  3. To be fair you're on a Nebraska board - would you expect any less yapping on our own forum? If you want a real laugh at some unrealistic fan opinions, here's an Iowa article claiming Nate Stanley will go down as one of the greatest Big Ten QBs of all time. https://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2019/8/15/20805804/an-optimists-guide-to-iowa-football-season-kirk-ferentz-nate-stanley-brian-ferentz-hawkeyes

  4. Nebraska's secondary allowed opponents a 57.11% completion percentage last year. While not great thats a top 40 ranking despite a front 7 providing virtually zero pass rush. Minnesota meanwhile, allowed opponents a 64.79% completion percentage. 117th worst in the nation. And before you bring up the Gophers change at DC... Over the final 3 games of the season Nebraska's secondary improved to a sparkling 45.74% cpa which puts them at #4 in the country over that span while Minnesota's cpa barely dipped at all, improving to just 63.64 - still well outside the top 100. Minnesota's secondary isn't even in the same ballpark as Nebraska's.

  5. I think one of the few things the conference got right with the legends/leaders mess was our annual cross league game with Penn st. It checked a lot of boxes, mutual dislike due to past history, the conference newcomers, and history. If that was still going today I bet it would be a red circle on the calendar for both school every year.

  7. They are all getting bat crazy wt Trump derangement syndrome Thinking about this, I see 2 reasons this has happened: 1. The GOP as a whole made a big mistake: Instead of seeing the election of Trump as a fluke and primarily because the Dems selected Hillary as their candidate. They saw it as a trend and to get on top of the trend, they all jumped on board to remain politically viable. They failed to look long term - that the voters will reject this kind of hate eventually. 2. The GOP, or at least many in the GOP, were silently like Trump already and now their true 'inner child' is coming out as Trump has given them cover to do so.

After missing most of the spring and now appears to be dinged up again I'm wondering how he will be able to hold up once the real action starts. Curious if it is the hamstring again. And while the 2 deep receivers had me much more confident in that group than before the beginning of camp with all the injuries I'm starting to get a little nervous.

  11. And they've also done an extraordinarily good job of changing the paradigm of practicing medicine by general practitioners to be reactionary instead of being proactive about one's health. Because if you actually care for the body with whole-body wellness, you don't need as many drugs that just take aim at the symptoms instead of the root cause. Freaking hate that s***.

  12. Hes saying that while youre getting mad at the people taking advantage of the system, which is a very small amount of people getting benefits, maybe you should be getting mad at the real people who are screwing us over. Not saying you vote republican, and this can be used for democrats to a sense also, but this is basically what Im trying to say above. The people f#&%ing you are not the ones taking advantage of the system and that's exactly who these companies want you to blame.

  21. Here's an interesting thesis written on the subject of: The 2008 Financial Crisis: How Deregulation Led to the Crisis
    2 points
  22. Ummm....no. The main cause was deregulation of the financial markets and repealing this was a big part of that. LINK Deregulation allowed for the entire sub prime mortgage industry to escalate. Behind the scenes of that, were the trading of derivatives. Was the Glass-Steagall Act the main reason? I would say no. That was more of other issues with both Clinton and Bush pushing for easier access to mortgages so more people could buy homes. This also required some deregulation to push Fannie May and Freddie Mac to allow more and more sub prime mortgages. The trading of those and the associated derivatives exacerbated the issue to the point that it nobody even knew how to unwind it. People who poo poo the repeal of Glass-Steagall are doing a real disservice in an effort to push an agenda that regulations are bad and we should deregulate more and more industries.

  25. This is a good one to discuss. While Obamacare didn't do too much to improve the price of health insurance, what it tried to do was gutted by Rebuplicans and Trump. The insurance companies we're supposed to receive subsidies from the government (I believe the money came from new taxes on medical devices or something). The GOP stonewalled these subsidies with lawsuites and Trump finally said he wouldn't pay them. The net result was increased premiums. The subsidies we're designed to help control any rise in premiums due to insurance companies been required by law to pick up low income and extremely sick people who did not previous have coverage. When you gut a crucial part of a bill of course it will begin to fail. The truth is that Obamacare was never given a chance by the GOP, because it likely would have been a minor net positive for the country.

  28. This is a really interesting subject for me. I remember somewhere around the end of 2005 or in 2006 sitting with my father and several other people. Remember, this was when things were really flying high. Economy was booming. We were discussing what worries us about the economy. My father, being much younger and was a very smart man....mentioned the bank deregulations. He thought it was a really bad idea to allow banks to also be involved in insurance and investing. Fast forward a year or so and the entire system crashed. Deregulating this under the Bush and Clinton administrations was a horrible HORRIBLE idea and lead directly to the great recession and banking crisis. Interestingly now....my father is much older and his mind isn't what it used to be...he sits and watches Fox News all day and he somehow thinks deregulation of the banking industry is a great idea and those horrible Socialist Democrats are ruining America by burdening our financial system with so much red tape and regulations.

  31. I get the frustration at people taking advantage of the system. I get frustrated at that too. However, I have grown to believe that this number is much less than Republicans want us to believe. It sure seems to me that we might have something like 50 million people not being able to get healthcare...which causes more health problems...which ends up costing more.... because we're concerned about 1 million people who might be taking advantage fo the system. Meanwhile, other countries are paying a third of what we are for healthcare. Heck, it's very possible that the savings we would see (if we could get our costs down to what other countries are spending) that this would easily be much more than what people taking advantage of the system costs.
