Elijah Robinson begins his third season as defensive line coach for the Temple Owls. In 2016, he added the responsibility of Defensive Run Game Coordinator.

Robinsons impact on the defensive line has been apparent and immediate. During the 2015 season, the Owls recorded 33 sacks, including a season-high 10 in the win against Penn State. Robinson once again saw his players recognized, as DT Matt Ioannidis and DE Nate D. Smith were named first-team All-Conference. Smith led the team with 7.0 sacks for 47 yards, while Ioannidis ranked in the top three for TFLs with 10.5.

In the first four games of the 2014 season, four touchdowns were scored by the defensive line. The team had nine sacks and 21 tackles for loss.

By seasons end, Ioannidis and DE Praise Martin-Oguike were making every All-Conference list. Ioannidis notched 47 tackles and a team-leading 11.0 TFLs while Martin-Oguikes 7.5 sacks were the most by an Owl since 2010.

Robinson, a Camden, NJ, native, came home to Philadelphia after spending the previous ten seasons with Penn State.

The former Nittany Lion defensive tackle transitioned into coaching when his playing career was cut short after suffering a neck injury during spring practice in 2007. Robinson graduated from Penn State in 2008 and joined the PSU staff as a graduate assistant coach one year later.

His primary responsibilities were assisting Larry Johnson in coaching the defensive line and preparing the offensive scout team from 2009. In 2011 he was promoted to a full time coaching position. Then in 2012 when Bill OBrien took over as head coach, Robinson became Penn States director of player development and NFL liaison. In that role he would organize scouting visits, orchestrate Pro Day, develop community service initiatives and serve as the football teams liaison with admissions, compliance, housing, and academics.

Robinson earned All-State and All-South Jersey honors at Woodrow Wilson High School, leading the team to a 15-0 record and a state championship in 2002.

Also, for recruiting:

Coaching under Larry Johnson is pretty noteworthy, no? Isn't he considered a top recruiter and player developer?

I'd be all for some more east coast recruiting connections with a guy who knows what he is doing.

There are reports that A&M has been rejected by 4 DL coaches.

Oklahoma searching too. Might be an uphill battle.

Meh. A&M has issues no matter to us. Doubt we and OU covet the same coaches at this juncture. Big hire though, shouldn't have f'd it up the first time.

you think maybe taking coach O when he had a chance is on MR s mind?

Coach O won't ever be considered. He is not an ethical man. He has dirty recruiting baggage follow him at every university he goes to. The only thing he has going for him is that he can coach D-Line and get good players to campus, kids like him. But he is not a man of ethics or integrity... And Mike won't stand for that. At the end of the day... What really matters is integrity, ethics, and trust. That's what this coach has to have.
