Frost was trying to bring in bigger WR’s, they just couldn’t land them. Part of the reason Walters was let go and Lubick brought in. The TE’s on the roster aren’t fast enough to get deep, down the middle like Frost wants, and still be able to block. It will be interesting with Vokalek eligible in 2020 and Hickman developing into a hybrid TE/WR for the offense.6 points

I agree that 40+ ppg is a great long-term goal for Frost's offense, but only 8 teams achieved that in 2019. Going from 28 PPG to 35 points per game would be a 25% increase YoY, and NU would go from 72nd to top 20 (based on 2019 rankings).4 points

Holy cow, if AM was "bad" last year than people need to watch more football. He was definitely average, he definitely didn't live up to the talent we saw as a freshmen and he certainly had some bad plays/decisions. However, I don't think he was all around "bad" at all.4 points

There being talent on the team and their not being enough talent are not mutually exclusive.3 points

Sorry, but the math doesn't lie. We ended drives at: W 34 yard line - Downs W 24 yard line - missed field goal W 15 yard line - downs W 1 yard line - downs We lost by 16 points. To say we would have won if we could score in the red zone and a kicker is a very realistic opinion. Just the last three would have been 17 points (assuming the W 24 yard line drive ended in a FG). Then, if we kick into the end zone, we don't allow a kick return for a TD. Heck...if the last three are field goals and we have kickoffs in the end zone, that's 16 points right there. You can beat the defense mantra all you want. They weren't perfect that day...but, they were playing a dang good offense too (#23 in the country scoring). But, kicking and red zone scoring was thee main problem that day.3 points

I don't mean any offense by this, but your comments are a microcosm of showing the difference between where we actually are and where we think we should have easily been. In reality, we are so far out of Wisconsin's league when you take into account the past three dumpster fire seasons; our two programs are in two completely different area codes. I see no silver linings or caveats that indicate we're closer than the results have shown.3 points

I won't go over every offensive weapon he lost as that's been covered extensively. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is he was running the entire playbook and he was being asked to think a lot more. Right or wrong, AM was given a LOT more to think about, including preserving himself. The kids is a competitor and my money is on him making a big jump back this season for 3 reasons. He should be completely comfortable with what he is asked to do this season. He will have a larger, more talented supporting cast of skill players. Lastly, our coaches can call plays that may put him in harm's way since the QB room is finally talented and deep. I believe the hesitation we saw last year disappears and he looks much closer to the year 1 guy we saw with many of the rookie mistakes removed. GBR3 points

AM 2.0 was not as good as AM 1.0. I don't think that is debatable. BUT, he was injured throughout 2019. He had a brand new center. He was without Foster and Farmer on the OL. No Stan or Oz, an eventually hobbled Wan'dale, a quadrupled covered JD, no deep passing threat, the TE game was MIA, Mo packed in before he was told to pack it in etc......It was the perfect storm of what could go wrong did. I think that we have a true QB competition this year. I still think it's AM's to lose, but IMHO, he will not be given the latitude he was last year. You have Vedral in year 4 or 5 of Frost's system, Luke year 2 etc.....I do not think Frost will hitch his wagon to AM like he did last year. If AM 1.0 shows up and the skill guys step up (new guys as JD/Wan'dale are known) our O could be very prolific. I'm still not seeing top 10, but I never saw us going 4-8 and 5-7 either....3 points

If the "tracks" are what separate Manhattan from New Jersey, you could kinda make the case that young Don built upon his father's highly successful operation with some bold and risky plays in New York that paid of handsomely for awhile. If you want to roll up your sleeves and vet the business savvy of Donald Trump, he went on wildly over-reach and overestimate himself, going into multiple bankruptcies, including losing his Atlantic City casino. It's actually hard to lose money on casino. Having watched his son's stewardship of the company he founded, Fred Trump drafted legal directives to severely limit Donald's power at Trump Enterprises. When Fred died in 1999, Donald sued to regain power, and within 18 months had driven his father's company completely out of business. Donald was so notorious for defaulting on loans and screwing contractors that by the time he re-invented himself for The Apprentice, almost no legitimate financial institution would work with him. Of course there are also the 15 companies Donald Trump started, bearing his name and selling everything from business degrees, to water, to steaks. 100% of them went out of business. Many of The Trump Organizations current real estate "holdings" don't reflect property they own. They are far too cash poor and compromised to purchase anything, simply lending their name and development team to the real players. If you want to see how this plays out in some incredibly unsavory ways, Google "Trump Hotel in Baku." I think someone else did the calculation that if Donald Trump had taken the money his dad gave him and dropped it into the average money market account, he'd be considerably wealthier today.2 points

True, but IMO Jaimes, Farniok, Wilson, etc are talented enough for use to do better than 5-7. We don't need to match Wisconsin's o-line this year to compete with them, I think Frost has shown he can outscheme Leonhard to a point. We put up 518 yards (mostly passing) in 2018, and 493 (mostly rushing) last year. We just need the defense to be a bit better, and our o-line to be good enough to turn more of the yards into points. To consistently win the West we want our o-line to be at that level, but I don't think we can't win it until they are. We've gotten to the point where we're saying next year before this one starts! Not disagreeing, just funny. Year 1 we were always looking to year 2, but then when that went south it was year 3 - and we haven't even touched that one yet but it's 4 now.2 points

This is so true. It wasn't that he was bad or terrible or what ever. He needed to take a step forward and be better than he was the year before and he didn't do that. He took 1 step back basically and was fairly average. There were probably a lot of reason's for this, all of which have been discussed. Injuries to him, missing WR and RB from year before and replacing 2 key offensive linemen. This team needed a good to great AM to have a really good season and they didn't get it.2 points

Surprised to see Marquis Black on this list over Nash - I do think Black has the chance to be a surprise/steal of this class down the road who is a bit underrated. Surprised to not see Keyshawn Greene on the list at LB.2 points

First I’m pretty sure I said he didn’t play well last yr. I’ve also stated I’m in favor of a competition not just at qb but every position every yr. I’m just saying in a legitimate competition it is still AM to lose and no that’s not because he’s “frosts guy”. Pretty sure frost recruited vedral, mccaffrey, and smothers so they are all “frosts guys”. Question though. How difficult would it be to be qb in a system that has a limited rushing game, low trust in wrs to be where they are supposed to be, and an oline that provided some of the best look out blocks in the country last yr. all while doing this with an injured shoulder that required off season surgery. My point is we’ve seen good AM, outside of jd the wr group was meh, the rbs were new, and the oline had the usual suspects in Wilson, hixson, and farniok you could always see were out of position or we should have better at the position. I think it says a lot that a player in the two deep at guard chose to transfer to the talent that is coming up. so I’ve said AM didn’t play well, but that isn’t in a bubble. AM had an excellent frosh season, hence the heisman talk. The others around him were unproven or had proven they were lacking. Therefore, AM has a bit more rope than say hixson, Wilson, or say mike Williams. The bigger issue is we had more of the hixsons and the Williams on the field last yr with AM than the Sunday stans and oz’s of the previous yr.2 points

With a young and struggling o-line and no deep threat among the receivers, it’s difficult to throw the ball down field to keep the defense honest. Martinez also struggled to make an accurate throw and to the appropriate receiver downfield. The swing pass topic has been beaten to death.2 points

we could start 6-1. We could also go undefeated and win the national championship. I mean, none of the games on the schedule are unwinnable. But where you end up is more than just the individual games put together - it's a cumulative/momentum/emergent thing that arises over time and chances.2 points

I always find these thought processes interesting. Basically, what you’re saying is, Frost and Verduzco know Vedral is better but still have him at #3. Sorry, no.2 points

Like coming from the wrong side of the tracks, building an empire on the 'right' side, and leaving the right people to rail against the wind because you did what they couldn't. Running a large business is only a liability for Ds to the point it is immoral until they get their cut. I'm interested in what Bloomberg did to make NYC a better place and so far alls I've heard is that he's sorry for it.2 points

Nothing wrong with chasing ladies, but I don’t think you can have a fair opinion on Martinez based on only 2019. Everything you liked from McCaffrey did in 4 games, Adrian did it over 10 games. Adrian took a step back in 2019 due to a number of factors, but IMO McCaffrey and Vedral have a lot to do to catch him as the #1 QB.2 points
-
You only watched 2 games from Adrian’s freshman year? No wonder you don’t think he’s any good. While Adrian had plenty of freshman mistakes, but he had some games where he dazzled out there. He had big games against Colorado, Minnesota, Ohio State, Illinois, Northwestern, and Iowa to name a few. You comment that you liked McCaffrey’s play in limited snaps in 2019, well Adrian was just as electric and a leader as the full-time starter in 2018. Side point, what kind of Husker fan only watches 2 games of an entire season? That makes no sense to me.2 points

I wouldn't mind if he would just now go sit on the bench and enjoy watching the game.2 points

If that doesn't typify this season... they make the first three with a second left on the shot clock and they make a second three with a tenth of a second left on the game clock. I'm going to my dictionary to look up snake -bit and expecting to see hoiberg's mug...1 point

Reminds me when I was young on the farm. Me, sister and brother would pile on the back of our Buck Sheep and I would hold a branch in front of me with leaves on it. He could never quite get those leaves but he kept walking and the 3 of us would get a nice ride on his back. Back to the cartoon - all too true.1 point

That's a fair point but often if its a called give there won't be a read/unblocked defender. If there is an unblocked defender at the LOS its an indication of a read type play.1 point

I'm like Scott Frost, pot committed to AM. I spent all last season arguing with friends and family that he's exactly the horse I thought he was as a Freshman, he just had a slump year and will bring us offensive riches in 2020 and 2021.. I need to be right about this because I dug my heels in deep.1 point

I'm not confusing anything. These companies pay Social Security, Medicare, and Federal Unemployment taxes in addition to what employees themselves must pay for those taxes. Those are Federal taxes, and as far as I can tell it's not factored into these numbers.. I think it's a pretty safe bet to say that 99.9% of the time the employee would still never see that money even if there wasn't a tax. The argument that these companies pay no Federal taxes as stated in the tweet is false. It's bordering on yellow journalism. They may not be paying a corporate income tax for various reasons, but they do infact pay taxes every year. We don't need to distort the truth to have a discussion about corporate tax rates. The numbers speak for themselves without the sensationalist headlines.1 point
