks?

  41. I am with you 84HUSKERLAW. Knapplec are you one of those guys that wants to pull the bandaid off slowly? This is here to stay as part of our life for at least the next few years and likely longer. Other countries have done a better job of slowing it down. However, unless it is eradicated, they will all get it and we will be in a much better place here since the majority of our population will have some resistance to future outbreaks. I would rather fight the fight now for a few months than watch it ruin our economy and society for the next 5 years.

  42. wearing a mask is not the problem nor the solution. But it makes some people feel better because they are doing something and gives them a false sense of safety. The “experts” say it reduces the probability of infection by about 2%. Even the Great Fauci said masks are almost useless. But if it makes people feel better, fine. Very little downside to them. I am all for masks if the result is we start living again. Open things up and treat those who do get sick. Its not a matter of if everyone gets it, just when.
