Notre Dame Joe
Wed 27 Jan 2021 15.18 EST Quote The slew of executive actions direct the Department of the Interior to pause new oil and gas leases on public lands and offshore waters and launch a “rigorous review of all existing leasing”, according to a White House planning document. .... The orders also establish an environmental justice interagency council to address the racial and economic inequities exacerbated by climate change and air and water pollution. ... In all, the climate package is a strong repudiation of the Trump administration, which consistently sidelined or derided climate science, dismantled policies designed to lower emissions and withdrew from the Paris climate deal. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jan/27/joe-biden-climate-change-executive-orders Quote SALT LAKE CITY (March 24, 2021) – Today, Utah Attorney General Sean D. Stopping leases on Federal land isn't the biggest deal because there are thousands of other leases available companies can use of they wish. The problem with the oil and gas industry is that it's a dying business. Banks don't want to lend money to companies to expand into new projects because the demand for oil will drop as Electric Vehicles gain larger market share over the next two decades. What the oil and gas industry wants is government aid to facilitate the loans and to guarantee business for the new projects beyond a very short time. Oil and gas is dying, everybody knows it. In 20 years, most countries will have laws in place banning the sale of gas vehicles. Banks won't lend them money because it's no longer a great business. The government should not prop up a dying business under the terms the companies are requesting. 1 2 Link to comment

ZRod
@Stumpy1 it won't die, but it will go the way of coal. People fail to realize that almost all their consumer goods require oil, plastics are everywhere. That being said the portion of a barrel of oil used for plastic is less than 10% I think. nic
“Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that oil is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.” We can still stop importing from Russia and help make their energy industry die a pre-mature death. Of course China may decide to make up the difference by switching some of their imports from US to Russia. We have a new Axis. 1 1 Link to comment
nic
We may not have state media, but we have a bias media. This is some good shade thrown at Putin from independent media in Russia. On the other hand it means the threats against journalists win. I am not sure if Russians watching this media outlet will get it and do something. 1 Link to comment
