  1. Oh great, so he's clearly an Iowa mole sent to destroy the athletic department!

  4. More like the board was in no hurry, Trev wanted Gold and told them to pull the trigger. They continued to take their time like they wanted, Trev bails, they hire the guy 6 days later just to spite Trev and make him look even more stupid. Love it. Truly, there is no place like Nebraska.

  5. What a douche. It’s like your wife divorces you out of nowhere for a rich Texan and then calls you to tell you that she’s glad you’re dating again. F that guy. I wish he’d keep Nebraska out of his mouth. You’re gone, be gone.

  6. Oddly, this does not seem to be the case. Which makes Trev's decision even more strange.

  7. So he was at UW for under 6 months and bounced? Was that in an interim role? Just wondering what would keep him from doing the same thing if another program comes calling while he's at Nebraska.

  8. Not sure about the specific assertion from Madcows post, but I think it was a more indirect problem in that reducing funds to the university all of the sudden meant that the athletic department was competing with the school for donation dollars from the same pools of donors who A. don't have unlimited vaults of gold and B. were confused on what things they should and shouldn't be donating to.

  9. They don't, but someone has to throw the ball for the WRs. A lot of times it's alumni or the current QB, we just don't really have any of those. Martinez coming back would be a bit odd, Thompson is somewhere else, and the guys working out in front of scouts would have been wise to politely decline Haarberg throwing to them.

  10. Reduced revenue from the state because Pillen didn't get his way? If that's what is being said.....Nebraskans really need to think about who they vote for in that office.

  12. I don't remember people thinking the Pedersen hire was a mistake at the time. Pretty much the opposite. Pedersen was the Husker native who made good at Pittsburgh and earned a national profile, and was now returning home to right the ship. He had everyone's endorsement, including Tom Osborne's.

  13. This is a confusing deal for me .... Moos is great. Way better than the red-haired assassin and he brought us great coaches like Scott and Fred. Then Frost sucks. And Moos is a drunk Trev HIRED. He is the greatest and he's a true Husker Trev brought us a great coach in Matt Rhule and is going to make a move to get rid of Fred soon Trev bolts for A&M so he's a traitor and terrible. Fred takes NU to the NCAA so he gets an extension without the need to see if this is one year and then back to the bad deal We hire UW's AD. He's a true midwestern guy. But didn't we think Moos had a midwestern mindset UW guy understands the Big 10 but led programs that played in the Mo Valley and the American UW guy left his post after only months of employment, no big deal UW guy has strong ties to Ruhle and that's a good thing. Soooo. If Fred struggles in the next couple years, he's gone. And the extension was another bad extension for NU in a history of bad extensions and was given while we didn't even have a full time AD in place. If Matt struggles, then it was bad that he had a hand in the AD deal because he was trying to insulate himself with HIS guy If the AD gets bounced or leaves it was a bad decision to make with leadership in flux. Matt will then be a pro guy who didn't get Nebraska And the AD will have been a bad hire too somehow Follow the bouncing ball. Everyone is loyal until they are not loyal. And every Husker fan needs to be loyal and can't be frustrated by the constant musical chairs and varying opinions on this stuff.

  15. This is just pure speculation on my part but I wonder if Gold had been in play this whole time but was getting blocked for political reasons. Alberts leaves, the BoR realizes they need to get their poop in a group, pushes forward the guy everyone wanted in the first place.

  21. https://www.statepress.com/article/2024/03/lawsuit-goldwater-anderson-dei# The lawsuit references a state law that states that a state agency "may not require an employee to engage in training, orientation, or therapy that presents any form of blame or judgment on the basis of race, ethnicity or sex." I wondered when DEI program lawsuits would start. The interesting part is that this law was probably put in place to protect minorities and LGBTQ.

  26. Well, it was weird having 2 people assume my reply meant I didn’t know what BB was. Nothing about my reply should lead someone to think that. It is funny having Cheney say it. There is nothing complicated to “get” about it. But my reply still stands. It’s telling that even an a$$h@!e like him knows Trump is a threat to the U.S.

  27. Um. I know it’s satire. But this is an actual quote of D.ick Cheney, and satire can be done poorly, and often is by Babylon Bee. Also, nothing about the Tweet is satirical. I glanced at the link and the article is. The tweet is using an (almost) actual quote and stating a fact about Cheney (which is funny on its own, so maybe this is just lazy, easy satire. But either way, if this a$$h@!e thinks Trump is bad, that should tell you something). Here is the actual one: “There has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” On Cheney doing worse, so far, probably. Way worse, I don’t think so. It’s hard to tell how much damage Trump has done at this point, and he can still do a lot more, and wants to. One thing he’s done that’s difficult to measure the consequences of this early is drastically changed the GOP. I already disagreed with most of their policy but now they are much worse than proponents of bad policy.

  28. Remember when Graham posted this? He was vehemently against Orange Man Bad. And then suddenly... he wasn't. Wonder what they have on Lindsey that made him tuck tail and work for the guy who he said this about:

  29. From things I've heard the BoR where stuck between Gold and Tom Briese. Briese is who Pillen wanted, who fit his conservative views more, Gold is the better candidate, but there is now some fear about reduced revenue from the state.

  30. If you go to www.hardcorehusky.com you can view what that fanbase is saying. Mostly, he didn't fit in because he's not liberal enough and is not a DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) guy. That said, they obviously aren't happy about his departure nor would we if in their shoes. They're saying many of the same things we said like.. wth good is contract these days.. etc

  34. This seems to be a mutually welcome hire. As shocked as we were when Trev abruptly left, as it turns out... we may have upgraded ADs in just over a week. Matt Rhule: “I’m so fired up about this hire. Interim President Kabourek has found exactly the right person to lead the Huskers forward. Troy sees what we see – that Nebraska is a special place, with special people, a great vision and the courage to be unabashed about wanting to win across the board. The fact that someone of Troy’s caliber wants to join Team Nebraska will light a fire across our entire department. Let’s go!” Troy Dannen: “Joining the Nebraska family is truly an honor. My family and I are humbled by the opportunity to be part of such a proud athletics program, institution, community and state. Growing up in Iowa, I watched a lot of Nebraska football on Saturdays with my family. I’ve spent a lot of time in the state and I’ve found that we share a similar approach to life, work and sports: Work hard, stay humble, compete and expect to win. “There is a storied tradition at Nebraska, but more work to be done. I truly believe our best years are ahead of us. I couldn’t be more grateful to Interim President Chris Kabourek for this opportunity. Chris has championed an inspiring vision for excellence across the University of Nebraska and he and I are completely aligned on where Nebraska needs to go in the future. I look forward to doing my part to helping Nebraska win championships across the board, graduate our student-athletes and elevate the world-class reputation of the University of Nebraska. I can’t wait to arrive in Nebraska and get to work.”

  36. Our NATO allies were in country with us up until the end. I don't think the American public would tolerate leaving troops in Afghanistan (but I think they'd be shocked to know we still have troops in Iraq). That would basically be a continuation of the status quo for the last 10 years. I think the reality is that the Trump administration royal f#&%ed up the negotiations. The Biden administration made the right call to continue the withdrawal, but the planning and execution (outside of the military operations) was very poor. Biden probably should have restarted negotiations with the Afghan government and the taliban... But short of restarting the war I don't think there was anyway to keep Kabul from falling, and at that point there was no way to prevent the tragic events of the Afghanistan people at the walls of the airport. The 13 final soldiers that were killed is tragic, but they (and their families) are being used as political pawns now. The reality is they could have been killed regardless of what actions were taken and when, because it was an ISIS attack, not the taliban.

  37. We're hiring an Athletic Director before we hire a President? Seems odd, since the BoR put the President directly in charge of the AD last year. And this news breaks literally while the Board of Regents are meeting to (possibly) name a priority candidate for President. Weird timing.
