Mavric
Quote Over the weekend, EA Sports and Collegiate Licensing Co., agreed to a settlement with plaintiffs (note the presiding judge must still agree to the terms) led by former UCLA basketball player Ed O’Bannon for $40 million in the first of a long series of lawsuits aiming to give players a cut of the NCAA’s massive television and multimedia contracts. The settlement includes payments for athletes’ likenesses in football and basketball games dating as far back as 2003, which means as many as 200,000 former players are eligible for some sort of payout. O’Bannon and former Nebraska quarterback Sam Keller – who both got this ball rolling back in 2009 – will receive $15,000, a handful of others who joined the suit later will receive payouts of $5,000 or $2,500, and the rest of the class will receive as much as $951 and as little as $48 for each year their likeness appeared in an EA Sports game, depending on how many former players join the suit. Scott and Zach had wildly different reactions to this news. Rather than just debate and argue in private conversation, we trapped both of them in the octagon and decided to hash this out in a point/counterpoint style. Quote Link to comment
Hedley Lamarr
they should have just sent them all a free copy each year... 1 Quote Link to comment
B.B. Hemingway
Maybe we can get the f****** game back now! 3 1 Quote Link to comment
knapplc
I can't wait to read the well-reasoned and respectful takes about Sam Keller from this thread. 2 3 2 Quote Link to comment
RedSavage
I thought this was over with and they'd already been paid. I'm too lazy to go back and look but I think those amounts are in line with what was expected. Which is why I thought it was stupid to begin with. Ruined a good thing and for what? A measly max payout of $15k. What a joke. 2 1 1 Quote Link to comment
StPaulHusker
I wonder if they knew they were only going to get $15K for their likeness and also kill an entire video game platform would they do it all over again. 1 Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
Good, they deserve it. 4 Quote Link to comment

Hans Gruber
I will hate Sam Keller forever for taking away my yearly NCAA football video game. 3 2 Quote Link to comment
BigRedBuster
I've always found it fascinating how people don't care if a company does something it shouldn't do by using something that isn't theirs and someone is wronged while creating a game....if it's a great game. 6 1 Quote Link to comment
Guy Chamberlin
That money will buy a lot of Everclear and Xanax, and everyone knows Keller has a problem with that. Quote Link to comment
The Dude
I bet when he did this he expected a couple more zeros at the end of that check. Better than nothing, I guess. Enjoy your used Silverado. 3 Quote Link to comment
Redux
Just glad it's over. I'm still not thrilled the game has been gone for almost a decade, I still partly blame Sam. Is it part of why I don't like him? Damn skippy. But other factors include his personal problems, pompous attitude and his erratic play at QB. 1 Quote Link to comment
mnhusker
Buddy of mine who is a game developer put my name a jersey for fun. Maybe I can get some $. (Of course I would have a hard time saying the athlete in the game is my likeness given). Quote Link to comment
