OWH: Bo Pelini insults A.D. Shawn Eichorst in expletive-filled rant during final meeting with players

this hurts the program.

I agree, and that is why I'm surprised it came out. When the first tape was released, you can understand why. Releasing this tape and this time is confusing. It does nothing but hurt the University. This exposure certainly can't help Riley's recruiting efforts. The team doesn't need this 10 days before playing in their bowl game. Even if YSU was to back out of their HC choice, it would only hurt UNL even more financially.
How does this hurt the University? I get that it is bad publicity and makes things seem like a total clusterf#@k around the program but, this is about the total and complete classlessness of one man, Bo Pelini, not the University. Anybody that puts any stock in what Bo Pelini says at this point in time is not a smart person. His comments about SE should be given the same weight as his comments about everything else and that means anything he says is basically worthless and likely wrong.

Seems to me that this recording supports the justification for firing a 9-win coach. I mean, wouldn't anyone around the nation listen to his remarks to the team and say, "Yeah, I guess Pelini really was a douchebag after all. Nebraska did well to get rid of the guy."

Agree this supports the idea of firing a nine win coach. But, honest question, when has Bo ever lied? Is there really a reason not give his words weight? Just because he is constantly pissed off person, does not mean his words are untrue, necessarily.

It's not necessarily a question of him lying but more how he seems to be totally incapable of perceiving how things really are. His perception of everything else seems to be clouded and just plain wrong, so why should anyone believe a word he has to say about Eichorst. It's like getting stock advice from the bum who lives under the bridge.

I guess that is my question. Name one thing he has said that is wrong. Nobody can prove anything he said is wrong. You may not agree, but its not "wrong".

So his words are automatically correct?

B* P***** was never one for the big picture, so it doesn't surprise me that he doesn't understand that you can show support in more ways than one. A square peg doesn't have to be jammed into a triangle hole. And it's easy to spin realities based on what you perceive.

Where did I mention his words are automatically correct? Funny you mention spinning realities....

So if his words are not wrong, because "when has Bo Pelini ever been wrong", what are they?

We don't know, that's my whole point buddy. Everybody here is assuming they are untrue. I don't get it.

So SE might be a c**t and p***y. Got it.

I was hurt from tapegate...didn't want to believe it...attributed it to heat of the moment. Reality sunk in deep during that Wisconsin game when he melted down and took the team with him. Knew it was time for him to move on.

This quote bugs me...“I said to (assistant coach Rick Kaczenski) at one point, I said, 'man, this is killing me.' I said, 'I don't want to die doing this job.' I meant it. I was like, 'I don't want to have a heart attack doing this job.'”

Well Bo...if you were really that concerned about your health, you resign. Simple as that. But clearly money and/or pride was more important than your health so you can't make us feel sorry for you. You're weren't trapped in this contract. This wasn't your only shot at work.

It's sad because I think almost every poster here can relate with being in a situation where you are bitter and upset and fester in it. Bo better learn how to deal with adversity. As a coach, he'll be facing it his whole career. Bo has proven he is not setup to lead a big program. I want to wish him the best but I can't. Bye Bo we had some good times and I choose to remember those.

ironically, he isnt even suited to lead a mcdonalds

And all of you would crumble in one week under the pressure he had, but as we all know you guys all run multi million dollar companies with 120 lives in your hands everyday, so it's cool I get it.

Yeah, and all of us get paid $3.1 million per year. Don't you think the skill set should be commensurate with the pay grade? You pay a guy $3.1 million per year and you expect he'll have the skills of a CEO, not a McDonald's window cashier. (Even if the guy would rather work at McDonalds. LULZ. what a class act.)

edit: As I think about it, a McDonald's window cashier would have gotten fired for a lot of the antics we've seen from Bo. So there's that. lol

It was time for BO to move on for his health and for us the fans. Bo painted himself into a corner with no way out. Pearlman should have gone along with Steve after the Cali screw up.I will give Eichorst time, Basketball hire was a good choice, if Mike is wrong hire then he should go but I think Mike will please us demanding husker fans..

TO being forced out: Well, the man has been working for the program for a long time. He was in his 70s. Initially he came on as AD only for a temporary time. I'm inclined to believe the man just wanted the rest.

SE never communicating with the players? He's an AD, I don't care about that.

Communicating with Bo? That might be an issue. But, it's hard to believe a crazy rant.

Was Bo and Eichorst's relationship the best thing? Probably not. I am sure Eichorst could have handled things "better", but it probably didn't take him long to realize that "I can't really work with Bo long-term, Bo isn't going to like anything I do." So, he let Bo do just poorly enough to get fired. Then when Bo's true feelings get released to the media, Eichorst can then say "See why I fired him?? He can't be a leader of young men at the University of Nebraska."

Agree

To those who would buy in too readily to Bo's purported desire for a more hands on AD:

Bo hated TO's management style. He thought TO micro-managed him while he was here. Now he whines that Eichorst stays out of his way? Which does he want? You can be sure it wouldn't matter to Bo - he would whine and point fingers, because that's who he is and has been - a victim.

Bo instills it in these kids that no one else cares for them but him. The media, the fans, the AD. It's legitimately like a beaten wife syndrome - "NO ONE ELSE WILL CARE FOR YOU LIKE I DO!"

I'm just somewhat glad that Husker fans are getting a small glimpse into the type of man that Bo Pelini truly is, and has been in his time here, finally.

Does Bo strike you as the kind of guy who doesn't just want to be left alone to run his program the way he sees fit?

Re: the pressure. I mean, it clearly was way too much for him. And it's intense. Sorry that he couldn't handle it, not many people can. Glad he's somewhere else now, may he be more at peace in Youngstown. Still no pity for how he chose to respond and the example he's set for fans and players alike.

A generation of Nebraska fans grew up cheering a program run by this man. My god.

The pressure is immense when all you do is focus on the bad and put all your time and thought into defending yourself against your "supposed" army of attackers.

Maybe he should have embraced his opportunity and recognized the mass of supporters he had here. May have alleviated the pressure.

Bo strikes me as a "his own worst enemy" type.

totally agree that Se, HP, and the University side of this debate had zero interest in attempting to get either tape (last year or this one) out of the public eye. Both just strengthened their case to get him out, literally no reason for them to try to block its release.

Other than making recruits wondering what the heck is going on here.

Well; the sock did say Bo wanted to burn the program down on the way out. Two out of three is pretty good sock!

Being 2/3 on predictions is like going 9-3. Ain't going to cut it at Nebraska. Maybe for socks at a low-tiered program with lesser expectations . . .

The sock just needs to execute, and stay with the process.

You guys are pu&&y. I like Bo even more.

Look at almost any thread, and if you think you "fans" are not more negative and childish the Bo, your delusional. SE sounds like a complete loser.

Bring it.

I agree about liking Bo more from this, I know that's not popular...and I am glad he's gone, but still nice to see someone who doesn't just do the "company" good-bye and act like everything was fine. Why do we have to be so "PC" all the time, it's like everyone freaks out when someone speaks their mind. If he was working at McDonalds and left that job with a rant like this, we would all say "good job" but when it's a university position and comes with a million dollar salary everyone thinks he has to act a certain way...I like his passion.
I wouldnt say good job. I would call that person stupid and classless.
