  4. Mickey Joseph isn't coming here to coach WRs if we are going back to an option based offense with an OC from Army.

  5. I'm not even sure what you're getting at now. I feel like you're using the fact that other teams have good records as an excuse that we're 3-9. Tell me if I'm wrong. We're bad at football, doesn't matter if they're good, it's still on our coaches to make us a good football team that won't lose 9 games a year.

  6. You're talking yourself in circles, and confusing scheme with coaching and technique. It's been apparent since the first game of the year that our Oline has been poorly coached and has poor discipline. You can find me harping on it all season long. What you want is a killer instinct and hard-nosed attitude from the Oline. Any scheme can achieve that, every coach cannot, and the coach has been fired so we are not going to continue down the same path. We don't run the same offense we did 17 years ago. Why are you comparing that offense to this offense which is more run oriented? We can clearly recruit talented RBs, decent QBs, excellent TEs, good WRs, and sizeable linemen. The missing piece has always been coaching, be it at the top or at the position level. Why would you tear everything down when you are competing with the top teams in the country every week and holding your own despite horrible discipline and piss poor special teams. We need to fix the real issues, not cut our arm off because we smashed our finger in the door. Our struggles in the RedZone highlight our lack of Oline development, as do the amount of penalties and sacks. Fixing the Oline could easily lead to 1 or 2 more TDs per game and a trip to Indy. Even if you don't want to believe it this team is insanely close to being exactly what we want it to be, and that's what's made it so painful this year.

  8. Riley jumping ship before having to coach Oklahoma in the SEC. I honestly think Oklahoma's & Texas' move to the SEC will be similar to Nebraska's current outcome in the Big Ten. Great monetary increase for the school, but a huge step down when it comes to having success on the football field.

  9. So you think we are a top 5ish all time winning program because of a few years in the 70s and 90s? To be one of the winningest programs in college football history means sustained success. There has been 2 stretches of bad football for Nebraska that both have lasted about 20 years. 1940-1960 and 2004-2021. The other 100 years of our program we have been solid. So not sure what your talking about.

  11. Looking up stats on some guys I've seen mentioned, something stood out to me. Kent State and North Texas are currently the #3 and #4 rushing offenses in the country. They're also #106 and #102 for red zone TD percentage. A lot of people equate having a run-heavy offense with being able to easily punch it into the end zone when you're there, but clearly that's not necessarily the case.

  13. Fair enough. One thing I’ve been thinking about is, the problem is clearly that Frost has brought people who’s only experience is working with him. Luckily that worked out ok on the defensive side, but he needs to go outside his immediate tree on these hires. The one hire he’s made outside his prior staffs has been an absolute homerun (Tuoti), so I think he can get these hires done. Also Nagy….doesn’t help lol.

  14. So, some stats are put together purposely to make Huskers look good even though the site is analyzing all teams? No, the stats are looking at different things.

  15. I’m fine if you don’t have the patience to look at these to analyze where we were good and bad at. Nobody has said everything is awesome and nothing needs to change. But, some find looking at this interesting. If you don’t, that’s fine.

  27. Ok, about those 9 losses. We would need 3 more wins for bowl eligibility. Why should we expect it (at minimum) against the teams that have these records? Where are those 3-4 extra wins coming from? Illinois 5-7 Oklahoma 10-2 Michigan State 10-2 Michigan 11-1 Minnesota 8-4 Purdue 8-4 Ohio State 10-2 Wisconsin 8-4 Iowa 10-2

  31. As someone who has harped on our failure to recruit a legit pass rushing OLB for like five years now: right now I'm WAY more worried about finding a replacement for Daniels at NT than I am about pass rushing. Nelson is serviceable as a rusher, but without a legit NT, a 3-4 defense like this just plain will not work. Easy to forget that we had the elder Daniels come in as a grad transfer for a year to anchor the line while his little brother continued to develop. We probably need that for Nash, too.

  32. I'm not hating on him. I'm sure Nash is a great kid, and I want him to succeed at NU. I did find his dad a bit annoying during the recruiting process. I get being proud of your son and doing things to get him noticed/recruited, but Nash's dad was a bit much. I know Nash is a big, strong kid with a wrestling background, but I think he needs a lot of improvement to be anywhere close to how Daniels played this year. I think it would be worth bringing in a JUCO NT or look in the transfer portal for another body.

  33. And then Wan'dale enters portal and comes back to Lincoln.

  34. Spot on! I don't know how it will happen, but I honestly believe somehow the Great Plains schools, specifically the old Big 8 teams will find their way back into some kind of conference together. College football conferences will change dramatically again in the next 10 years, and definitely in the next 25 years. The money has been great for the schools that left their century old conferences, but the fans of many of those teams are beyond disgusted with the actual results on the football field. Nebraska should never, ever be in a "conference game" with the likes of Maryland or Rutgers. I don't know how it will happen but I don't see Nebraska staying in the Big Ten, and I think eventually Oklahoma will tire of being in the SEC.

  36. I like the thought of him moving away from the SEC to play another soft conference.
    3 points
  37. Is it weird though? Go to another fairly soft conference. Go to an area of far richer recruiting grounds. And the icing on the cake, you just don't become another one of Alabama's b!^@hes in the SEC.

  40. Nelson needs to work on his consistency . He has a knack for disappearing. He needs to learn how to do something other than a pure bull rush. I don’t think Ty had a jump like I thought he was gonna have. Also a player who disappears. Rogers may have gotten hurt again I dont think he will last a whole year. unless they got some studs or do some crazy developing I don’t feel confident about DL, LB, or CB/S next season.

  43. In the topsy-turvy world of college football season where the unpredictable happens and reality seems like fiction, the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team and Head Coach Scott Frost has sent a letter to the National College Athletic Association to withdraw their D-1 status in hopes of downgrading to Division III. Also hidden deep within the letter is a recommendation to let the Nebraska Cornhuskers play the song, “Glory Days,” by Bruce Springsteen before every home football game over the stadium PA system. After dropping their ninth loss of the season to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Nebraska fans and players felt defeated and shucked after the game. Many fans were so upset that they started burning their authentic corn husk hats. When asked for comment, Nebraska fan, Jimbob Skeeter said, “We were playing great up until the point where Iowa blocked our punt. I realized then that it’s actually true what everyone in the nation outside of Nebraska was saying about Cornhusker football….we SUCK!” Many fans have recently been calling for Head Coach Scott Frost’s termination, calling him by a new moniker, Scott Fraud. On the Iowa side, Hawkeye Elvis said, “Man, I haven’t seen a hunka hunka beatin’ like that since Rodney King! When we were down 21-9 going into the 4th quarter, it really singed my sideburns. Then, I looked down at Coach Ferentz and saw him smacking on that Bubbalicious bubblegum with confidence. That’s when I knew we’d be okay. Just let Nebraska make Nebraska mistakes and the rest will take care of itself.” When asked for his input, Head Coach Kirk Ferentz stated, “That’s football.” Regarding the letter to downgrade to D-III football, the overall feeling of Nebraska fans is that they think they’d at least have a chance at a 5-7 season if they played in that division. Head Coach Scott Frost was unavailable to comment on the letter. Trev Alberts, Nebraska’s Athletic Director had this to say, “If we can start playing Division III football and if…and that’s a big if, Scott Frost can win at least 5 games, we plan on giving him a 15-year $255 million contract extension just because he’s a Nebraska boy.” When asked about the Cornhuskers’ irrelevance in both the Big Ten and across the college football sphere, Alberts replied, “What? I’ll have to get back to you because I have to go look up the word “irrelevance” in the dictionary.” We asked the NCAA Commissioner’s Office for comment on the letter and a person who chose to speak on the condition of anonymity, but is familiar with the matter said, “This letter holds no weight, just like the Nebraska Cornhuskers can’t hold a lead in their football games.” Update: Upon the publication of this story, we learned that Head Coach Scott Frost was out hunting the day we were conducting interviews. We soon learned that he’s in an undisclosed hospital undergoing treatment for shooting himself in both feet. We wish Coach Frost a speedy recovery.

  46. I find the talk about guys who have one more year of eligibility left as "leaving early" is an odd comment given the most of them only have an extra year of eligibility due to the free COVID year. It's mostly done in the media, but it's still a weird phrasing to me. Most of these guys have been at NU 4-5 years already, so they are probably ready to move on to their next chapter in life. It's nothing like Peter or Wistrom coming back when they could have turned pro after the 1996 season.
