  1. I know I’m glad I don’t have a TV camera in my face for 3 hours every week, but Bill Callahan has had that odd facial tick with his mouth since his days at Nebraska.

      Hahaha!  Yes he did!

I have known a few girls that had that ummmm...oral tick.

@teachercd Did those girls also look like Bill Callahan?

  2. I wonder what the percentage of crazy Ohio State fans are saying that if Burrow were named QB1 instead of Haskins in 2018, that he would have stuck around for his senior year and they would be in the natty this year. My guess is about the same percentage of NU fans complaining about Frost not recruiting Burrow when he was transferring.

Most that have been following him through HS and while he was at OSU are happy for him. Who knows for sure of he would have developed like he has at OSU, but there are many that wanted him over Haskins from the beginning. I think if he didn't break his hand his RS so year, he would have been the one that went into the Michigan game over Haskins. If he would have won the game like Haskins did, I think he would have been the starter at OSU and Haskins would have tranfered.  OSU wasnt going to win the playoffs last year with Burrow and Haskins ended up having a very good year. They now have Fields for at least another year. I think it has worked out fine for OSU. Good luck to Burrow in his next game and hopefully he works magic for the Bengals next year.

  3. Interesting tidbit on the roster from the LJS, 93.4% of the returning players will have used their redshirts.  Frost is definitely trying to get the roster to mature, while also still be "young" eligibility-wise.

    1. Atbone95

      Atbone95

He knew this was a long-term rebuild. No sense in wasting eligibility when the outcome wasn't going to change. Smart dude.

    2. NUance

With the (relatively) new 4 game allowance to play, there's really no reason to burn a redshirt.  Unless the guy is so incredibly talented as a true frosh that you can't keep him off the field.  Or there is a drastic need.

      Atbone95

"Unless you're Wandale, you're probably redshirting" - math checks out

  4. Is Day gonna lose this game because he didn’t go for 2 after scoring the TD to make the score 22-21?

Coaches are stupid about the two point conversion...they act like it is a crime to go for two.

      Heck yeah they do!

  5. Is Jeff Brohm going to be this generation’s Mike Riley?  Takes over a traditionally losing program. Known as a smart offensive guy. His teams consistently find ways to lose games. They should have beaten Northwestern last week, and about about to blow one to EMU today.

  6. It's being reported that Kyler Murray is going to forego baseball and enter the NFL draft.  I know that most people will think "why turn down all that baseball money", but since Murray is a QB, he can probably earn more in the NFL, than in baseball.

If he's drafted near the top of the 1st round he will get a guaranteed $20-30M in his rookie contract (and at least $10M if he's anywhere in the first round).  If he is halfway successful, he will be looking at $150 guaranteed in the NFL after 5 years.

Also, NFL QB's don't get beat up like they used to, so there isn't the physical damage which some people argue for baseball.

Murray is looking at $30-50M guaranteed in the next 5 years in football.  In baseball, he's at $5M right now, and isn't guaranteed to hit the majors in the next 2 years, if ever.  From what I hear, he is very raw in baseball.  He just has amazing speed and a great arm.

Football is the far better sport. Lots of $ either way and he picked the sport that's more fun to play. QBs also get a lot more attention than any position in baseball other than maybe pitcher but maybe not even pitcher.

Baseball isn't as bad for the health (despite it possibly being safer for QBs now) so that's the only real negative, imo.

  7. Jalen Hurts to Oklahoma.  Didn't expect that.

This is a weird spot.  I've never been overly impressed with Hurts' ability to read through progressions or deliver the ball effectively.  Maybe that won't matter much given Riley's ability to scheme dudes open plus the general lack of defense in the Big XII.  I have zero doubts on him as a runner though.  Who knows, maybe I'm dead wrong here.

Well, isn't his family from Texass? Would make sense he picked the school that utilizes Texass talent the best.

It’s funny that Penn State lost by 3, especially considering they gifted Kentucky 3 points early in the game after the failed fake punt. Penn State was facing a bad offense yet felt like they needed to take chances to score early in the game, but was conservative at the end of the game.

  9. Just realized I was still following Mike Riley on Twitter.  That resulted in a quick unfollow.

@Minnesota_husker I skimmed thru that article about Leach vs. Texas in '99.  It was great.

  12. Mike Leach to Ole Miss.  That will be fun to see him in the SEC.

  13. Mike McIntyre out at CU after this season. That game may have gotten easier for NU next season.

Montez is only a junior, so he could still come back.  I am wondering if he will look to grad transfer to another school if MacIntyre is indeed fire.

Damn, I was really looking forward to Nebraska beating them by at least 40 next year with him still the head coach... All well, I look forward to Nebraska beating them by at least 40 next year without him the head coach.

Good for him.  He is the 2nd best TE on that team though and that is not a knock on Fant but a compliment to the other guy.  Hockenson is the complete package.  Noah will have to get better at blocking or go somewhere they use him like Jimmy Graham.  Iowa will still be loaded at TE next year if Hock stays, but losing Fant does take away an explosive option on the perimeter.

I wouldnt mind one bit if the Vikings drafted him. Obviously not an area of need, but good player. Makes life easier against Iowa.

BOL to Fant in the NFL.  Hopefully he's able to catch on with a team that will allow him to play to his strengths.

  17. Northwestern d-lineman with a dirty hit on Stanford's QB right before halftime.  He wasn't even given a targeting penalty.

  18. Not a Bama fan, but I would feel really happy for Hurts if he were able to lead Bama back in this game.
