One of the biggest disappointments in the spring game is Alvano missing FGs. That's something that is much less affected by the format of the game and it's probably way less of a stress situation than he will see all year next season. And, he shanked some. That's concerning. He has some work to do this summer.5 points

When will the taxation be Kenough?! https://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2024/04/29/president-biden-has-proposed-tax-increases-here-are-six-of-them/?sh=2cf92e04168c Per this article “If your taxable income is $47,025 or less, you pay zero tax on your long-term capital gain.” Couldn’t find exact numbers, but according do a Google search, about 58% of Americans make less than $50k/year. “Biden’s FY 2025 budget proposal? For high income taxpayers, the long-term capital gains tax could nearly double to 39.6%. That proposed capital gains rate increase would apply to investors who make at least $1 million a year. In fact, it is possible to go even higher, as high as 44.6%.” So per the article, the 44.6% capital gains tax rate would apply to people making $1million or more. Which according to a Google search is about .1% of the population. From the article “If passed, the billionaire tax would be a minimum of 25% for households with net worth exceeding $100 million.” Per a Google search, there’s about 10k Americans whose household has a net worth of $100m. Only thing regarding the repeal of section 1031 “Only real estate qualifies, and it must be of like-kind. It has to be business or investment property, not your personal residence.” So it wouldn’t apply to personal residence. Well frankly I’m stunned that “Insurrection Barbie” would seemingly try to mislead people.4 points

Agreed. That article was a chilling reminder as to why this election is truly the most consequential of our life time. (over used phrase but true this time) Some of these Trump advisors remind me of those in the 2nd picture below. The article paints an alt-right utopia as the dream outcome of this group. Trump has no sense of history or place.4 points

I have been so impressed with Coach Rhule since he arrived. Watching the Spring Game, one thing that really stuck out to me was how upset he was to be up in the booth when one of his players was injured. It was so refreshing to hear him say how much he wishes he was down on the field with the player. The guy just gets it.4 points

You might be right, those MAC schools might not be paying much or anything at all. I have no idea, I think a lot of the numbers we hear are totally inflated. I think CBB is where the real money is being spent, you really only need 2 or 3 "money" players to have a good team.4 points

And, if we can stop Putin n Ukraine, he doesn’t end up in Poland where we will be shedding American blood.4 points
-
1. I don't know about "millions" but for sure tens of thousands have died. None of this had to happen if Russia didn't attack Ukraine. 2. This war only exists because Putin attacked a sovereign nation. A nation which wants to be free, and a democracy. As Americans, we should support democracies everywhere. 3. Freedom has a price. You can pay that price in taxes, supporting democracies abroad, or you can ignore the struggle for democracy beyond our borders and wait until the fascists are at our borders. The latter cost isn't in dollars, it's in blood. Those of us who support freedom would rather spend a few dollars in taxes than a few pints in blood.4 points

I haven't seen a single person on here say that it wasn't a bad idea, I've personally agreed with you that the concept is stupid, but the tweet you posted isn't even factual. It's a made up scenario that has no basis in what's being proposed. It's just a lie meant to trigger people.3 points

Yeah - if I remember correctly, they have a limited number of roster spots for non-Canadian players and most of those are already filled. Not to downplay the honor for EMC, but there were only 18 total picks and 7 of those were kickers or punters. It's like a supplemental draft. There's also no guarantee these players will sign - Tory Taylor was picked in the 2nd round, but I imagine he'll go with the Chicago Bears who picked him in the 4th round of the NFL draft. But if he randomly gets cut (he won't), the B.C. Lions would have his rights for the CFL. Nouri Nouili was selected in the CFL draft as well, last pick to the Montreal Alouettes.3 points

But some people are equating a large contingent of pro-Palestinian Americans with a tiny contingent pro-Hamas Americans. And dedicating 98% of the Israel conversation to American college protests rather than what's actually happening in Gaza. Guess that's just how the pro-Benji Bros roll. How will the protestors vote? Hard to say. It's a spectrum, like everything else. The issue is with U.S. supplying money and arms to Israel in the wake of a horrific terrorist attack that has since been used to kill tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians in a ground offensive that the adult and moderate diplomatic experts consider a move by Netanyahu to simply takeover Gaza as he always intended, against longstanding treaties and directives dating back across multiple American administrations and involving some delicate international alliances. Since this is happening on Biden's watch and concerns Biden's immediate actions, the protestors are taking on Biden. Whether they think the situation would get worse under Trump is a call they can make in November. The most virulent activists you see quoted are highly unlikely to vote for Biden. They didn't vote for Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama or John Kerry either. These are the people who voted for Green candidates like Jill Stein, or possible the handful of people who voted for an actual Socialist Party candidate, or like some of their rightwing counterparts simply won't vote. I don't like single-issue voting, and I think Gaza has taken that role for some, including the large muslim population in swing state Michigan. But the lack of enthusiasm for Biden among young voters is the larger concern, and it pre-dates October 7.3 points

Who says a MAC team can pay anything on NIL? There are rumblings that Power 5 teams can barely pay anything to the starters. UCLA for example. Has maybe 1 million/year to pay out to ALL student athletes. To me that is what is so goofy about the money argument. Nebraska, by all accounts is in the top 10 in NIL money in the country. To me the only reason players will leave this situation is if they don't care about money, or they don't like the situation here. (Which I think is nuts, but to each their own)3 points

In what way is this OK? Truly baffled by this statement. Ukraine is a sovereign nation who wants to live in a democracy. Russia is a puppet state ruled by an autocrat. In what context should Americans, who love democracy and freedom, not want to give a democracy our full support against autocracy?3 points
-
1. You have no data backing up this statement. If anything, without our equipment this one is over quick. 2. This prolonged war which has stalled is approaching the million casualty mark as is just in soldiers killed or wounded. Ukraine needs to come to the table. 3. American taxpayers have no obligation to support Ukraine or any nation. Especially when conditions at home are terrible and this county is 34 trillion in debt. And rising. This is a war of enrichment. They are not doing this out of the kindness of their own heart. that being said as I am powerless. I would like to see Ukraine win but that will never happen.3 points

There certainly is a scenario in a civil war where 10% of the population isn’t killed. By your account, we’ve been in a constant civil war ever since the two party system became main stream. Is an actual civil war going to happen after this election? NO. Will Donald Trump protest a close election loss? Most likely. Will Donald Trump win his protest of said close election loss. NOPE Will people get mad and their feels hurt about the election if it’s close? YEP Will it cause a civil war? NOPE The country has a better chance of spending its way into oblivion sooner than any civil war will happen.2 points

Usually a civil war isn’t citizens throwing daisy’s at each other Throughout history, Civil Wars are quite deadly. One would assume the 2025-202…one will be much the same. But I’m guessing you think our coming civil war will just be some states sitting around playing a modified board game of Risk to see who controls America?2 points

Yea it’s absolutely moronic. and again, probably unconstitutional. @RedDenver lots of pages to sift through though for you unfortunately. I’m not taking the time to do it. This link was embedded in a Forbes article as the genesis of Biden’s unrealized gains tax proposal https://home.treasury.gov/system/files/131/General-Explanations-FY2025.pdf2 points

Yes, over 150 years ago one did happen. And at one point Kansas was a shallow sea. If that’s the standard, Guess I better get ocean flood insurance. @teachercd what does your sports book have on the odds of a 2025 Civil War? Is it worth a bet. It has happened before I’m told so might want to put some dough on it. Seriously though. America IS NOT going to have a civil war based on the 2024 election. You guys (and gals) already have enough stuff bothering you, please don’t huff and puff about that one.2 points

There's a huge amount of "America bad" that permeates in the American Left, typically concentrated in younger circles. It's catastrophically stupid. Not as stupid as actually scheming to undermine an election with fake electors, but still very stupid.2 points
