  1. Reporters who ask these kinds of questions should be banned from the press room. They tried this on Frost a few times too, luckily, he didn't bite. Truth is, it's up to the University as who is in the room, if the reporters put the university in the position of potential legal damages due to questions they ask, they should be reprimanded. You cannot expect a single person to be perfect everytime and not slip up, lime Mickey did. It is the reporters job to ask questions, therefore it is their job to ask questions that will not put the university at risk.

  2. Get a clue how coaching changes work. And it's rich you talking to other people about obesssions.

  3. Nebraska draws Michigan again, this time at home, and Michigan State on the road. Iowa draws at Penn State and home for Michigan State. They dodge Ohio State. Since Nebraska joined the Big 10, the Huskers have played Ohio State eight times. Iowa has played the Bucks just three times. How is this fair at all?

  4. Current FEI Rankings for non-conference opponents: Nebraska Michigan Colorado - 121 East Carolina - 47 NIU - 103 UNLV - 106 La. Tech - 114 Bowling Green - 111 Pretty similar, but they do have a legitimately decent opponent and we don't. You can argue Colorado should have been the best team on either schedule when these were put on the calendars, but right now we have the easier non-conference schedule.

  5. Not only that, he's trying to set the program up for success in the future. Targeting JUCO guys to build up the offensive line is a move for next season. Remember that slogan people used to vomit about Scott Frost caring more than anyone blah, blah, blah... Well, here's a guy who actually seems to care about the program.

  7. I don't know what our ceiling would be under Mickey in the long run as a team, but I've seen enough to feel confident that his basement is pretty high. We probably have to win a minimum of 2 of these last 5 for Mickey to get the job, but I really hope it happens for a variety of reasons: -MJ has already put a stronger emphasis on recruiting in state kids than has been done probably since Frank and I expect that to continue if he's the guy -he's proven that he's a grinder like Trev said he's looking for -it's difficult to tell from public statements a lot of times, but all signs point to the fact that the players really like and respect him -MJ is an elite recruiter and would demand that from his staff -of any coach hire, the amount of attrition would probably be the least if Mickey is retained There's a lot of reasons, and him being a former player who deeply cares about Nebraska is just a bonus IMO. I think his personality traits are everything that we all wished Frost was going to be.

  8. Sorry @Hilltop, my bad! You are one of my fav guys, so for sure I will gladly answer. If the Huskers don't win another game this year, Mickey is still the guy for the job. Really listen here.... no matter who the coach is or could be at this time of the year, we have the toughest part of the entire schedule in our face and will not be predicted to win any of these games. From 6-1 Illinois to Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa Aranda, Campbell, Fickel, etc would not have the Huskers favored to win if they were thrown into the same fire and situation. Now if any of those do get hired (I do really like Fickel, Ruhle and Aranda), they get to have an offseason, pick their staff, etc. But these coaches would do no better than Mickey Joseph the rest of this year with the current staff and players. To think so is ridiculous. Maybe let Mickey pick his staff after the season, and run his offense and defense accordingly. Should Mickey win 1 or 2 games with the Huskers obviously underdogs the rest of the way, that will speak volumes. I'd retain him.

  9. It's fair to point out that huge leap in logic. Let's say, 1,000 years from now, there's a religious text stating that the Flying Spaghetti Monster did all these miraculous things, including smiting Earth with a plague in 2020. Archeologists look back into ancient records and discover there was, indeed, a pandemic that year. That would not validate the other claims in that text, nor would it mean the Flying Spaghetti Monster was a real deity. That there was a battle of Jericho is not really up for debate anymore. The archeological record pretty much proves it, within a comfortable margin of error of the Bible-era story. That does not mean the Bible is a historic text, nor does it mean the god described in that Bible is real.

  10. You fire one guy in September and don't have a replacement nearly three months later so they can start recruiting before the initial signing period? Yes, that would be a colossal failure. They can both be colossal failures. There isn't a limit.

  11. It's pretty fun to go back and read the 1,000+ page Scott Frost Megathread from this same time frame a mere five years ago. If you have a few spare hours and minimal self-respect, I recommend it. Q: Who was Nebraska's #1 option if Scott Frost didn't take the job? A: No one. There was no Plan B.

  13. No, I didn't disagree with it. I was chuckling because you said something that disagreed with things you have said in the past. You have said that inflation is Biden's fault when others have pointed out that much of the inflation (at least since the invasion) was caused by the invasion and what it did to the energy markets. You then stated (rightfully, and that I have never disputed) that much of the world inflation was caused by Russia. But.....you continue to parrot the Republican talking point trying to say that....BUT....the inflation in the US is all Biden's fault. See....that's the funny part that makes me chuckle. It exposes your bias of trying to blame everything on Biden.

  16. There is very little chance the announcement waits until January unless it’s a current NFL coach (unlikely hire at this point) or there is a colossal failure in the hiring process. It’s such a small chance that it’s kind of ridiculous it’s even being talked about. The goal is to absolutely have it announced before early signing day. Most head coaching announcements in the FBS happen shortly after the regular season and championship games and before the CFP.

  17. That kind of sounds like Casey is planning to be around next year too.

  18. DS waits to do the announcement on time square immediately following the ball drop while Trev and Bounds sing Auld Lang Syne with an all acoustic band. Lol, in reality the only way the announcement gets pushed to January is if someone backs out and Trev is left scrambling to find someone else.

  20. No, I am ducking from your constant fastballs up and in. Sorry to say this, but I am blunt and opinionated. I think Mickey is the best option. I've said that at least 5-10 times. I've given my reasons, look them up and brush them off all you want, I don't give a dang. I've also said many times that if he doesn't get the job, I will still support whoever the AD hires. You need to work on you and YOUR own opinion of who should get hired. And not on mine or anybody else. Speak up and put it out there who you think/wish/believe should have 2-3 years to rebuild Nebraska from the ground up. Because I don't recall who you said is realistically the next Head Coach for the rebuild job. If you have, I must have missed it. Sorry. But I'd rather know who your guy is, then having to keep defending an opinion of mine.

  22. Seeing how equally inept most of this division is and has been for years makes me even angrier at the golden opportunity we pissed away under frosty and riley. Things about to change in 2 years with usc entering the mix. Unbelievable we werent in the mix for the west division every single year, inexcusable we havent been bowl bound with this s#!t division we find ourselves in

  29. LOL. I haven't moved any goalposts. You stated that the search could go into January. I said no chance of that happening. And I am still waiting for you to give a valid reason as to why the search will go into January. And yes, I do not believe you understand how college football coaching changes work when you say a coach "would insist on keeping it quiet" until they finish their bowl game.
    4 points
  30. Tell me you don't know how college football coaching changes work without telling me you don't know how college coaching changes work. I mean both Pelini and Frost were hired by NU and coached in January bowl games. I can't think of one coach that wanted "to keep it quiet" through a January bowl came. A coach would never "keep it quiet" due to losing weeks of recruiting to his new school.

  31. Every day I look at message boards, social media - every place possible - for news of Nebraska’s next head football coach. There is very little in the way of tangible evidence of who it will be. Regardless of whom is hired, Nebraska fans should prepare themselves for disappointment. The problem isn’t that there aren’t quality coaches available; the problem is the likelihood of it being “your guy” is very low. Add to that - by the time Trev Alberts makes this announcement, the subject of “Nebraska’s next head football coach” will have been beaten to death to the point we’ll be tired of it. AND we will have built a list of negativity about every potential candidate so that no one looks like they’d be a good hire.

  32. You were right with "signing day". Since 90% of the croots sign in December, it should be December = Signing Day February = Late Signing Day

  33. I see us at 2 wins and 1 loss in the last 3 games under Mickey. That's where we are today. That's a winning record. The rebuild has already started. You have seen numerous players play lately, who prior to MJ have not seen the field much (if any). Benhart played 7 snaps one game. Hartzog start 2 games. Phelan Sanford on the field playing a lot. Tommi Hill switched def to offense. Lutovsky and Anthony and Piper getting meaningful time. Rahmir Johnson played! Butler out there and a host of others. This staff under MJ is giving players a chance to go play ball. Unless you bring in Kiffin, UM or Leach then there will not be a shock to the system.

  37. There would have been a collective meltdown in Husker land if we did hire someone else. You know what though? We almost certainly would have ended up with better results and be in a better spot today had we hired basically anyone else besides the guy we all wanted. The universe, God, or whomever sure have a sense of humor.

  38. Exactly. And, that's why EU's energy prices have gone up way more than ours has. It's also why places like Hawaii and California, that got a lot of gas from Russia went up more than the rest of the country. But, the global market has affected ALL of the US also. But....Hey.....it's all Biden's fault is all we hear from Republicans.....which is idiocy based solely on politics.

  41. I feel for you. I'm in a similar situation. My parents were basically forced into assisted living because my mother's health was going down. My father couldn't help at all (refused to help) at home. So, they agreed to go. My father never has accepted that he's in assisted living because he needs help too. At one point, he got angry and moved himself home, (can't legally keep him there) which did not end well. Now, my mother has passed away. My father is bored out of his mind and wants to move out. His body is failing and he can't do anything for himself, but he doesn't realize that. The problem is, his mind still goes a hundred miles per hour and is constantly coming up with unrealistic ideas on what he wants to do...which causes a lot of work for everyone else around him. The assisted living where he is, is amazing in their help, but there's only so much they can do. Anyone who is honest with him, he gets angry with and can be mean. I'm the one that lives here, but my siblings are very supportive of everything I think needs done. That is huge. I know some families that do not have support from the siblings that don't live close. The siblings that live far away, don't realize the gravity of the situation and enable the parent. Luckily, I don't have that. In reality, all this would have been so much easier if he was the one that passed away first. My mother was very agreeable and went along with what we thought should be done. But, that's the opposite of my Dad. I know so many people now with parents in this situation. It sucks because it feels like you can't enjoy the short time we have left with them because we are constantly having to manage around their struggles. But, we try to be as loving as we can be. Message to any sibling that isn't living close to the parents to help. Please support the sibling that is. Understand that it's emotionally draining for them and they are doing the best they can.
