  1. I am not sure why there is angst on this hire. This guy is just going to be an analyst. He's not on the full-time staff. This enables Simpson to get his start in college coaching under his former coach. He will provide great contacts to the high school coaches in Florida, and can potentially back fill for Terrance Knighton if Knighton ever decides to leave NU to go back to the NFL or another job.

  2. HCMR hired a HS coach for a position at Baylor, and the guy is now the HC at Texas Tech. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joey_McGuire

  3. I think there is just some semantics in play going on here, based on the Tweet where we are getting this name. I could be wrong but this is my expectations on his role: 1) Basically a GA/Analyst and not one of the 10 main assistant coaches. He can assist Knighton during practices, but is limited on gamedays and other times during the week. Again, many high school coaches go from the high school ranks to a GA/Analyst role in college if they want to go beyond high school coaching. Plus, there are exceptions like Joey McGuire who went from high school in Texas, to Baylor, to now HC at Texas Tech. 2) Him being called a "recruiter" means that he will work with high school coaches in Florida to get word about guys who may be under the radar, or not heavily recruited by SEC and ACC schools in the South. This is just a guess here, but it's based on his high school coaching experience, and his contacts in the Florida area. For those who are not understanding this hire, maybe let's all just wait until the official hire and announcement comes from NU before we get our panties in a wad (not saying you are freaking out BRB).

  5. 2023 class is "this year's class". And....correction. Rhule is going to go out and get the best players he can. We are in on a number of highly rated players. The correction is that he is WILLING to go after a not so highly rated player that he thinks he can develop if he needs that player in a position of need. People act like Rhule is out there only looking at 0 star athletes and plans to build a championship team on recruits that nobody else wants. That's simply not the case.

  6. Not a big surprise, but it's now official. Mickey is done at NU.

  7. Arkansas hired a HS coach a few years ago to be there OC/WR coach. Gus Malzahn. He turned out to be great hire. Great coaches can be found at all levels of football.

  9. I'll be the first to ask why? The largest assistant pool possible and we get a HS football coach...Maybe strategic for the FL recruiting ties? I am honestly under whelmed. Possible I am completely missing something....Although Fisher did good moving from golf coach to receiver coach.

  10. Pretty sure at this point NeonDeion is just coming to Husker board and finding out who we have offered and then offering them! Bring it on.

  11. We were told all Deion Sanders mentions got quarantined in Other Sports because Deion Sanders had been hired by another school and wasn't part of the Nebraska conversation. At the same time, The Coaching Carousel continued in Husker Sports, filled with coaches not named Deion who also weren't part of the Nebraska conversation. If there's an honest explanation for that, I've yet to see it. And if we're being honest — like we are in the Woodshed -- it's because some of our more influential members just can't stand the guy and really hated a couple of his most ardent supporters. It is heartening to see the Deion-haters seeking the thread out to continue the lively conversation they claimed they were sick of.

  12. The level of revisionist history here hurts here sometimes. We weren't dealing with Delta or Omicron and their levels of virulence and contagiousness at that time. It wasn't considered airborne at that time The virus has mutated such that to say we knew what we were dealing with before these mutations arrived in the scene is really out there. Vaccines weren't developed yet. We weren't able to fully open up until they were unless, I guess if you think 3 or 4 million US death would have been cool. Treatments like paxlovid weren't available. Ventilators we're considered essential but turns out they may have caused more harm than good in some cases. Hand sanitizer was impossible to get because it was thought that spread by contact was a significant risk. We still have essentially no clue what's going on with Long Covid and how to treat or prevent it. Nobody talks about it but that's going to be a drain on our health care system for years or decades to come. And it doesn't just affect the old. Besides a good portion of the public still doesn't understand what it's dealing with as seen by the anti-vaxxer/anti-masker campaign and how many people regurgitate that as fact. How many times did we hear "it's just a cold", "eat Ivermectin", "hydroxychloroquine", "inject bleach", "shove a fluorescent tube up your a$$", "Fauci did it", or that Omicron was going to be the savior because it was going to be a milder way to usher in herd immunity? Remember herd immunity? Yeah, we knew what we were dealing with in May 2020

  13. Ummm No. once the country essentially knew what we were dealing with, mainly from European data, people could make informed decisions. State lockdowns and mandates were not needed.

  15. We've come full circle from aggrievement over right-wing accounts getting suspended, to "free" speech meaning those accounts should be reinstated, to now it's ok to suspend other accounts because that's just "getting even". Authoritarian playbook throughout history. Having said that, Elon can do whatever he wants with is company - people need to just stop using twitter. But Archy and other right-wingers are really telling on themselves supporting this.

  17. Because reporting news, usually by posting verifiable video clips, is the same as posting Covid disinformation, lies about election integrity, and antisemitic/racist threats. One violated the company's terms and conditions. The other violated a nebulous moving target of a man child's feels. But nobody here is surprised right-wingers can't see the difference. Or maybe they can. They just loath journalists more than their dreams of a fascist utopia.

  20. What is on my mind, today? OMG!!!!! I woke up and turned on the TV news to see what teams will be playing for a National Championship in women’s NCAA volleyball. My early morning groggy haze received stunning jolt of “Bizzaro World.” On the screen was none other than Trump with his big special announcement pitching images of his own line of Trump trading cards. He pitched himself as better than Lincoln and Washington with a picture of Trump, the super hero, selling for $99. And, the grifting has reached a new low. What is next? Mike Lindell, the pillow guy, selling matched sets of sheets/pillow cases of Donald, Melania, and Stormy Daniels all in bed together? I can guarantee within the next several weeks, someone will walk into Pawn Stars and offer Chum Lee a boxed set of the Trump trading cards. Sad part is, there will be people who will buy this insane idiocy. Wake the hell up, America.

  26. I don't know the NCAA rules. I have always assumed there's an entire network of former players, coaches, and influential friends of a college program that at the very least make phone calls and unofficial visits to sway a hot prospect.

  31. NO.....there's also nuances of when vaccines were available. Nuances of population density. Nuances of population density combined with infection rates. Nuances of healthcare system overload. Nuances of certain facilities which contain high risk populations. Nuances of industries that work with those high risk populations....and on and on and on.

  32. The important thing is that you followed us here. Obsessed about Deion Sanders much? Technically, Shox, this Deion Sanders thread was moved to Other Sports because Deion Sanders will not be coaching at Nebraska, and without Nebraska it's just Other Sports. Interestingly enough, the Coaching Carousel thread remains in the more popular Husker Football forum despite the fact that 100% of the conversation involves coaches, who like Sanders, will also not be coaching at Nebraska. The reason for this discrepancy is that the mere thought of Deion Sanders gets some folks panties in a bunch. You're the best, Admo. Merry Christmas.

  34. I agree that it is "underwhelming" at first glance and by titles held to this point. Many successful HS coaches begin by being assistant coach, and he will be an assistant to one of the assistants. My best guess is that Rhule is comfortable with him, and exactly what you said. With his success at the HS level in Florida, one would expect him to have pretty deep ties with other coaches in the State. I am a long time HS coach and it is amazing how coaches talk to one another about kids and colleges. I am not up to date or as invested as many of you people, but with the assistants, we now have the East coast covered, the states of Florida and Texas represented, along with the midwest. I do think there is some recruiting strategy at play here.

  38. I find it funny how right wingers seem to get all supportive of someone who sells them that “I’m not like those evil liberals that are destroying everything good in America”….only to find out they are the same or worse and the right wingers end up loving them even more because of it. It really makes the righties look like idiots over and over.
