  3. Trev, IMHO, is the best AD we've had in a couple of decades and yes that includes better than Tom. He is professional, analytical, and loyal to the brand.

  4. Well, of course he's tied with Trump. Voters like you are the reason why. You exist in an alternate reality devoid of evidence, the ability to reflect on your choices, and stunning lack of understanding the world around you. Frankly, the last time voters like you entered the voting both the guy you voted for tried to overthrow Democracy. So do the country a favor and cut the schtick. I realize that there are 75 million Americans just like you and I have no hope for them. But if you people just stop voting, the rest of us can drag you forward kicking and screaming and we can actually try to solve the countries many problems without the Right wing faux culture war outrage.

  6. Starting a season with two road games against good (maybe better than good) Power 5 opponents is not an ideal way for a new staff to blastoff. Defense is playing with some fire and intensity. A for effort and really what more can we ask for (reasonably) other than a high level effort? 8 sacks is a solar type bright spot and something to build off of Averaged 5.4 Yrds per carry Managed 341 yards offense in spite 4 turnovers. It seems there's a positive lesson here if not for the "in spite" of part what might the total have been. Winning means so much because it's not easy.

  7. Doesn’t Rhule have a contract for like $9 mill per year? We bought about as big a name in the off-season money could buy not named urban Meyer. Now will he pan out idk. But it was a proven college coach who was just in the NFL so you can’t act like we hired mike Riley again

  8. I think it's time we finally admit that Frost didn't "turn around" UCF. They posted seasons of 10 wins, 12 wins, and 9 wins before he got there. There was the one absolute blunder year that had tons of internal strife, and then he just brought them back to where they were before under O'Leary. They didn't have years of sustained mediocrity. They had a solid program that just so happened to have one lone shockingly bad year.

  9. Texas and Illinois both won 5 games their first year. That Frost person won 6 he must be good. Lets hire him.

  12. I think the. "the 2nd string guy can't be that bad" comments are not remembering history all that well. All one has to look at is the Texas Tech debacle where Callahan, basically said you want the backup, you got him. And last year or the year before when Frost benched Martinez and started McCaffery and he proceeded to piss down his leg under pressure. I'm sure there are others out there, but those are two off the top of my head. 2nd string QBs are there for a quarter or two if your main guy goes down, that's it. There are very few programs in the country that could trot out their 2nd string QB and keep winning.

  13. I jumped off the Frost bandwagon about a couple years in, so I feel fair in saying that obviously it would be insane to even consider firing Rhule at this point. I think what a lot of this comes from for you and other fans is justified though in being concerned, because the fact is this: For the past 20 years, we have watched other programs immediately jump from being garbage to excellent in the span of one or two seasons. Heck, even Pelini took us immediately to 9 wins his first season (his problem being that his floor and his ceiling were one in the same). Every year, we watch a program who has floundered suddenly put it together and succeed again. Look at Tennessee last year. Hell, look at Texas, who fell down and now is back up again. The simple fact is, of all the blue bloods who had a tumble, outside of maybe Miami (which to me is inexplicable) we are the only one who has continued to struggle for so long. We haven't even gotten the joy of one truly great season. We have had to essentially eat s#!t for 20 years, with only two seasons even approaching what I'd consider great in 2009 and 2010, and even then they did not get there. I was 8 years old when we last even won a conference championship, and I am 32 now. That's absurd to me. Literally no one save a few non-traditional students in UNL's undergraduate program was alive when we were last good. None. So, this fanbase is right to be absolutely frustrated, because frankly, it does seem like horses#!t that everyone else gets to actually bounce back, even if just for one season, but we don't.

  15. Interesting premise, but you lost all credibility when you brought race and Donald Trump into the conversation. There are many black head coaches who, when given their opportunity, did an average job. I'm thinking specifically of Willie Taggert, Turner Gill and Kevin Sumlin. Hiring a black coach isn't some guaranteed path to a winning record and championships. Race should never be a factor when deciding who to hire; who gives us the best chance at winning should. As far as Donald Trump goes, I have no idea what he has to do with college football and the Husker football program. It seems like you have a racial/political agenda. As far as Adidas, their designs suck; boring and uninspiring. Nike and Jordan have far superior designs and creative teams. But I will say this: Adidas make great soccer cleats.

  16. I agree. Trev is a good AD, and is certainly much better than Bill Moos. That being said, he hired a coach with the strategy that they would try and take players that aren't very talented or rated very highly and "develop" them into a good football product. It's a dangerous strategy - if it doesn't work, years of bad football players pile up and it becomes all that much more difficult to correct. That being said, the reality of Nebraska is that they probably can't recruit enough talent no matter who they hire and they have no choice but to go the route of "development". Trev knows the recruiting limitations of Nebraska and the caliber of player they can realistically recruit. This is coming from probably the most negative poster in the recruiting forums who regularly complains about the quality of players Nebraska is bringing into the program. It just isn't good enough.

  19. Even if Rhule doesn't work out, this absolutely is not on Trev, who has done everything on his end so far exactly as I would want a good athletic director to do. He doesn't take bs, he is all business, he doesn't care if its his buddy that has a position, either put up results or get lost. It's been a while since we had such an AD. And if you see my other posts, you know I'm very much not an understanding type, so take what I say seriously here: Trev is not the problem. Not one bit. Can that change in the future? Sure. But right now, I don't see anything that has concerned me, nothing where I'm like "What the hell was that?"

  23. Nebraska is tied for first with Tennessee with 11 sacks. They are number 8 in rush defense. Unfortunately the are ranked mid 70's for total defense. I also noticed the 3rd down percentage is also in the 70's. Defense needs to get off the field on 3rd down. Seems like MN and CO moved the ball down field until they reached the redzone and then the defense (for the most part) bucked up. Shorter field and all that I get but they can't let every team extend drives. Too many mistakes will happen. Also if nobody noticed Gbayor had himself a pretty good game.

  24. Ah yes, the highly accomplished and highly respected athletic director who conducted a thorough and methodical search involving an outside firm that specializes in expertise in analytics in regards to coaching hires is...*checks notes* oh right, in over his head. Of course, checks out. No idiocy detected in that assessment at all. /s

  25. We never hire elite assistants. We never think about Adidas costing us elite talent. We never hire a Black head coach. We never have an elite throwing QB, always with a “dual threat” leftovers. We never maximize our spending and resources to get the Dylan Raiola type QB. Nebraska really has turned into the flyover state for big time recruits. Deion was the perfect hire for a quick turn around and we didn’t even try. Nebraska will never be good again because of Nebraskans. We are probably getting Trumped as far as NIL goes, saying we have the money when we don’t.

  29. I don't even know what this means. But my vote did help lead to this which shows domestic investment into American manufacturing: Well a lot of energy production depends on economic growth - economic sectors use more energy than individuals do at their houses. So population growth by itself doesn't require that much energy unless an economy is there to employ them. Luckily the economy is booming. Leading the Department of Energy to declare below, you are welcome: The same is true for energy sources like Wind, Solar and Natural Gas. Fortunately Democrats don't make economic policy based on vibes or polls. So while political tribalism causes Republican voters like yourself to report that the sky is falling - there is no penetrating the alternative reality you live in - actual data shows remarkable economic resilience. Unemployment continues to hover at a multi-decade low and inflation is the lowest in the world. But there is no making the conservative mind happy. Newsflash - inflation was going to happen whoever was President. There are a lot more things my vote had done to help people. Lowering drug costs, lowering student loan payments, lowering the amount government pays for drugs, etc. Let's check in on what your vote accomplished:

  30. I'm really kind of sick of this type of statement. We have NO clue what the conversation are behind the scenes as it relates to Grant and fumbling. Stop speaking your myths into reality. For all we know Grant was hurt last week. For all we know Grant packed his bags and quit the team because he didn't want to play anymore For all we know Grant and Rhule have an agreement in place, setup by Grant to not play until he doesn't fumble once in practice all week. Who knows, we certainly don't.

  31. Kinda. Still, Tom inherited a national championship program that got on TV a lot, back when that actually meant something. He kept winning, which helps bring in winners. Also, we used to prioritize the OL more than we do now. But Tom had several built-in advantages that are long gone now. It's hard to believe in hindsight, but Bill Callahan had a reputation for recruiting. Mike Riley did too, and Corvallis was considered a tough sell to recruits. NFL pros and fellow coaches sent their kids to be coached by Riley at Nebraska. Scott Frost was the hottest coach in college football in 2017 and between his OC resume at Oregon and splashy turnaround of UCF, you could legitimately tell recruits that exciting things were going to be happening at Nebraska. Truth is, our recruiting classes have generally been better ranked than the teams on the field. Player development is definitely a thing, but that doesn't mean fluffing up a cast of two stars. We have no more disadvantage in recruiting than several schools that have been out playing us. There are probably a lot of culprits, but I'm starting to wonder of the Husker's multi-coach tradition of running dual threat quarterbacks in a college-specific offense curtails the interest of some recruits with NFL aspirations.

  33. NIU fan here, I come here in peace (and in pieces, after our last game). To be fair, we had a ton of injuries last year including our #1 and #2 QBs and one of our 2 best WRs, and others, so the 3-9 record is somewhat misleading. That said, our O-line was supposed to be good this year but it sucks so far. We look like we're playing in quicksand. We are missing a couple of our best players there but still. Apparently we have zero depth. QB was rushed a lot but not an excuse for 3 INTs against SIU. We'll give Nebraska a run for their money in turnovers (and we rarely force turnovers). We also usually have a good or somewhat good RB, which we seem to be lacking this year. Our QB is mobile but since he's coming off an injury last year he hasn't run much - and he needs to be a threat to run because his passing is inconsistent. Our Defense has been better this year but that bar is so low it's rolling on the floor. We don't get pressure on the QB so he'll probably have all day to throw. We'll have to play way better than we've been to even keep the game close - which I'm hoping we can somehow manage.

  34. That's insanity, I do not care that the other options might be worse, because frankly, how? How could they be worse? How could it really get any worse than 7 turnovers in two games? I suppose 8 turnovers or more, but hell, at that point, what's the difference?
    3 points
  35. There's no reason to believe we can't lose any game. There's also no reason to believe we can't win any game (except Michigan. No way.) Adjustments will be made, enough to win a few games, and that includes rebooting the QB position. In fact, I'll bet we cut turnovers in half this week. Only two! Put a pin in it.

  36. I learned that CO is overhyped, and will get thrashed again with a good defense. I learned I feel bad for NUs defense when Sims keeps putting them back on the field. The offense can only ask to be bailed out so many times before the D says screw it.

  37. It’s kinda like nature, when players are prone to turning the ball over, they tend to “find a way”

  38. With young coaches this is what I say: everybody starts somewhere. Before Tom Osborne was Tom Osborne, or before <insert another coach you like> was <that coach you like>, they were starting out & trying to get their bearings. Satterfield could wind up becoming a great offensive coordinator, it's possible. So it's about whether he fixes it from here forward. It's about whether he keeps doing the same things over and over that aren't working or whether he adjusts. Not going to write the guy off yet. But on the other hand it's fair to say it looks like he just hasn't gotten the team ready so far. Just fix it.

  39. Sims has been turnover prone his entire career. So no it shouldn’t be a shock he is currently turning the ball over, no matter how it happens.

  40. MN also had guys in the back field. Gabe's long run he bounced off a guy who hit him as soon as he had the ball. I'm not saying they haven't had plays where they have blocked well I"m just saying overall I haven't seen that much improvement. A little more push at times. I've seen multiple times already we let a guy go unblocked so the lineman can get to the second level but they go to the second level and don't block anyone. Have also seen where they are trying to set up a block and take a bad angle and barely touch the defender. I do feel like they will get better as the season goes on tho.

  43. Starting Point: I need to see the QB's throwing the ball like they aren't scared to throw it. Velocity, tight spirals, follow through. You are playing big time CF, you have to be past the point of aiming and short arming passes on intermediate routes. If nothing else, this makes the coaches look incompetent. Second: I don't care what else they can do or how raw they are, I need to find out which of these freshman have the speed to at least threaten an opponent deep. Third: I'm looking at Greg Roman's offense, identifying where there is overlap, building off that, and trying to mimic it to the extent possible for the remainder of the season. Lastly: I'm probably putting up some hard guard rails on how many pass plays Sat can call per game and which down and distances I'm willing to let him call a drop back pass. Like 3rd & 4+

  44. I mean... Casey Thompson scored as many points on Ohio as Long Island University did. And Sims had a better completion percentage, more yards per attempt, fewer interceptions and a better QBR on Saturday.

  46. There’s 2 or 3 coaches max that could change the roster the way Sanders did. Heck maybe only Deion himself. So the response is to piss and moan all over the place because we didn’t get one of the few coaches that could even think about pulling that maneuver? And then it gets put in a thread about Trev being in over his head? Bulls#!t. I understand being unhappy with our results for the last two decades but I think all these threads b!^@hing because Rhule isn’t Sanders are ridiculous. Deion will be at CU for about 3 years max (same as he would’ve been at NU). Personally I’m not a fan of the look at me Prime approach even if it is yielding short term results. Here’s an idea. Anybody that loves Deion that much can become a CU fan. The rest of us will get over it.
