  1. Seems like a very obvious choice to have a strong black male figure to recruit omaha & have Ruud recruit the rest of the state

  2. I question that with Johnson. That was, in large part, because of a previous staff not recruiting his brother. Nobody from that staff was here when he was recruited and the family still held it against Nebraska. But, that said, I'm happy an Omaha coach is saying good things about Joseph.

  3. OL coach is the weakest hire, from being on the outside looking in! sf brought more bad coaches to this staff then good ones. Development has almost been non-excistant!

  4. When I start thinking about the season next year I have to do breathing exercises to ensure I don't hyperventilate and pass out. When my wife and I make love I recite next years schedule and she responds with WIN after each game.

  5. Did we really over-react? Like, the whole globe full of humanity? Why is "science" in quotes? IIRC, anyone who predicted 850,000 U.S. Covid deaths was accused of fear-mongering. COVID went from being non-existent to the #3 cause of death in the U.S. within months. The part where hospital beds filled up with Covid patients, taxed the entire healthcare system, and still threatens staffing and non-Covid treatments? That happened, too. It's still happening. Yes, there's a learn-as-you-go to this, and perhaps the most unfortunate fall-out was school kids. As a rule we always err on the side of safety with children, but the mental health aspect was considerable, as many people acknowledge. There wasn't a unified approach and some people think that's a mistake. Others were never going to abide a local, state, or national mandate. Masks were never perfect, but they help. Don't know why that's so hard to swallow. Vaccinations and yes, Bill Maher, boosters help, too. Like, really really help. Huge difference. Tons of stats. Nobody is backpedling on that because there's no reason to. And of course one of the games being played is to pour all your mistrust of the government and especially your partisan leanings into declaring COVID an agenda driven boondoggle rather than an ever-evolving global pandemic. (Not you, necessarily. The collective "you") What's interesting is how well the economy has survived what could have been much more disastrous. So far.

  6. Why get the booster? Because when/if I get Omicron it most likely won't be any more debilitating than a head cold. That's why. Why get the booster? FFS Bill...

  7. Sir, you took his opinion about a booster.... and brought up masks, overwhelming the medical system, War, and making sacrifices. We are simply discussing a booster shot(s)

  8. Just improving special teams will improve the record substantially. The rest mostly comes down to the O line. But I'll be honest: I think the odds of Raiola producing a quick turnaround with the line are slim to none. Maybe in the long run it'll work out, but as far as I'm concerned, we're starting from zero with the group that takes the longest to develop, and doing it with an unproven coach.

  9. I am trying to find a middle ground between debbie downer and Kool-aid drinker. I think Frost has finally acted like someone whose butt is red hot. He has added some great talent and if this doesnt work, I feel good in moving on because he was given a fair shot. That being said, nothing SF has done has given me much hope in his ability as a coach. He makes some really bad in-game decisions that just make me think he is in over his head. Part of me is ok if we fall on our face this year because then we get to hit reset. Part of me hopes that a strong OC gives SF a chance to focus elsewhere and be a true HC and not a OC/HC who cant manage the big picture. Week 1 against NW is CRUCIAL in my mind. The teams schedule gives them a legit chance to win quite a few games.

  10. He's definitely expressing more vaccine hesitancy than I agree with. COVID vaccine absolutely makes sense and has overwhelmingly been the primary factor for why different regions have had discernible death rates since Spring '21 in the US. I do think there is still some conjecture about whether the existing boosters are needed, and overall whether they're particularly effective against Omicron. New Orleans has a new requirement that children age 5-11 must be vaccinated to enter a restaurant. I personally find it to be a ridiculous requirement, and ripe for ridicule...even by the most staunch pro-vax citizen.

  11. Is it not okay to question the measures being asked of us if they begin to make no sense? Similarly, is it not okay to question why we're at war if the reasons given make no sense? We've had experience with both fairly recently.

  12. Well whaddaya know, I kinda sorta said the exact same thing, that CT is immediately the 2nd best qb (in the big ten) behind CJ Stroud.... and Vegas agrees. It feels good Toot, Toot (page 1)

  13. I think people complaining about masks impinging their freedoms are on the fringe. Granted the fringe is maybe larger than it has ever been before. But most people I think just want to be done with the theater of it all. If we're masking to slow the spread, why do we wait to 'mandate' masks until the virus has completely taken hold of the local community? As has been pointed out, how good can it possibly be when you have to wear it < 1 minute over the course of being at a restaurant/bar for perhaps hours? Or, if you've noticed, if you really don't want to, you don't have to wear a mask...anywhere. My theory about this is not this is an agenda or government overreach or anything else. It's no different than having a lazy manager at work. They do a lot of nothing, until they're pressured to do something...then they do whatever bare minimum they have to so they can say they did SOMETHING. We have leaders at every level of government that have behaved this way for 2 years. There seem to be some exceptions to this in some localities, but not many. Say what you want to about China or New Zealand. They picked their path and stuck to it. New Zealand's population overall trusts their gov't. China? Well it doesn't really matter if they trust their gov't or not. I'm not saying a zero COVID strategy would've worked here, but the more infectious each wave became...the more we needed to evolve our thinking to either a) be more aggressive with 'slow the spread' measures, or b) accept that it was becoming impossible and focus entirely on supporting the medical infrastructure with everything we had. Instead, we got what we got, which is a piecemeal, inconsistent response over and over where less and less of the population felt compelled to comply.

  14. Why?!?!? Why would you keep the staff of the guy you fired together. Why wouldn’t you just keep the guy?!?! dumb … just dumb. Off season in full effect I guess. frost isn’t getting fired unless he wins less than 5 games. Calling my shot now.

  17. You teach history and try to stick to the facts. It's up to each person how they feel about it. Some people think the same country that made them feel proud in World War II lost its moral compass in Vietnam. I don't feel personally guilty for that, but it does inform my views on U.S. foreign intervention.

  19. Whether we agree with Newt or not on what he said, he clearly spoke to his interpretation of What’s happening with the commission. He believes people are breaking laws in the process of doing what they are doing. He didn’t say they should go to jail purely for having a commission and investigation.

  20. Or there were 2 returning starters who played 80% of the snaps last year, and the coaches would prefer to get other younger guys into the rotation. I think it was Frost and Ruud pushing Honas out the door to free up his scholarship, than Honas saying "this LB room sucks". Who really cares?

  21. Ok, after being away for 2 weeks doing the covid dance, I have wanted to get a pulse on everyone's confidence level at this point and how it has or has not changed since TA reconfigured Scott's contract and Scott let go of most of his O staff. Major changes: New coaches: Are you comfortable wt each new coach? Portal: Potentially huge portal gains - across the board? Does the influx of new experienced talent improve your out look for 2022? Some thoughts: Generally, I'm pretty excited about the coaching changes. It all has to be proven on the field (that I know is the mantra of everyone so let me say it upfront). I think the new OC will infuse new ideas and life into the offences and hopefully be a mentor to SF. Joseph is the cream - he is already showing his potential. Having a dedicated ST coach will be worth a win or 2 in itself. I'm excited not only by the portal gains but also the JUCU transfers. Some great talent. We will be a totally different looking team. My main concerns: OL: all of these good feelings and gains can come to naught if our OL does not improve by leaps and bounds next year. This is also where there is more doubt in my mind regarding the new OL coach- can he pull it off?? Defense: Even if the offense turns it around next year, we'll have a young D. Can Chin and gang take the infusion of new talent, plus existing young talent and make the D the strength that it was in 2021?

  22. It should probably be pointed out that this article is nearly 7 years old, and a month later the decision was overturned, due to public pressure I'm sure.... I'd be curious what the original reason for closing them was, and also how far the nearest DMV is from those counties. A 20-30 mile drive to the nearest DMV isn't uncommon here in rural Missouri.

  23. Kinda two completely different issues. Restaurants are private businesses and should be able to do what they want, at the risk of alienating customers who may disagree with their policies. As far as ID for voting, I’ve never understood why that is some insurmountable obstacle, for POC or for anyone. Pretty dirt simple to get an ID in my experience. Of course it may take a little effort and planning. Is that too much to ask of people nowadays? Better than letting people vote who shouldn’t be voting imo.

  26. So we're to take solace in our country being less wrong, and mandate-y? I suppose. The masks don't bother me when it makes sense, or back when we thought it made sense to wear them. But still, it's not a big deal, so I'll play along when I'm asked to. There's definitely a "learn as you go" aspect to all this, so it's hard to be all that upset with the "science", but we know quite a bit now, and it's pretty clear that most of us overreacted to the pandemic. Understandable, unless we continue to play these stupid, detrimental games.

  28. This is what I find interesting. Other democratic nations are going to a lot more extremes than we are in the U.S., but somehow people think we are living in a Nazi state just because we are asked (that's all the mandates are at his point) to wear a mask at the grocery store. At least here in Nebraska. It's funny how many Nebraskans brag about how tough they are but whine about wearing a mask or getting a shot. Bunch of pansies!

  29. This is what I was thinking when I made my post that started this tangent. It will hopefully easy for decision makers involved in the program to identify strengths and weaknesses of the current staff if/when they have to make a decision. It just seems that Mickey Joseph is having a much larger influence on things already than just an ordinary WR coach.

  30. I find it funny that you choose to ignore the beginning of the conversation. The beginning of the conversation indicates that he is talking about if something like what Trump wanted Pence to do is done. Trump and his people have worked to get local election officials in place to do just that. They were asking Pence to go against millions of votes. Luckily he didn't. If he had done what Trump wanted, the results that the Senate claimed, should be looked at as illegitimate. So....in 2022, if they do that at the local level, the election should be questioned. And, Biden is somehow tying the bill to preventing that from happening.

  35. Indiana beat Frost’s Huskers in Lincoln… Nebraska does exchange OSU and MSU for “easier” games against Rutgers and Indians. But what does that mean? There’s a better chance to win 4 or 5 games instead of just the 3? All the question marks you mentioned plus the fact that Frost hasn’t shown he can get results has me pretty down on the prospects of 2022.

  39. Frankly at this point you are absolutely correct. I understand the virus is still moving around but the vaccine greatly diminishes the risks associated. Also 5 day quarantine for positive tests makes it alot easier to manage staffing when employees start getting sick. Part of the problem before is logistics. A highly contagious virus that will put out employees 2 weeks minimum made things extremely difficult to manage. It's not like that anymore.

  40. I’m not understanding this one. If students are required to mask and be vaccinated, why can’t they attend in person especially given that college athletics are allowing in person viewing?
