Hayseed
I'm hearing that all the sports writers who hated Pelini had a love affair going on with Chinander. Fire the sports writers, bring back Bo 'Hair of the Dog' Pelini. Quote Link to comment

Our defense is about as bad as it gets. It looks like an average game of backyard football. No organization, massively missed assignments, easily fooled, and just plain bad tackling. On top of all that, chins was Scott's buddy. Pretty hard for him to focus after Frost was let go imo... another dead man walking scenario that had to be addressed now. I am optimistic that the change in leadership leads to some positives. The bolded part is where we differ. Firing Chins is fine - but there's no reason to think anything is getting better just because we fired him. It's a repeat of what happened last week when people thought firing Frost and making Mickey Joseph the interim HC was going to help us beat Oklahoma - it didn't. 1 Quote Link to comment
The Scarlet Pimpernel
This is hilarious. Some of the same folks who told me in I was in denial last year when I said I still wasn't convinced about Chins are now in here saying the exact same things I was saying then. 1 Quote Link to comment

Now im almost sure we wont win another game the rest of the season. All because chinander got fired? Did you see the defense? They need more talent. But, the majority of these problems is scheme. If he was unwilling to change what he was calling….see ya. We weren’t going to win any games anyway. Quote Link to comment

It’s been pointed out by a lot of people that he has two high safeties way too much and teams exploit it. I’m sure they practice one high safety at times. Use it. Quote Link to comment
Popular Post alexhortdog95
This one is gonna be a rant, and I may get run for it, but at this point, after hearing all of the talk after this morning's news, I don't rightly care at this point.... I'm hearing all kinds of talk after Coach Chin was fired about how wonderful a guy he was, how much of a standup dude he was, how friendly he was. That's all good, and I'm sure he was a standup guy, real great to get along with. We all know folks like that. People that are ride or die, nice folks who have your back through thick and then. People you can confide in, people that you trust. News flash - that doesn't mean that they are the best person to do the job you hire them for. I've been in the tech industry over 22 years. I've known folks that I'd trust to watch over my children in an emergency. I wouldn't hire them to do what I do, though. Why? Because they weren't the best fit for the job. They weren't very good at the job. Oh, they gave it a 110% effort, and I loved them for that. But their best wasn't good enough. Which leads me to one of the major issues since Frank Solich was so unceremoniously fired years ago. You are hired to do a job. Period. If your job is to win football games....and your loyalty to your friends is getting in the way of that....well.... Bill Callahan Mike Riley Bo Pelini (to some extent) and now, Frost. I am SICK and TIRED of hearing how standup a person is when it's obvious they aren't the right person for the job. Who is? I don't know, but if you have a person driving the bus who is continuously running into parked cars...would you let that person continue to drive?!? Hell no! College football in the 21st century is a BUSINESS. It's a multi BILLION dollar business. Tough decisions have to be made. Chin should have not just been gone last year - he should never have gotten the job. Last year was a better year for him because he rode JoJo until he couldn't any longer. And it shows this year. Dabo Swinney fired two assistants in 2011 because they weren't meeting with success. Brent Venables escorted an assistant out for the use of a racial slur. Wasn't any "oh, he was a good guy, he made a mistake." Guy. Had. To. Go. Georgia Tech fired 3 assistants a few years ago (and their head guy needs to get fired soon as well). Arkansas won 9 games last year, and still fired an assistant coach. And.... Frank Solich fired Craig Bohl after 2 seasons after the defense took a turn in the wrong direction. When is nepotism going to stop being the norm in the athletic department in Lincoln, NE? The "good ol boy" network only works when you're winning games. If you're losing - you have to put on your big boy pants, make a decision to let a close friend go, and put folks into a spot that will help YOU get the kids into the best position to win games for them AND you as the head guy. It's nothing personal, it's business, and it's your job. So - win, lose or draw....I applaud the changes in Lincoln. Even if Coach Joseph doesn't win the job - these changes are PAST DUE. And the expectation that you are guaranteed a job each year? Screw all that. You need to develop players and deliver success in the classroom AND on the field. If you can't do that - you need to find another place to land other than Lincoln, Nebraska. My rant is over, I go prepare to get things ready for House of the Dragon now.... 5 4 1 Quote Link to comment
VectorVictor
Folks seem to be forgetting that we, like other programs, have been hiring handfuls of college coaches as non-coaching analysts. I’m sure in a pinch we can promote one of the analysts to full time coaching if we truly need someone in the spot. 1 Quote Link to comment

Mickey wouldn’t have made the decision if not for good reason. It’s difficult to make much of an impact in less than a week and begin to make a dent to the issues that have been brewing over the coarse of the last 4+ years. Quote Link to comment
