If 23 wins, it goes up to 80.1%. 24 wins puts it up to 96.1%. This basically is what many on here have been saying. It obviously depends on who those wins are against, and it depends on other teams, but basically 3 more wins and Nebraska should feel pretty good, 4 more and I don't see how the committee keeps them out.

I understand the need for the position in today's college football. Now that the NCAA officially allows support staff to watch film and scout players, someone needs to oversee that and coordinate the efforts to find recruits that fit what the staff wants. If it's a similar role as Devaney had, then he'll also help with roster balancing as well as preparing recent Nebraska grads for the NFL combine/interviews, or even help them with other post-graduate opportunities. Just because it failed with the last staff doesn't make this a bad hire. All of the things I listed above are good things, if the right person is doing it the right way.

Am I the only one who winces when he reads that we're apparently hiring "a veteran of the NFL ranks"? Like, oh I dunno, the director of player personnel we just got rid of, Billy Devaney? And an administrator from Tennessee? After the dumpster fire we just witnessed from their administration?

I grew up with guns around the house, although my folks were generally pacifists. Guns were just tools that we rarely used. I have kids of my own now, and don't have a single gun in the house. I'm not making a statement. I just can't think of a scenario where I will really need that tool, and I can think of lots of scenarios where that tool will have a tragic impact on my family.

There is not an athletic department in the country who wouldn't sell their new hire as a coach who can take the team to the next level immediately. It's not even a "sell." It's standard operating procedure. Pick any coach we could have hired not named Mike Riley. Imagine selling him as a guy who might take a couple steps back while transitioning from the Pelini years. Did the last guy have experience at the high school and college levels? I seem to remember him being a nfl lifer who even said he had never watched nor knew how to evaluate high school players. At least this guy has done the job he's being asked to do before.

He was in the game the last 3 minutes of that 5 minute field goal drought. Rewatch the game, they had plenty of decent looks during that drought, not much Miles can do about guys not knocking down shots.

This is the first 20 win regular season for Nebraska in 25 years. The sixth 20 win season in more than 100 years of basketball history. That's a tad embarrassing, so maybe we give Tim Miles a bit more credit and a little less second-guessing.

Looking at the guy's experience here are what I see as positives: -- Vast high school coaching experience in Michigan (Big Ten country) -- Number of years in scouting department in the NFL. People need to realize that this is entry-level work for NFL teams. They are evaluating college kids and supporting the GM and coaches with drafting and college free agents. Just because the Browns have sucked for so long, doesn't mean that this guy should be getting all the blame. He is not making the final decisions on who to draft and play. -- During his time at Tennessee, I think they had fairly highly ranked recruiting classes (someone can correct me if I am wrong). I don't think Tennessee's issues were talent the past few years, it was more talent management and in-game decisions. I understand that a lot of us have a sour taste in our mouth's from the Billy Devaney era. I am one of those people!!! As long as this new guy doesn't wield the power that Devaney had over Riley, then I think this guy could be a good hire. I hope Frost is smart enough to use this guy as "support" for him and the coaching staff, but the decisions of whom to recruit and offer scholarships should come from the coaching staff.

Listening to Sharp & Benning... It was stated they squatted out of season and made gains but in season Riley didn’t want them lifting too much for fear of injury. Mark Phillip’s hands were tied. Some guys did squat and commit to weights in season but the accountability and requirement was not there so some guys got lazy and didn’t lift like they should have. They also weren’t required to eat 3 meals a day at the training table and were eating bad foods. The body fat on these guys was way too high. They lost muscle mass as the season went on and thus lost mental confidence. When they did squat it was an assisted Olympic type. Now they are doing old school bar on the back squats and it’s being required with accountability for all linemen consistently. All the team is also required to eat 3 meals a day from the training table to eliminate a lot of the bad food options they were choosing.

This is the part that Trump is to stupid and egotistical to understand. Putin is NOT his friend.

I thought you were not suppose to have any expectations for a year 1 coach? All I want is to see growth and improvement and a top 15 recruiting class heading into year two.

The Huskers have quietly been one of the better stories of the 2017-18 season. Seems like it wasn’t that long ago that there was a lot of talk about Tim Miles being on the hot seat and that players were unhappy. Then again, winning is the cure for just about anything and at 19-8 overall and 10-4 in the Big Ten there’s been lots of winning. What has really stood out to me is the player development of those in Lincoln. Miami transfer James Palmer is one of the most improved players in college basketball, former five-star Isaac Copeland is figuring things out and the guy who is really starting to stand out to me is sophomore Isaiah Roby. He’s not yet totally consistent but I see a lot of versatility there and think he’ll be a star in the Big Ten before it’s all said and done.

Here are a few quotes: Frost has gone on record saying that he wants to bring in about 150 players on his roster suggesting that 10 coaches could easily make such practices efficient. Brown not only agrees, he remembers practices like that during his time as a player. “When I was on defense, at one of our stations there were three groups of offenses coming at us after each play would end. We had to hurry up and get back before the next play getting snapped off. I’m watching other stations where the offense is running the option, throwing plays, it’s so fast-paced. There were four or five stations going on and everybody’s rotating in, everyone’s blocking hard, everyone’s doing their job, everyone’s competing.” Scott Frost’s system is so hard to stop if he gets the right quarterback in place, everybody buying in. You see all these speedsters coming in at the wide receiver spot, good running backs. If Shawn Eichorst fired Bo Pelini for petty personal reasons rather than football program reasons, one of the many Power 5 programs with a coaching vacancy the last three years surely would have swept in and taken advantage of Shawn's mistake. Think of all the ADs who could have told their fans they were hiring the coach with the most 9 win seasons outside of Nick Saban. But that didn't happen. Bo Pelini can barely sniff a rumor. College football came to the same conclusion as Shawn Eichorst. The last three years haven't made anyone happy. But if you go back to the 2015 threads, the fantasy was for Mike Riley to keep the seat warm for Scott Frost to get up and running. That scenario required perfect timing, and that's how it worked out. So I'm totally good with jacking the expectations up. Scott Frost is, too. That's why we wanted a Nebraska guy. Should be fun.

A 6-6 record would not excite me whatsoever. But it wouldn't have to because I know what this staff is capable of doing in year 2. But if we manage to lose 6 it's going to raise some questions. I don't consider the 4-8 record a representation of the team considering almost everyone, staff and players, had given up by November.
