  1. Paul Johnson to retire at GT, going to miss seeing the option run

I thought he would've been a good choice in 2007. Something that's always stood out to me since then, though, was how low his recruiting classes were ranked, despite recruiting to a major university in the south. Take Paul Johnson out of Georgia and make him try to recruit to Nebraska? Uhhhh....

@ColoradoHusk I think Jim Grobe was on the finalists list, wasn't he? Supposedly the story was that he didn't like the idea of keeping Watson around.

    3. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

@Toe you are correct that Jim Grobe was a finalist.  I think he was more of a "finalist" than Johnson was.  I totally forgot about Grobe.  Grobe wanted to bring in more of his own assistants, and wasn't thrilled that Osborne thought NU should keep the offensive assistants around.

I don't watch enough Georgia Tech football to say I'll miss it.

I get my annual fix from the Army-Navy game.

Isn't it a little early to be judging the 18 year olds from the 2018 class on whether they are difference makers yet?

    3. tmfr15

      tmfr15

I get what you're saying on premature predictions, but Rivals say the 5.9 and 5.8 guys with four stars are the difference makers. We are piling up the 5.6 and  5.7 guys with three stars. I have been saying for a long time that balanced classes with eight or so highly rated players would be the set up that would put us in the upper end when it comes to on field results. We got five highly rated guys. Do we get three more? Does it even matter? Are ratings not to be trusted?

      HuskerInLostWages

@tmfr15we see what he got at UCF and they are currently on a 23 game win streak and those were 3 and 4 stars with speed.  We just have to wait and see what we have.  Frost seems to find guys who fit his system and flourish, so let us wait and see.

I'm not a Twitter guy but I've heard tell of their funny Twitter account in the past.

They usually trash McDonald's, which is fair game, but I thought they were out of line smack-talking Hardees.  Their best burger is just a sad ripoff of Hardees' monster burger.

  5. Well at least we are top 10 in 3 categories, 1 good, 2 bad.

Sacks (We were #1 starting today)

    Turnovers

    Penalties

  6. At least i'm already numb to losing thanks to the previous years.  I saw some improvement but then again I saw the same old BS as previous years.  It's easy now to give Frost the benefit, I'm long past getting angry at losing and come to expect it.  Frost, please make us better.

I believe there was improvement in many areas, but “same old BS” = bad penalties, bad special teams, D not causing turnovers, D giving up 3rd & longs

    3. HuskerInLostWages

      HuskerInLostWages

@ladyhawkethe stupid penalties at the most inopportune times basically.  I have grown accustomed to them, so I expect them as well as the turnovers.  They are still the same so i am numb to them.

    4. ladyhawke

      ladyhawke

I agree that there are still remnants of the bad coaching, very poor strength and conditioning, from the previous staff but, would you agree that it’s going to take some time to purge these things? It’s almost like Scott has had to start from scratch to rebuild this team.

I like what I saw and am willing to put the rest aside hoping that this new staff will be able to use this game as a tool to improve play.

  7. Still wondering why the ref's didn't blow the whistle on Martinez's injury down.  Kid knee was down, no whistle, 3 Fluffs push him backwards over the knee and eventually the whistle is blown.

    1. ZRod

      ZRod

Yeah, the hit that pushed him backwards was borderline, but I don't think it was dirty.

    2. HuskerInLostWages

      HuskerInLostWages

@ZRodI dont know, they let the play go, but the kid seemed to have his leg and continue to roll when the whistle should have been blown but he just kept getting hit.  Play to the whistle of course and I stated in the game threat it was borderline dirty.  It just seemed to take forever for those idiots in stripes to blow the whistle until 4 other guys got a chance to hit him.

    3. onlyHskrfaninIL

      onlyHskrfaninIL

very bad refs they blew a lot of calls but pretty equally both ways

  8. Coach Snyder needs to call it quits after this season, he does not look well.

    1. ColoradoHusk

      ColoradoHusk

The crazy thing is that K-State gave Grandpa Snyder an extension before the season. I’m sure they did it for recruiting purposes, but it wasn’t a great decision. I think Snyder is still angling for his son to be the next coach at KSU.

  9. How much money does NU lose tonight?  They pay Akron they refund ticket prices, that has to be a pretty penny.

    1. Cdog923

      Cdog923

They should probably try to recoup the payment to Akron for the game itself, especially if they were the ones who didn't want to play on Sunday.

  10. And on the 6th day, Frost created Husker football, and it was good. GBR!!!

I figured there would be something from the coaches after practice on what they saw.  I cant wait till Monday, i need my fix.

    3. The Dude

      The Dude

A few generic things I've heard, "high intensity, fast-paced, high energy, lots of excitement".  Also the defense created a lot of turnovers.

I know a guy who watches all the practices, but I don't like bugging him too much.  I'm sure he'll get more specific as camp goes on.

Cam Jurgens was working with the #1 offense today at TE.

Apparently Damion Daniels is a tank and will cause issues for offenses.

It depends on the form of the death threat. If someone is repeatedly calling your home and threatening you then you should let the police know it’s happening. If it’s some jerk yelling out of the car then just consider the source.

    3. teachercd

      teachercd

Oh yeah, for sure.  If it is some random tweet from some A-hole...who cares...but yeah if they are calling your home or (I think this would be creepy) mailing you s#!t...that is totally different.

  20. Can't one of the press guys just ask Riley, "you know you're gone at the end of the season, who should the Huskers hire to replace you?"  That would be awesome.

I read that and I'm like... is that it?  This guy's complaints are:

Bad clock management in the Navy game

A fake rivalry Diaco tried to push didn't work (where have we seen that before?)

Diaco didn't play the right quarterback, or the right quarterback at the right time

Diaco didn't want to hire Jerry Kill

None of these are unique complaints. Diaco is one of dozens of coaches, including Riley, who have bad clock management skills.

The fake rivalry thing is becoming more a hallmark of college football than real rivalries. The idiotic trophies Nebraska plays Iowa & Wisconsin for are two, and Bill McCartney created a fake rivalry with Nebraska thirty years ago.

The backup quarterback is the most-used trope in all of football, pro or college. Playing injured players happens every week, every coach, every team.

Lots of people/places didn't want to hire Jerry Kill. Lots don't want to hire Tracy Claeys, either.

None of those complaints are examples of poor accountability. They're all gripes with coaching decisions.
