  1. Because that's the rule the players union and owners agreed to, college players didn't agree to a roster limit Edit, also keep in mind most schools are already actively running rosters of 100+ based on walk-ons. The fear of a lawsuit is large and the NCAA doesn't want this to go to court and is actively looking at changing this/removing this rule to prevent another legal L

  2. I'm not saying the jury was wrong. I just think it's gross that some folks are making this guy to be some sort of "hero". He's a jerk that almost got himself in a boat load of trouble.

  3. Which part of "sex determination is an active area of research that should yield a more sophisticated understanding in years to come" troubles you so? The willingness to explore something we may not fully understand? The possibility of a more sophisticated understanding in the future? Scientific curiosity? Textbooks adapting as more information becomes available, as they always have? Left entirely to God, the animal kingdom is rife with curious inconsistencies involving biological sex. If Nicole and the folks sharing this post have a problem, bring it up with Him.

  4. Back to the running away topic, I think the context is important. It's hard to imagine not running away after having a gun drawn on you and being pushed to the ground and threatened multiple times THEN PEPPER SPRAYED IN THE FACE AS YOU ARE LYING ON THE GROUND AND OBEYING ORDERS, all because you were "driving recklessly" which there has been no evidence of yet. They were already being a$$h@!es and he felt his life was threatened and he was right. It can't possibly be the normal procedure for police to point their weapons at someone because they were driving recklessly, if he actually was doing that.

  6. My wife currently has a child in her unit that they had to retract the assignment of sex from the birth certificate. Different doctors from different specialties are actually meeting and cooperatively working together to determine what this baby "should be".... They are looking at biological structures such as what type of organs are present. They are looking at genes. They are looking at a lot more than if there is a "peepee" or not.

  7. There is a lot more to this story. I shared the details when this was brought up this past summer. This "victim" beat the crap out of an elderly volunteer.

  8. Scholarship s are not meaningless because of NIL. The key driver is there are only 11 spots on the field at one time. It doesn’t matter if you 85 or 102 scholarships, there’s still 11 spots on the field. Most people leave because they are 12th spot, not 86th.

  9. Except the DOJ didn't "egregiously overstepped" or get "slapped down". The case wasn't dismissed by the court but went to trial, the jury returned a not guilty verdict, which only means the DOJ lost the case.

  11. Meh, shameful is a pretty strong word. The family was invited to numerous functions and celebrations of their son's life through the Husker program. It wasn't like they were ignored.

  15. I know that's been talked about a lot, but has there been one example yet of a player worthy of a scholarship at any school taking NIL money instead? I don't think that's actually going to happen, they want the scholarship because the NIL money is less than the headlines say and walking on ain't cheap.

  16. This. Title IX is exactly why the scholarship limit will not be eliminated or raised.

  17. I get what JJ was saying about the Memphis case and just following directions, but man, I couldn’t imagine getting manhandled and eventually pummeled like that and still be able to follow any directions, much less multiple different directions from those s#!tty a$$ police officers. That poor kid had to have been in a fog of war type situation at some point. Shame on the police for not de-escalating when he wasn’t a danger and with multiple officers around to provide backup. Awful situation.

  18. I remember that the narrative around why the Republicans turned on Cheney was "messaging". Nary a peep when a Desantis advisor talks about executing Fauci. That about says it all.

  21. Back when nobody was debating this stuff, at least 15 years ago, we stumbled onto a PBS documentary on sex and gender, and I was shocked to learn the percentage of newborn babies who had "conflicted" or not clearly defined genitalia, at which point the OB/GYN surgically made the decision for them.

  22. That is true. Shameful may be a bit harsh. Disappointing perhaps is a better word.

  23. I've been looking for my post. But essentially he had an earlier case thrown out. The case against the 72 year old volunteer was the current trial. There is video of him shoving the man to the curb and causing injury. The FBI did not break into the house or point guns at family. The FBI arrested him because he was charged with a federal crime. His wife changed stories, etc. I'm sure the jury found a reason to find him not guilty of the charges. But it doesn't change the fact that I think the man is a schmuck.

  25. It all sounds great, but its not that feasible in practice to give kids a scholarship based on NIL. Tuition/housing + books + meals + football stipend has to be close to $60k/year. Then that would also be taxable, so now you're up to about $80k/year. Say you want to do this for 5 guys, so that is $400k. The money is finite. Wouldn't that $400k be better used to get 1-2 top players than to use on projects (numbers 86-90 on your roster)? Also, no kid is going to choose a NIL scholarship over a real scholarship. Real scholarships are guaranteed for 4 years per B1G rules. If you get hurt or don't want to play football anymore, a real scholarship can still let you go to school for free. Do you think if you get hurt and can't play anymore that there is still going to be a NIL scholarship for you?

  26. Yep. Those guys get a scholarship AND NIL dollars. And while we’re on the subject. I thought the players had to do a little something other than simply being on the team to get NIL dollars. Spokesperson, advertising, appearances…something. Maybe I’m wrong and I know it’s an extremely low hurdle but I don’t think they can receive money simply because they’re on the team. The other deals of tuition being paid look to be a reward for a track record of contributing, much like when we reward a walk-on with a schollie after 2-3 years. I think NIL could be used in place of that, so yeah it may help expand the 85 limit a bit but I’m very doubtful it will be used to effectively raise the number into the 105 range.

  27. So....I'm confused and really don't know anything about weight training for a sport like this. Are they supposed to be doing squats, cleans and snatches? Are they supposed to clean their snatch after they squat?
    2 points
  28. Right, but those are all guys who have already walked on. Nobody is recruiting 4-stars and stashing them as walk-ons with above-market NIL deals or anything. This can keep walk-ons from leaving, but how many of them would have been put on scholarship anyway - 2? 3?

  29. Dude just posted a tweet, with no commentary at all. Relax bro...hahaha With that said, if we can (and we should) offer this, we should offer up things like picking your age, sexuality, marriage to anyone/anything religion, prayer...you name it, we should offer up the chance for kids to discuss and take part in it. Learning and talking about 'it" is the key to better understanding.

  30. There were 2.5 billion people on Earth in 1950. There are 7.8 billion people on the Earth today. I realize the twist comes in our interpretation of "rate" but it's a big semantics stretch for me to call this "population collapse" or fret that it's anything but extremely necessary for the survival of the species.

  33. No but I remember a lot of people making fun of Bill Snyder for taking a lot of JUCO transfers, then it ended up working out pretty well for him. Either way it's a vastly different landscape now so what people made fun of before we had 24/7 free agency is irrelevant.

  34. The players wanted this free portal and NIL. it’s always been a business but now the players are businessmen as well. if we fans have to deal with guys like Hausman leaving for his opportunity, players need to deal with cuts and whatnot as well. They are now professionals, deal with it

  36. Except the jury didn't slap them down either. The jury cannot actually do that since they cannot produce an "innocent" verdict. The most that can happen is that that individual jurors can come out after the trial and state their opinions on the matter.

  41. And I get that but what happens to kids that once they hit the transfer portal and can't join a team bc of the scholarship limit then what?? What options do guys have other then dropping down to division 2 if teams are already at the maximum limit after spring?? Walking on to a team or dropping out of the sport all together??? Yes I know getting a scholarship is a privilege and not a right but sometimes its not the kids fault they didnt get the right development to help the team.
