  1. I'm sure a receptionist just wrote down 'Mike from OSU is interested" and there was a classic miscommunication.

  6. I've worked for both government and Fortune 500 organizations, and it's a close call. In both cases it's mostly a matter of Uppermost Management defending their turf at all costs, and Middle Management motivated to cover its a$$ and tracks, and everyone killing the messenger who inevitably brings bad news. Adorable how Republicans think an unshackled for-profit business model solves any of our problems. Hard to believe, but you will start missing government programs when the new overlords start slashing them, and everyone is reminded why they existed in the first place.

  8. And... our ladies advance to tomorrow's championship game with a 2-1 victory over tOSU.. bottom of the 7th double to score the runner on and win the game. Tomorrow is a morning game (10:30) early start as they are expecting afternoon storms. They'll be facing either Michigan (2-0 verses Michigan this year) or Northwestern (0-0 vs Northwestern).

  9. My read is this offer is to have a backup for Wynn if he says no - or to try to put pressure on Wynn? IMO, stupid bluff. All in on Wynn, we're not in a place to tell him to hurry up and make a decision.

  10. The goal isn’t to end up, in any logical fashion, with the best team remaining as champion. The goal is one thing, $$$$. It’s the only explanation for anything they’ve been doing anymore.

  13. Yeah, there are a lot of women who desperately want to have children and rely on modern medical miracles to do so. But because in-vitro often runs the risk of partial and compromised pregnancies, both doctor and patient will now be classified as murderers if they do anything about it. I encourage the God's Will crowd to abandon any medical science that helps keep them alive. Or shut the f#&% up.

  19. Transfer Portal Windows - Proposal of 2 windows for football players to enter the transfer portal. Most likely 5 weeks after regular season ends (Dec-Jan), 5 weeks after spring practice ends (Apr-May). Recruiting Calendar - Basically there would be 2 periods for recruiting off campus, either you can recruit or can't recruit (no more "no contact visits", etc). And there would be a set number of coach/recruiting days that are available. If you send 8 coaches out recruiting for 1 day it would be 8 days, if you send 4 coaches out for 3 days it would be 12 days. Coaching Limitations - Schools could pay for as many full time assistants as they want. This would get rid of grad assts, analysts, etc. If you want 27 on field coaches, go right ahead. I assume this goes for all sports, not just football. Get rid of 25/class recruit limit - You can sign as many kids as you want as long as you are at 85 by start of season. A last one that would really impact non-revenue sports. Similar to football (85 scholarships) or basketball (13 scholarships), there would be a set scholarship limit for each sport and schools could choose to fund scholarships up to that limit. For example, baseball is currently allowed 11.7 scholarships, and those are divided among all players on the roster (some players get 75% scholarship, some players get a 5% scholarship). Under the new proposal, they would set a scholarship limit for baseball at say 25 scholarships, and schools could decided to have 11 scholarships, 19, scholarships, or go all the way to 25 scholarships. https://theathletic.com/3304957/2022/05/11/ncaa-transformation-committee-rule-changes/

  20. Iowa doesn’t have the $$$ to keep up. Barta’s worried and protecting his own.

  21. I don’t understand Barta’s reasoning about sitting out a year fixing anything other than obviously slowing down transfers and delaying NIL deals. I’d guess a lot of players would choose to not transfer if they couldn’t cash in on a big deal immediately. On 2nd thought, maybe that does fix this mess they’ve allowed to occur by curtailing both things.

  22. They need a TABOR (taxpayer bill of rights) law like Colorado has. When they take in more revenue than needed/allowed, it gets refunded directly to the people. I think each taxpayer is getting $400 back this year.

  23. I hope I’m right and this proves once again just how important one person with a vision, like an Osborne or Alvarez or Saban, can be to the success of a program. You go right ahead and shake things up Bucky, you’re getting left behind.

  25. I don't think they have a choice. Democrats won't be able to win Electoral College victories by dominating cities. Moderating on issues gives them a chance to win in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. If they don't, and current trends continue, those states are going to be lost to them just like Ohio and Iowa. Yeah, I agree they could do a better job. But their coalition makes it hard. If they get pissed off about issues that appeal to their college educated whites base, it alienates their working class white and minority wings. If they want to go offensive on issues that appeal to their minority wing, it alienates their working class wing. Finding a message to go on the offensive that appeals to their 3 main coalitions is mostly impossible. They probably need to dilute their platform down to raising taxes on the wealthy and focusing on their policies that improve the safety net. Any messaging with terms like "social justice" or "latinx" or anything similar needs to be tossed into the nearest supermassive black hole. Although I doubt the progressive wing lets them.

  34. Remember walk-on Matt O'Hanlon? Dude was very productive his Jr and Sr years at Nebraska playing safety. If you have a good DC you don't have to be overly athletic to play safety.

  35. Enacting would be great, but that's not even what we're talking about here. This convo started with knapplc saying "voters are tired of Democrats sitting on their hands", and a tweet expressing that voters need to see fight and conviction. This is about the marketing and visibility game. The Democrats are constantly losing the messaging game, which is one cog in the machine that leads to their awful election results. One guaranteed way to make sure you won't accomplish something is if you don't even try. Reframe the narrative. Put things to votes so you can point to people voting against it. Come up with new talking points. Fill the media with the benefits and the messaging of your goal. Create the impression that you are trying like hell to actually get this done and the people not on board are the ones standing in the way of voters having their student loans forgiven or better access to healthcare or whatever, instead of accepting defeat in the public eye by either ignoring or being weeks late in addressing the misinformation and spin from your opponents. Progressive folks want to see some actual teeth to progressive politics.
